1941- Part of the present TR was declared as “Venugopala Wildlife

Park” with an area of 90.00 Sq. Km. (As per Mysore Game and

Forest preservation & regulation Act 1931)

1942 - Extended to 800.00 Sq. Km amalgamating the adjoining

forests.

1973 - An extent of 683.52 Sq. Km was selected and declared as one

of the first “Project Tiger” area in India.

1974 - Declared as “National Park”, Declared as Part of “Nilgiri

Biosphere Reserve”

1991 -Declared as “Project Elephant” area as part of MER

1992 - Re-organized as Project Tiger Division by adding some more

additional forest area.

2001 - Final Notification as “National Park”.

2010 - Adjoining forest & non-forest areas have been added as

“Buffer area” vide No. FEE 136 FWL, 2008 dated 31-08-2010.

2011 – Final Notification of Eco-sensitive zone in October 2012.

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE BTR is among the 1st Tiger reserve of the Country. BTR is a part of the 5500 Sq. Km. Niligiri Biosphere Reserve. Part of Mysore Elephant Reserve. One of the high density Tiger landscape recognised by the

Global tiger protocol for conservation of tiger in their landscape.

Bandipur along with adjoining protected areas has the highest breeding population of Wild Tigers amongst the 13 Tiger Ranging Countries in the world.

The area has a very high faunal and floral diversity. One of the richest wildlife areas noted for the intact

assemblage of 7 large ungulate species and also, known for the highest prey species density.

along the Bandipur Tiger Reserve

The Forest Department in facing huge Man-Animal Conflict in

Bandipur Tiger Reserve. We have 225 Kms Length of Boundary with

village side to mitigate Man-Animal Conflict, especially Elephants

Coming out of National Park, he decided to erect the Barricade by

using the rails. to take up on a pilot project, we need 225 Kms X 60

Lakh/Km = Rs. 135.00 Core
