Art. 1 FINANCIAL AI D AND STUDY GRANTS
The benefits concerned by this call for applications are as follows:
study grants integrations to study grants for participation in international mobility
programmes integrations to study grants for graduates (‘degree awards’) beneficial-rate trust loans beneficial-rate accommodation service catering service for relevant students/study grant beneficiaries extraordinary grants
The above benefits are exempt from income tax, as envisaged by Circularno. 109/E dated 6th April 1995 issued by the Italian Finance Ministry.
Art. 2 TARGET BENEFIT BENEFICIARIES
The following may participate in the call for applications:
Italian citizens; citizens of European Union M ember States; citizens of States not belonging to the European Union (‘non-
EU students’)1;
who meet all the following criteria:
1. REGULARLY ENROLLED in programmes run by the Politecnicopursuant to Art. 3 below;
2. Meeting the ECONOMIC REQUIREMENTS pursuant to Art. 4below;
3. Meeting the MERIT REQUIREMENTS pursuant to Art. 7 below.

Students ENROLLED WITH A FOREIGN UNIVERSITY andadmitted to programmes run by the Politecnico under the scopeof international exchange agreements cannot participate.

In order to participate in this call for applications, students must beenrolled or express their wish to enrol for the academic year2010/2011:
in a regular year of a degree programme, five-year single-cycleprogramme, master of science programme;
in a further year, in addition to those envisaged by the teachingprogramme for the study course attended;
in two further years, in addition to those envisaged by theteaching programme, in the event of the following participating inthe call for applications:
1. handicapped students with disability class of at least 66%;2. students applying for extraordinary grants (see Chapter VII –
Special Part);
in three further years, in addition to those envisaged by theteaching programme, in the event of handicapped students w ithdisability class of at least 66% , applying for the assignment of beneficial-rate accommodation.
Students may also participate in the call for applications if enrolled, orintending to enrol:
in a specializing course; in a doctoral programme (if not beneficiaries of a study grant
pursuant to Italian Ministerial Decree no. 224/1999 or research
cheque pursuant to Italian Law no. 449 dated 27th December 1997); in individual courses for the purpose of acquiring curricula
supplements required for enrolment on master of science programme s as from the second semester ( please see that specified on this account in paragraph 5.2. - Special Part – Study Grants );
in master of science programme s as from the secondsemester.
Art. 3 PROGRAMMES FOR W HICH BENEFITS ARE GRANTED
Students may present applications EVEN PRIOR TO HAVING
FORMALISED ENROLMENT/REGISTRATION for the academicyear 2010/2011. THE ASSIGNMENT of benefits is, however,subject to COMPLETION OF ENROLMENT within the termsspecified by the academic calendar or call for applications foradmission to Doctoral P rogrammes and specializing courses.

Art. 4 ECONOMIC REQUIREMENTS
The student’s economic conditions are evaluated on the basis of theEquivalent Economic Situation Indicator (hereinafter also referred to as the “ ISEE ”) and the Equivalent Equity Situation Indicator (hereinafter also referred to as the “ ISPE ”).
The EQUIVALENT ECONOMIC SITUATION INDICATOR is adeclaration issued on the basis of the Single Substitute declaration (signedby a member of the nuclear family) showing a citizen’s social and economicstatus. This declaration is obtained by combining and assessing threedifferent elements: income, equity and the members of the nuclear family.The result obtained is an economic value expressed in current currency thatdetermines the right to access beneficial social services.
The EQUIVALENT EQUITY SITUATION INDICATOR is obtained bydividing the equity situation indicator (consisting of the sum of the value of real estate and other assets owned by all members of the nuclear family -hereinafter also referred to as the “ ISP ”) by the equivalence scalecoefficient corresponding to the members of the nuclear family.
In some cases, in order to apply for financial aid and study grants,reference may be made to the UNIVERSITY EQUIVALENT ECONOMIC
SITUATION INDICATOR (ISEEU) and to the UNIVERSITY EQUIVALENT EQUITY SITUATION INDICATOR (ISPEU). Theseindicators are the result of a recalculation of the ISE, ISEE and ISPE madeby adding the value of income received or equity owned abroad, andhalving the value of income and equity pertaining to the student’s brothersand sisters (see paragraphs 4.3 and 4.4 herein).
Regardless of scholastic merit, students whose ISEE/ISEEUexceeds 19,287.04 euros, or whose ISPE/ISPEU exceeds32,546.88 euros are excluded from the assignment of studybenefits.
Declarations relating to economic and equity situations mustrelate - at risk of exclusion from the call for applications - toincome received in 2009 and the value of assets and propertyowned as of 31st December 2009 .

Art. 4.1 Definition of "Nuclea r Family”
For the purpose of granting benefits, the student’s “nuclear family ” comprises the student him/herself and all thoseincluded as having the same address, as resulting from theofficial family residence certificate even if not blood-related.
In any case, the following are considered as part of the student’snuclear family2:
the student’s parents – not legally separated or divorced – and other children under their responsibility, even if notrecorded as having the same address on the official familyresidence certificate;
the parent receiving maintenance cheques for thestudent, in cases of divorce or separation;
any parties entrusted to the care of the student’sparents.
In preparing the ISEEU/ISPEU, the members of thestudent’s nuclear family w ill be considered as resulting onthe date on w hich the application is presented.
In the event of changes to the members of the nuclearfamily or changes to economic situations occurringsubsequent to the date on which the application ispresented, the student should present a newISEEU/ISPEU declaration to the Student Aid andInternational Mobility Office.
Art. 4.2 “Independent Student” Nuclear Family
A student constitutes his/her own nuclear family independent of
that of his/her family of origin where BOTH the following criteriaare met:
A. RESIDENCE – as recorded on the official family residencecertificate – different from that of the family of origin forat least two years. The student’s residence must not bein a property owned by a member of the original nuclearfamily;
B. acquisition – for at least two years - of OWN, TAX-DECLARED INCOME of at least 7,392 euros per

year3, deriving from subordinate or any other form of employment. For the purpose of this provision, theemployment must not be provided by a member of thestudent’s family.
In all cases where the student, despite not living with the originalfamily, does not meet the criteria of independence, reference ismade to the members and economic and equity conditions of theoriginal nuclear family (parents, brothers, sisters, etc.).
Should the official family residence certificate show thatthe independent student shares their residence withanother person, the income of both shall be considered,even if not blood-related.
Art. 4.3 Student w ith brothers and sisters earning income and/ or owning equity
In order to take due consideration of parties bearing the onus of maintaining the student, the income and/or equity of thestudent’s brothers and sisters who are considered part of thenuclear family shall go towards forming all indicators of theeconomic conditions pursuant to this Article. They shall beconsidered at a rate of 50%.
Art. 4.4 Student w ith nuclear family w ith income and/ or equity produced abroad
ISEE abroad is calculated as the sum of income perceived abroadand 20% of the equity owned abroad and not already included incalculating the ISEE. These shall be assessed in the same waysand according to the average euro exchange rate for the year of reference, defined by decree issued by the Ministry of Finance.ISPE is calculated also considering property located abroad,owned as of 31st December 2009. This is assessed, only in the
case of buildings, according to the conventional value of 500euros per square metre. Other assets are assessed according tothe average euro exchange rate for the year of reference.

The Student Aid and International Mobility Office will not accept
any documents required to complete the ISEEU/ISPEU. Thesemust therefore be delivered personally by the student – or by arepresentative of the student - only to the CAAFs stated above.
To obtain completion of the ISEEU/ISPEU Declaration, foreign studentsmust present the following original documents to CAAFs withspecific agreements in place w ith the University:
members of the nuclear family; income produced abroad in 2009; value of real estate and other assets owned by the nuclear family as
of 31st December 2009.
These documents must be4:
issued by the competent authorities of the State in which theincome was produced;
legalised by the Italian diplomatic or consular representationsabroad.
A translation into Italian of the above documents drawn up in therelevant foreign language must be attached and certified as compliant tothe original foreign text by the competent diplomatic or consularrepresentation or by an official translator.
Should the foreign student experience difficulty in obtaining all itemsneeded by the Italian diplomatic authorities based in his/her country of origin, the student may contact foreign consular or diplomaticrepresentations resident in Italy. In this case, the documents must belegalised by the Prefecture.
Foreign students are, in any case, obliged to declare any income andassets as may be held in Italy by his/her nuclear family5.

Art. 6.1 Foreign students from particularly poor countries
For foreign students from the Particularly poor countrieslisted in Attachment A , the assessment of the economiccondition may be certified by the Italian Representation in thecountry of origin, which must certify that the student does notbelong to a notoriously high-income, high-social statusfamily.
This certificate may also be issued by the University of thecountry of origin, where linked by agreements or conventionswith the Politecnico di Milano. Alternatively, it may be issued by
Italian Bodies qualified to provide a guarantee of economiccoverage7. In this case, the Body issuing said certificationassumes the guarantee of repaying the study grant and all otheramounts received by the student should such benefits berevoked.
Art. 6.2 Stateless studen ts or political refugees
Stateless students or political refugees must attach the officialstatement certifying his/ her stateless situation or status
as political refugee as issued by the Italian Home Ministry orOffice of the United Nations High Commissioner – ItalyDepartment, to their application.
For the purpose of evaluating the economic situation of thesestudents, only income received and any equity held in Italy as of 31st December 2009 shall be considered.
Art. 7 MERIT REQUIREMENTS

In any case, the income declared by foreign students may be no less than4,206.84 euros, which is the minimum support means that must beproven when applying for a visa to enter Italy for study purposes6.
This amount constitutes the minimum threshold for the purpose of evaluating economic requirements.

With regards to students enrolled in bachelor of science degreeprogrammes, five-year single-cycle programmes, master of scienceprogrammes, the term MERIT REQUIREMENT refers to the number of training credits (hereinafter also referred to as “CFU ”s) that the
student has to attain in order to be assigned/retain the benefitsrequested.
The number of credits required is calculated with reference tothe year of first REGISTRATION, i.e. with reference to the first year inwhich the student enrolled with any university, whether in Italy or
abroad .
This rule therefore applies in all cases where a student changesfaculty, degree programme and/or university.
For students enrolled on specializing courses and DoctoralProgrammes, the merit requirements are met with admission tocourses in accordance with the methods envisaged by the respectiveteaching orders.
Art. 7.1 Merit requirements for students enrolled on degree programmes, five-year single-cycle programmes,master of science programmes
First years
These students need merely show that they meet therelevant economic requirements. MERIT REQUIREMENTSWILL BE ASSESSED AT THE TIME OF PAYMENT OF THESECOND INSTALMENT OF THE STUDY GRANT.
More specifically, the second instalment of the grant will only be paidupon attaining, by 10 th August 2011:
at least 20 credits for those enrolled on locally-programmed courses;
at least 25 credits for those enrolled on nationally-programmed courses.
Any student attaining the above number of credits subsequent to10th August 2011, but by 30th November 2011, despite NOT
having the right to the assignment of the second instalment of thegrant, may, however, retain the first instalment of the grant.

The benefit will instead be REVOKED should the studentfail to attain the credits required for the assignment of thesecond instalment of the grant by 30 th November 2011.
Should the grant be revoked, not only will the second instalment of the study grant not be paid, but the student must also return allamounts he/she has received up until that point, including themonetary value of any services used (e.g. catering andaccommodation services).
The provisions concerning the revocation of benefits and minimummerit limits to which payment of the second instalment is subjecteddo not apply to handicapped students with disabilities recorded as atleast 66%.
Years subsequent to the first
For the purpose of assigning/retaining benefits, any studentenrolling for years subsequent to the first in bachelor of sciencedegree programmes, five-year single-cycle programmes or masterof science programmes must attain the number of training creditsspecified in the tables below no later than 10 th August 2010.

Nationally-programmed programmes for students enrolled prior to academic year 2007/ 2008
Students enrolling for the first year of a master of science programme as from the second semester for whom the Study Plan envisages – forthat same semester – a maximum number of CFUs that is LOWER thanthe number of credits required by the call for applications in order
to attain the assignment of benefits for the second year (30 CFUs) need merely have attained a number of credits corresponding to the (lower)quantity envisaged by the Study Plan by 10th August 2010.
Art. 7.2 Changing programme or School
Considering the year of first registration, any studentsenrolled in the first year of courses run by thePolitecnico follow ing a change of School or programme,will be considered as enrolled in years subsequent to
the first.
In this case, the number of CFUs recognised by therelevant Study Programme Board by the date of payment of the second instalment of the study grantwill be considered.
Art. 7.3 Mer it requirements for handicapped students
Handicapped students with disability levels of at least 66% may
be assigned individual merit requirements according to the typeof handicap. These may differ up to 40% from those specifiedabove. Merit requirements will be established by a specific

commission who shall consult with the teacher appointed to theintegration of handicapped students.
Art. 8 BONUSES
Students enrolled in the second and third year of bachelor of sciencedegree programmes and five-year single-cycle programmes mayuse a credit ‘bonus’ to allow them to overcome any differences between theminimum number of training credits required by the call for applications andthe credits effectively attained.
The value of the ‘bonus’ differs according to the year of enrolment in whichthe student decides to use it. More specifically:
5 credits, if used for the first time to attain benefits for the secondacademic year;
12 credits, if used for the first time to attain benefits for the thirdacademic year;
15 credits, if used for the first time to attain benefits forsubsequent academic years.
Art. 8.1 How to use bonuses
Bonuses only mature during the bachelor of sciencedegree programmes and single-cycle specialised degreeprogramme (up until the third year) . They can be used asfollows:
bonus credits are added to the credits effectivelyattained by the student, exclusively for the purpose of attaining the minimum merit requirement
established by the call for applications; if the student should recourse to just part of the bonus,
he/she may only use the residual, unused portion insubsequent academic years;
students enrolled in years subsequent to the first of master of science programmes may only use the portionof the bonus matured and unused during the bachelor of science degree programme;
students enrolled in years subsequent to the third of five-year single-cycle programmes may only use the
portion of the bonus matured and unused by the thirdyear of the bachelor of science degree programme;

continuing studies, withdrawal of enrolment, change to student’s civil oreconomic status, etc.).
11.1 Presentation of the application in the event of
transfer to another university
Should, following the start of the academic year, the studentdecide to move to a different university, the application will beautomatically sent to the competent body for Financial Aid of theuniversity to which the student has presented a transferapplication. From the time notice is given of the transfer, thestudent shall forfeit their rights to use any benefits as may havebeen recognised by the Politecnico di Milano. The student shall beobliged to return all amounts received thus far.
Any student who, after the start of the academic year, shouldchoose to transfer to the Politecnico di Milano from anotheruniversity must request that the Body for Financial Aid of theUniversity of origin transmit the application, as long as it ispresented within the terms established for the call for applicationsof the University of origin. The transfer must have been dulycompleted prior to the publication of the definitive honours list.
Art. 12 NON-ADMISSION TO THE CALL FOR APP LICATIONS
Any students meeting the following criteria may not participate in the callfor applications for the academic year 2010/2011:
A. those in possession of a QUALIFICATION – attained either in Italy9 or abroad – OF AN EQUAL OR HIGHER LEVEL to the study coursefor which the benefits are requested;
B. those who are BENEFICIARIES OF OTHER FORMS OFECONOMIC AID supplied by the Politecnico or other public orprivate Bodies, or other grants supplied by the University10 or by theMinistry for Foreign Affairs. Any students assigned free places in
colleges, residences or boarding schools not managed by thePolitecnico di Milano are also excluded from the honours lists. Shouldthe benefits be partial, benefits will be assigned proportionally. Inthese cases, the student can choose to benefit from one or theother.

Art. 1 NUMBER OF STUDY GRANTS

DISTANT STUDENT : resident in a different place from that where the studyprogrammes attended are based, and who, for that reason, must pay foraccommodation near the place of study for a period of at least 10 months,using either public residential structures or private lodgings or those
belonging to other bodies.
In order to prove his/her status as ‘distant student ’, the student mustpresent the Student Aid and International Mobility Office with either of thefollowing no later than 15 th October 2010:
copy of the duly registered rental agreement made out in thestudent’s name or in the name of one of his/her parents;
certificate or other tax-valid document in relation to payment of rentin the case of students domiciled at public or private structures.
Should, in previous academic years, the student have already produced therental agreement or tax certificate, and no changes have been made tothe situation that has already been certified, he/she may simplyreconfirm the data by self-certification , attaching merely a copy of the rental agreement registration certificate to the application. The
Politecnico reserves the right to make all due checks.
For the purpose of determining the value of the study grant, foreignstudents will, in any case, be considered as ‘distant’ , regardless of their place of residence in Italy. This is with the exception of cases wherethe student’s nuclear family resides in Italy.
The value of the study grants, inclusive of reimbursement of regional taxeson financial aid and study grants, is defined as follows:

Art. 4.1 Value of study g rants for handicapped students
Should the beneficiary belong to the category of mutilated andcivil disabled parties pursuant to Art. 2 of Italian Law no. 118
dated 30th March 197111
, or to other categories of the disabledprotected by the law, with disabilities recognised as at least 66%,the annual value of the study grant may be raised up to amaximum of:
2,580 euros for local students 3,672 euros for commuting students 6,528 euros for distant students
N.B. These amounts may vary following subsequent
decisions taken by the Lombardy Regional Authorities. Any changes w ill be duly and suitably publicised.
Additionally, at the same time as presenting their application, theparty concerned may also request conversion of the grant into:specialist equipment and differentiated teaching materials,accommodation, assignment of a companion or assistant withstudies or interpreter or, in any case, any other tool as may provesuitable to overcoming specific individual difficulties.
Art. 5 PROCEDURES FOR PREPARING THE HONOURS LISTS
Honours lists of suitability are separate for:
Students enrolled in the first year of bachelor of science degreeprogrammes and five-year single-cycle programme;
Students enrolled in the first year of master of science degreeprogramme;
Students enrolled in years subsequent to the first of all degreeprogramme;
Students enrolled in the first year of specializing courses and doctoral
programme; Students enrolled in years subsequent to the first of specializing
courses and doctoral programme.

Art. 5.1 Criteria for preparing the honours lists
The honours list will be drawn up according to the following criteria:
A) Students enrolled in the first year of all study programmes
Students applying for study grants are assigned points inrelation to their economic situation, calculated according tothe formula below:

Where points are equal, the marks in relation toqualifications shall prevail and, subsequently, precedence shall
be given to the younger student.
B) Student s enrolled in years subsequent to the first of all study programmes
Students enrolled in years subsequent to the first are assignedpoints in relation to academic merit. 1,000 points can be assignedas follows:

In the event of continued equality, the student enrolledat the highest course year shall prevail, followed bythe youngest student.
Handicapped students with disabilities of at least 66%, if included in the suitability honours list, have the right to

assignment of study grants, even if in excess of thenumber of study grants available.
Art. 5.2 Inclusion in the suitability honours list with
reservation
The following are l isted in the suitability honours list ‘w ithreservation’ : students who, for the academic year 2010/2011:
intend to enrol in the first year of a master of science degree programme as from the second semester,including students enrolled on study programmesas extra for the acquisition of curricula integrat ions;
are admitted to bachelor of science degree programmes,five-year single cycle programme with AdditionalTraining Obligations (hereinafter also referred to as “OFA”s ), which prevent them from sustaining examinationsregularly.
In the first case, the reservation will be lifted at the timeenrolment is completed. In the second case, the 'reservation' willbe lifted by June 2011, once it has been checked that thestudents have, by that date, passed all tests in relation to theOFAs and, consequently, are able to take the first yearexaminations.
Art. 6 PUBLICATION OF HONOURS LISTS AND AP PEALS
For all students enrolled on all degree programmes, temporary honourslists will be published at www.polimi.it/borse by 6th October 2010 .
For all students enrolled on doctoral programmes, temporary honourslists will be published at www.polimi.it/borse by 15th November 2010.
Any appeals must be presented to the Student Aid And International Mobility Office no later than
18th October 2010 for students enrolled on all degreeprogrammes;
29th November 2010 for students enrolled on doctoralprogrammes.
In all the above cases, the student shall have the right topayment of the study grant – once the reservation hasbeen lifted – but only where funds supplied by the LombardyRegional Authorities are available.

Art. 8 PAYMENT TERMS
Payment of the study grant will be made as follows:
A) Students enrolled in the first year of degrees programmes, five- years single-cycle programme and master of science programmes as from the first semester
The study grant will be paid in two instalments as follows:
the first instalment will be paid by 16 th November 2010; the second instalment will be paid as follows:
a) by 29th April 2011 for students who during the firstexamination session (February-March 2010) attain the numberof training credits required by this call for applications forpayment of the second instalment;
b) by 31st October 2011 for students who attain the numberof training credits required for payment of the secondinstalment by 10th August 2010.
B) Students enrolled in years subsequent to the first of all study programmes
The study grant will be paid in two instalments as follows:
the first instalment of the study grant will be paid by 16 th November 2010;
the second instalment of the study grant will be paid by 30 th June2011;
C) Students enrolled in doctoral programmes and specializing programmes
The study grant will be paid to successful applicants in a lump sum by 1st March 2011.

Art. 9 PAYM ENT METHODS
Successful applicants will receive payment for the study grant in one of thefollowing ways:
credited to a bank current account for those who have supplied theStudent Aid and International Mobility Office with bank details;
any other methods as may be identified by the Politecnico.
Should the student not have a current account, the study grant will be paidby sending a non-transferrable cheque made out to the student, to theaddress stated on the application.
Art. 10 FORFEITURE OF THE RIGHT
Should the student fail to collect the study grants assigned by 31st December 2011, the student forfeits his/her right to collect the cash
amount, but retains the benefits deriving from the fact of being thebeneficiary of a study grant (e.g. catering service).
ART. 11 STUDENTS ENROLLED ON THE FIRST YEAR OF MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAMMES AS FROM THE SECOND SEMESTER
Students wishing to enrol on master of science degree programmes as fromthe second semester can apply for the assignment of the financial aid andstudy grants.
Art. 11.1 Terms for presenting the application and honours lists
The terms for presenting the application expire on 1stSeptember 2010.
Given that assignment of benefits is subject to completion of enrolment within the terms specified on the academiccalendar, these students shall be included on thesuitability honours lists ‘with reservation’ .
The reservation will be lifted as enrolment is completed.
The current account must be held or jointly held in thestudent's name. If this is not the case, the amount maynot be credited.

Art. 11.2 Meri t requirements for students enrolling in the first year of master of science programmes as from the second semester
Students enrolling on the first year of master of science programme s as from the second semestermust MEET THE SAME MERIT REQUIREMENTS asprescribed for students enrolling on the first years of master of science programme s as from the firstsemester.
As such, they must attain:
a. 20 CFUs by 10th August 2011 to obtain the
second instalment of the study grant for thefirst year;
b. 30 CFUs by 10th August 2011 to obtain, if applicable, the study grant for the second year(A/Y 2011/2012).
Additionally, all other rules with regards to the meritrequirements pursuant to Art. 7 – General Part – also apply,including those in relation to the revocation of the benefitand use of the bonus (Art. 8 – General Part).
More specifically, for the purpose of assessing meritrequirements, training credits are also considered whenattained by students enrolling in study programmes asextra in order to acquire the curricula integrationsnecessary to admission to master of science
programme s as from the second semester.
Students enrolling for the first year of a master of science programme as from the second semester forwhom the Study Plan envisages – for that same semester –a maximum number of CFUs that is LOWER than thenumber of credits required by the call forapplications in order to attain the assignment of benefits for the second year (30 CFUs) need merelyhave attained a number of credits corresponding to the(lower) quantity envisaged by the Study Plan by 10th August2010.

Art. 11.3 Payment terms
The study grant will be paid to successful applicants in twoinstalments as follows:
a) the first instalment will be paid by 30 th June 2011;

MOBILITY CONTRIBUTIONS
Art. 1 ADDRESSEES
Students awarded study grants for the academic year 2010/2011 andsuitable students not awarded study grants (including studentsenrolled on doctoral programmes) can benefit from an integration of thegrant for participation in international mobility programmes.
These rights are extended to graduate students participating in foreignstages as long as they graduated no more than one year ago and werefound to be suitable to the award of a study grant for the last year of studies.
Contributions for participation in international mobilityprogrammes and internships are only granted once for each studycourse attended.
Art. 2 NUM BER OF INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY CONTRIBUTIONS

The degree award is a 1000 euro supplement in addition to the last

For the purpose of assigning this benefit, the following conditions must bemet:
the student must have graduated within the normal studycourse duration, running from the year of first registration;
in the event of achieving a first level degree, the student mustdeclare, in writing, that he/she does not intend enrollingin any master of science programme;
the student must have benefitted from a study grant for thatacademic year.
The integration may only be granted once for the entire study course.
The application must be presented within 30 days of graduation.

The assignment of beneficial-rate accommodation is allocated to studentsenrolled in the first year of all study programmes run by the Politecnico12 as follows:
67% for students from EU countries; 33% for students from non-EU countries.
The student will be considered as having RENOUNCED where he/she failsto take possession of the accommodation within 3 days of being notifiedas to its assignment. In this case, the accommodation will automatically beassigned to the next student on the honours list.
Accommodation is assigned – considering places available – on the basis of the student’s preference and according to scholastic merit and theplace of study attended.
Any students who, whilst awaiting to graduate in the Bachelor of Science in September, should request accommodation as student enrolledin the first year of master of science programme s in September - whilstawaiting completion of enrolment in the master of science programme - canuse, upon payment, accommodation chosen by the Housing ServicesDepartment. The following tariff is applied:
250 euros for the whole month of September or a period in excess of 15 days;
130 euros for periods of less than 15 days.
This amount cannot be reimbursed.
The opportunity to use temporary accommodation in September 2010 alsoapplies to suitable students who have not been assigned accommodation. Inthese cases, accommodation is only guaranteed at the Newton Residence.
The Politecnico di M ilano residences will be closed from 30 th Julyto 31st August 2011.
Guest students must leave the accommodation assigned them freeby 10 .00 a.m. on 29 th July 2011.
The Politecnico di Milano undertakes to provide suitable space in which theymay store their personal effects.

and who should request such. In this case, the cost of the service will bepaid by the student so requiring.
Art. 10 COST OF ACCOMMODATION
Students benefitting from study grants
Students benefitting from study grants will have the amount of 2,200euros withheld from the grant as a forfeit amount equating to the value of the accommodation from the date on which it is assigned (pursuant to theprevious paragraph) until 29th July 2011.
Students benefitting from six -monthly study grants
Students benefitting from six-monthly study grants may use theaccommodation assigned them until 29th July 2011. As from 16th February2011, they will pay the beneficial rate, whose monthly value amounts to1/11 the amount of the forfeit share withheld from the study grant and, inany case, no less than 200 euros a month.
‘Suitable’ students not benefitting from study grants
Students meeting the requirements for the assignment of beneficial-rateaccommodation who do not benefit from a study grant shall pay a monthlyamount of 1/11 the amount of the forfeit share withheld from the studygrant and, in any case, no less than 200 euros a month.
International mobility students
Students attending courses run by the Politecnico under the scope of international exchange projects have the option of using beneficial-rateaccommodation at the University’s residential structures upon payment of
330 euros per month for a bed in a double room, and 400 euros a monthfor a bed in a single room. As concerns the Newton residence, on theother hand, this costs 250 euros a month.
Withholdings will be decreased proportionall y where the student usesthe accommodation for fewer months due to the following:
participation in international mobility programmes; assignment of accommodation on a date subsequent to those
specified above; exceptional, unforeseeable circumstances that are beyond the
student’s control and duly proven.
The balance will be made with payment of the second instalment of thegrant.

Art. 11 OBLIGATIONS OF STUDENTS ADMITTED TO COLLEGES
Students assigned a place in accommodation must:
pay the Politecnico di Milano an amount of 350 euros as a deposit;
sign, as acceptance, the regulations concerning the Politecnico diMilano residences.
Students may not have any guests in their rooms who have not been
specifically authorised by the Politecnico di Milano (as specified in theregulations).
Breach of this w ill entail the student’s losing their right to use theaccommodation and being ordered to leave the residence. A statement will be issued to the local police authorities and theacademic authorities will be informed. This is without prejudice toany action as may be taken by the Politecnico to obtain fullreimbursement of any damages suffered.
Art. 12 FORFEITURE OF THE RIGHT
Students assigned accommodation shall forfeit their benefits in thefollowing situations:
transfer to another university;
renunciation of studies;
application of disciplinary sanctions envisaged by the Regulations of the Politecnico di Milano Residences;
failure to make payment of the monthly fees for three consecutivemonths;
attainment of a degree and failure to enrol in a higher level studycourse. In this case, the student must definitively leave theaccommodation within 7 days of graduation. Where places areavailable, students providing a justified request to use theaccommodation may do so paying full rates until 29th July 2011.

CHAPTER VI
BENEFICIAL-RATE CATERING SERVICE
Art. 1 ADDRESSEES
All students ASSIGNED STUDY GRANTS and all SUITABLE STUDENTSNOT ASSIGNED study grants for the academic year 2010/2011 shall have
the right to use the catering service in accordance with the terms specifiedby Art. 3 below.
In accordance with Art. 9, subsection 5 of Italian Prime Ministerial Decreedated 9th April 2001, these students will have an amount of 650 euros withheld from their study grants.
In the event of failure to use the catering service, the student shallhave no right to reimbursement. This is w ithout prejudice to anystudy periods spent abroad and duly documented .
Art. 2 SERVICE DURATION
For all students enrolled in the first years of bachelor of sciencedegree programmes, the catering service will be functioning from 16 th November 2010 to 15 th November 2011.
For all students enrolled in subsequent years of all degreeprogrammes, the catering service will be functioning from 1st
December 2010 to 30th November 2011 . For students enrolled in doctoral programmes, the catering servicewill be functioning from 1st January 2011 to 31st December 2011.
The catering service will be suspended for the entire month of August 2010 .

Art. 5 DELIVERY OF THE ELECTRONI C CARD
The Electronic Card will be delivered to those with the relevant right bythe competen t offices of each University base.
Art. 5 USE OF THE ELECTRONIC CARD
The Electronic Card is strictly personal. It may not be transferred to thirdparties nor converted into cash.
Return
The Electronic Card must be returned to the Student Aid and InternationalMobility Office, intact and functioning, no later than 30 dayssubsequent to its expiry. This is without prejudice to where the studenthas matured the right to benefit from the catering service for a furtheracademic year.
Students must also return Electronic Cards in the event of:
renunciation of studies;
transfer to another university base;
in all other cases of forfeiting the right to benefit from the studygrant.
The Card must be returned within 30 days of the onset of theevent above.
Loss - Theft
In the event of loss or theft of the Electronic Card, the student mustimmediately present a signed, written declaration to this effect to theStudent Aid and International Mobility Office by fax (+39 02.23994468) or
e-mail ([email protected]), or in person by visiting the competentoffices during helpdesk opening hours.
All meals consumed between the date of loss or theft and the dateon which this is notified will be charged to the Electronic Cardholder.

‘Improper’ use of the Electronic Card
In the event of ‘improper’ use of the Electronic Card, the defaulter will becharged sanctions proportional to the severity of the infraction committed,in addition to being charged for all irregular meals consumed.
By way of example, but not intended as a complete list, the following casesconstitute ’improper use’ of the Electronic Card:
possession and/or use of more than one Electronic Card;
transfer of one's own Electronic Card to a third party;
failure to return the Electronic Card within the terms envisaged bythe above provisions and/or use subsequent to expiry;
refusal to show or deliver the Electronic Card and/or an identitydocument to University functionaries or specifically-appointed to staff
or caterers so requesting;
failure to inform the Student Aid and International Mobility Office of the theft or loss of an Electronic Card.
Art. 6 CATERING SERVICE FOR ALL OTHER STUDENTS
All other students (enrolled in the Politecnico and not assigned study grants,International Mobility students, students enrolled on individual courses, etc.,etc.) shall have the right to use the catering service at the limited prices atthe establishments situated within the various University bases.

CHAPTER VII
EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTIONS
Art. 1 GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR P ARTICIPATION
Extraordinary contributions are benefits intended to allow the student toovercome ‘temporary and exceptional needs ’ without prejudice to theeconomic requirements specified in Art. 4 – General Part – of this call for
applications.
The student’s academic merit will be assessed at the discretion of theoffice competent for preparing the honours lists and is, in any case,released from the criteria pursuant to Art. 7 – General Part - of this call forapplications.
Students who, in the academic year 2010/2011, BENEFIT FROM OTHER FORMS OF ECONOMIC AID, including students ASSIGNED STUDY GRANTS cannot participate in the call for applications for the assignment
of extraordinary contributions.
Art. 2 NUM BER OF EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTIONS The Politecnico makes a minimum number of 30 extraordinary
contributions available of varying values, according to student type:

Extraordinary contributions may be granted to students findingthemselves in a situation of ‘temporary and exceptional need ’ determinedby events that have affected the student him/herself and/or his/her familymembers, and which have affected the regular continuation or completion
of study cycles. By way of example, and not intended as a complete list,significant events for the purpose of assigning the extraordinarycontribution include:
incidents of any nature, surgical operations, expensiverehabilitation treatments, death of the main income provider of thestudent’s nuclear family;
diseases affecting the student or his/her family members; other serious economic or family situations (unemployment,
temporary layoff funds, mobility, bankruptcy, etc.).
Any events occurring during the two years prior to the academic year2010/2011 shall be considered as worthy of particular attention. Otherapplications will be assessed according to total allocations destined toextraordinary contributions.
Art. 4 TERMS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE APP LICATION
The terms for presenting the application expire on 31st March 2011.
Within these same terms, the student must present all documents
proving the events for which the extraordinary contribution isrequested to the helpdesks for the Financial Aid and International Mobility.
Where produced by foreign students, this documentation must belegalised by the Italian diplomatic or consular representations abroad. Atranslation into Italian of the above documents drawn up in therelevant foreign language must be attached and certified as compliant tothe original foreign text by the competent diplomatic or consularrepresentation or by an official translator.
Art. 5 OUTCOME OF THE CALL FOR APP LICATIONS
Successful applicants will be notified by 29th April 2011 by e-mail sentto the institutional address assigned by the Politecnico([email protected] ) or by telephone to the number specifiedby the student on the application.
