Bangladesh ECD Network:Bangladesh ECD Network: An IntroductionAn Introduction

Bangladesh ECD Network (BEN) is a forum of governmental, non-governmental, academic and research organizations, United Nations agencies and development partners working in Early Childhood Development in Bangladesh.

Inception of the NetworkInception of the Network

• An initiative was taken in 2002 to form a Network of ECD stakeholders in Bangladesh with the support of UNICEF-Dhaka and Bangladesh Shishu Academy (the national academy for children)

• Fifteen other developing organizations were active partners of this initiative

• They identified ECD stakeholders over the country through a survey

Goal of the NetworkGoal of the Network

To encourage and support the governmental, non-governmental, national and international organisations and partners and other relevant actors in their commitment to and investment in ECD in Bangladesh.

Key Objectives of the NetworkKey Objectives of the Network

• To advocate for ECD with policymakers and stakeholders

• To promote public awareness• To strengthen ECD capacity in Bangladesh• Support the establishment of a solid knowledge base

and organisational culture on ECD• Sharing information & assist ECD stakeholders to

gain access to new information and knowledge on ECD; and

• Develop generic guidelines

Executive Committee of the NetworkExecutive Committee of the Network

Consists of the Chairperson , the Vice Chairperson, the Member Secretary, and Committee Members - elected bi-annually to serve for a period of 2 years.

The SecretariatThe Secretariat

A secretariat has been established to support the network in general under supervision of the Executive Committee. In order to ensure the sustainability and continuity of the secretariat, the ECD Network secretariat has been located at Early Childhood Development Resource Centre (ECDRC) in the Institute of Educational Development, BRAC University.

Operational Framework for Pre-Primary Education

BEN had a significant role in formulating the policy and operational framework for pre-primary education which was approved by MoPME in March 2008.

GO-NGO Collaboration Guideline

BEN has drafted a GO-NGO Collaboration Guideline based on the Operational Framework for Pre-primary Education and shared it with Secretary MOPME

Comprehensive ECCD Policy Framework

BEN has actively supported the drafting of a comprehensive ECCD policy document under MOWCA. The document is now placed in BEN website for collecting feedbacks from ECD stakeholders.

ELDS (Early Learning Development Standards) Document
