    Introduction: Introduction:- - y Bank of India was founded on 7th September, 1906 by a

    group of eminent businessmen from Mumbai. The Bankwas under private ownership and control till July 1969 .

    y In business volume, the Bank occupies a premier position

    among the nationalised banks.y BoI is a founder member of SWIFT(Society for Worldwide

    Inter Bank Financial Telecommunications), whichfacilitates provision of cost-effective financial processing

    and communication services.

    y Bank of India was founded on 7th September under Act VI of 1882, with an authorized capital of Rs. 1 crore divided into100,000 shares each of Rs. 100. The promoters placed55,000 shares privately, and issued 45,000 to the public byway of IPO on 3 October 1906; the bank commencedoperations on 1 November 1906.

    y In 1921 Bank of India entered into an agreement

    with the Bombay Stock Exchange to manage itsclearing house.y The Bank of India was nationalised in 1969 along with 13

    other banks . It is India's 4th largest bank, after SBI, PNB andCentral Bank of India.

    y Beginning with one office in Mumbai, with a paid-upcapital of Rs.50 lac and 50 employees, the Bank has

    made a rapid growth over the years and blossomedinto a mighty institution with a strong nationalpresence and sizable international operations.

    y It has 3216 branches, including 27 branches outsideIndia & 48 zonal branches.

    y The Bank completed its first one hundred years of operations on 7 September 2006. BOI came out with anIPO in 1997.

    y The Bank of India has initiated manyservices to meet the worldwide needsof its clients and leverage its domesticbanking strengths. The bank has aglobal presence through its branchesin London, Tokyo, New York, Paris,Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.

    y BOI has a network of approximately 24branches abroad (which also includesfour representative offices). It became

    the first nationalised bank of India toestablish a presence in London byopening a branch in 1946.

    y It was also the first Indian bank to open a branch in continentalEurope (Paris) in 1974. Its international business revenuescontribute approximately 16 per cent to the banks totalrevenues.

    y In June 1997, the bank established the India Desk to cater exclusively to NRIs and India related business.

    y BOI also plans to enhance its services to Indian companiesthat are investing in the UK. It has plans to assist them ingenerating corporate and project finance for their investments abroad. It plans to increase its focus on other diversified services, apart from banking services such asventure capital, merchant banking, etc.

    y The bank also hopes to leverage IT technology anddevelop quality products and services for increasing itsreach and gaining competitive advantage.

    y BOI has plans to open a branch in Antwerp(Belgium) to cater to the requirements of diamond merchants, traders and in this segmentBOI is market leader in India.
