An AntitypeAn Antitype

A type is an imprint, pattern or

shadow cast.

The antitype is the real thing,

the reality, the full embodiment.

Typology

Heb 8:5 - Make the Tabernacle “according to the pattern (tupos) that was showed thee in the mount.”

The Pattern was not the real Tabernacle.

Rom. 5:14, Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is a figure (tupos) of Him that was to come.

“Him that was to come”is the anti-type

to Adam’s type. Jesus is the Real Thing.

1 Pet. 3:20, … In the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 There is also an antitype which now saves us -- baptism… (NKJV)

What is the Type?Is it the Ark?Not the ark

Type AntitypeNoah and his family “saved by means of water” in the the flood.

We “in like figure” (anti- type) are saved by means of baptism.

The type and the antitype both worked well!

1:18, …Ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things ... but with precious blood ... even the blood of Christ.

1:22, …Ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the Truth…

2:25, For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

(RSV) as an appeal to God for a clear conscience

"request, appeal … an appeal to God for a clear conscience" (Arndt & Gingrich, 285)
