Barkley Forum Summer Scholars Program Application Dear Student, We are pleased you are interested in applying for the inaugural Barkley Forum Summer Scholars Program at the Emory National Debate Institute, which will be held June 7-20, 2020. While this is not a financial award, the opportunities it will present you will serve you well in your debate career and in your college admissions process. Even this application you are about to complete is a valuable learning opportunity, since it is the same application the Barkley Forum uses for Emory’s full-tuition Woodruff Debate Scholar undergraduate scholarship. As you probably know, among the benefits of participating in this program are: Advanced policy debate curriculum and an early opportunity to debate the 2020-2021 topic Excellent teaching staff, including working with Emory debate coaches Opportunity to engage with Emory University faculty members Interaction with Emory admissions and Woodruff Debate Scholars program Formal dinner with university official and/or faculty member Workshop on best practices for applying for university-wide scholarships The deadline for us to receive your application and the letter of recommendation is April 25th. Dear Student,

We are pleased you are interested in applying for the inaugural Barkley Forum Summer Scholars Program at the Emory National Debate Institute, which will be held June 7-20, 2020. While this is not a financial award, the opportunities it will present you will serve you well in your debate career and in your college admissions process. Barkley Forum Summer Scholars Program Application

Please include all information requested in this document and a recommendation from your debate coach. If no one meets that description at your school, we prefer a recommendation from a teacher or counselor who can speak to the role of debate in your academic life.

All material must be completed and returned to the Barkley Forum for Debate, Deliberation, and Dialogue by April 25 in order for you to be considered for the Barkley Forum Summer Scholars Program. The program is open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The cost of the program is $1,700 for residents staying on campus and $1,400 for commuters who will attend each day from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. There is no early bird discount.
