Congratulations, you are the proud owner o

the fnest Production crossbow in the world!

Please ollow all saety, assembly and trouble shooting

instructions contained in this manual. It is extremely important

to read and ollow the instructions beore attempting to useyour crossbow. Serious injuries to yoursel or others, damage to

your crossbow, or poor perormance rom your crossbow could

result rom ailure to thoroughly read and understand these

instructions. I any part o this manual is unclear to you, contact

the Sales Department at 800-237-4507. Ater assembly o your

crossbow, please keep your manual or uture reerence.

For the Quad AVi, Barnett highly recommends using a 22Carbon or Aluminum arrow with hal moon nock weighing

at least 450 total grains including a 125-grain practice tip

or broadhead. Depending on your state regulations, we

recommend using mechanical broadheads, which result in a

    more consistent ight pattern.

Saety GuidelinesBarnett Quad AVicrossbows are equipped with an automatic

saety, which engages every time the crossbow is cocked. The

saety must be released beore each shot. This, as with any othermechanical device, does not guarantee total saety, as no saety

device is a substitute or common sense and sae handling. The

crossbow trigger is only to be pulled when the saety is in re

position and NEVER when it is in the sae position or anywhere

between sae and re. Do not attempt to alter or modiy the

saety or the trigger mechanism. When the trigger is pulled beore

the saety is released, the saety may not release. To correct this, push the trigger pull orward, then release the saety catch.

The ollowing rules should be ollowed at all times:

EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE USED AT ALL TIMES WHEN

HANDLING A CROSSBOW. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE RULES

COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Always keep your ngers below the ight track and out o the

path o cables and strings when ring the crossbow. Never dry-re the crossbow (shooting without an arrow or too

light o an arrow). Dry ring will void the warrantyand can

result in damage to the limb assembly and possibly cause

    personal injury.

Never re the crossbow until you are sure o your target.

Always use an adequate target and backstop when target

    shooting.

Always use suitable crossbow arrows, such as Barnetts 22

Carbon Arrows with hal moon nocks made by BARNETT or

the Quad AVi. Arrows o improper stifness or mass weight may

damage the limb and cable assembly, voiding the warrantyand

    possibly cause personal injury.

Always inspect the crossbow and arrows beore ring. Bent or

damaged arrows are not sae to re and should be discarded

    or repaired.

    Installing an Optional Scope

The recommended crossbow scope is a Barnett 4x32 mm

    ve-reticle scope, which includes 1 rings to t a 3/8 dovetail

    mount.

Remove peep sight rom the scope rail.

Position your scope by moving it orward or backward until

the proper eye relie is ound. This is typically three to our

inches rom your eye to the eyepiece when you are holding the

    crossbow in a shooting position.

Ater the scope is installed you may remove the ront sight

    bracket and pins.

Important: Be sure to tighten scope mount rings beore

    shooting crossbow.

    Crossbow Operation

Cocking Your Crossbow Be sure to apply Barnett lubewax to the center string

serving, cables and the fight track area rom the string to

    the trigger area.

Place the oot stirrup on the

ground with one oot in the

    stirrup and the stock resting

against your mid section. SeeFigure 7

    Place both hands on the

string at each side o the

    crossbow body no more than

    inch rom crossbow body.

    Using even pressure pull the

string back until it locks intothe trigger mechanism with an audible click. Be sure to apply

    downward pressure against ight track.

    Fig 7

    8

  • 8/2/2019 Barnett Quad Avi

    9/20

Slowly release hand pressure on the string until you are sure

it is locked securely into the trigger mechanism. The crossbow

is now cocked with the saety on. Make sure that the string is

seated at the bottom o the tumbler. The tumbler is the parto the trigger that the string is resting on when cocked. I it is

resting at the top o the tumbler, use both thumbs and gently

push string down until it is seated at the bottom o the tumbler

    to ensure proper arrow ight.

Note:The serving on the string has had a line on each side o the

ight surace marked at the actory. Ater cocking the crossbow

make sure that the marks on the string are showing equally on

each side o the trigger mechanism. Unevenly cocked crossbows

will have erratic arrow ight. When restringing your crossbow

mark the serving o the string, on each side o the ight track at

rest, where the string leaves the ight surace (track) and apply

Barnett Lubewax to the string serving and track surace.

    Arrow Retainer

When loaded, the arrow should lie at in the ight groove. The

arrow retaining spring should not be twisted to the let or right

and should exert only enough pressure on the rear o the arrow

to hold it in place. It should not lit the ront o the arrow of the

ight groove. At this point, the arrow should be lying directly

parallel with the ight groove. We recommend the use o Barnett

arrows manuactured specically or your Barnett crossbow.

    Loading your Crossbow

Place the arrow orward under the ront sight bracket and lay the

arrow on the ight surace. When using arrows with hal moon

nocks, be sure that the odd colored etch is placed in the ight

groove and that the concaved nock is parallel to the string.

Slide the arrow back under the arrow retaining spring and ullyinto the trigger mechanism. Note: The arrow retaining spring

should only exert enough pressure to hold the arrow in place

without liting it rom its position on the fight surace.

    10/20

This will prevent your hands rom being struck by the string

as it travels orward. The velocity o the string hitting your

    fngers will cause severe injury.

    Firing your Crossbow

To re the arrow rom your crossbow:

Point the crossbow in a sae direction.

Slide the saety orward to the of position. The crossbow

will now re when the trigger is pulled. The saety MUST be

disengaged in this manner prior to every shot.

BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR FINGERS BELOW THE STOCK FORE

END (FLIGHT TRACK) WHILE SHOOTING. Note photos below.

    Unloading your Crossbow

By ar, the easiest way to un-cock a cocked crossbow is to re an

arrow into a target or into the ground away rom debris, loose

    rocks or other people.

    Sighting-In the Crossbow

Using the rear peep sight and ront sight pins:

Place the rst sight pin near the top o the ront sight bracket.

    10

    11/20

Shooting at a target rom 10 yards, aim or the bulls eye. I the

rst shot is above the bulls eye, move the pin up (or down i

the shot is below the bulls eye).

I the rst shot is to the let o the bulls eye, screw the pin to thelet (or right i the shot is to the right).

TIP: Move the pin in the direction o the error, ollow the arrow.

Continue in this manner until you have three consecutive

shots into the bulls eye. Repeat this procedure with the

other pin, starting near the bottom o the sight bracket. It is

recommended that the bottom pin be sighted in to the 30 to 35

    yard range.

    Arrow Selection and Proper Flight

Due to the unique design o your Barnett crossbow, it is

imperative that only specied arrows are used. These arrows are

correctly weighted to absorb the high energy generated by the

compound design. Lighter arrows simulate a dryre condition

and will result in damage to the crossbow VOIDING the warranty.Barnetts 22 Carbon arrows are correctly spined.

DRY FIRING WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.

Use Barnetts 22 Carbon arrows with straight, ofset or helical

    etches with Hal Moon Nock.

Recommended xed blade broadheads can be any three blade

low prole broadhead with a cutting diameter no larger than1-3/16.

When using xed blade broadheads, the blades must be

aligned with the etches o the arrow. This can be done by

placing a rubber o-ring between the broadhead and the arrow

    ront insert.

Mechanical broadheads that simulate the ight o a eld point

    may be used where legal.

When cocking your crossbow make a conscious efort to

hold the string on the ight track so as not to lit over the

    arrowretainer.

Are you putting one etching down in the ight groove?

When using broadheads, line up the blades with the etches

    on the arrow (using o-ring).

Have you checked the tiller to see i any adjustments should

be made? Tiller is the measurement between the base o the

limb and the bowstring. The tiller measurement tells you i

both limbs are equally stressed. Your bow is in proper tiller

    when this measurement

is the same or both limbs.

    Uneven tiller will cause

    erratic arrow ight. All

    crossbows are accurately

    tillered at the actory prior

    to shipping. To adjust the

tiller, use an allen wrenchand measuring tape as

    shown in the illustration.

    See Figure 8.

    String Fraying

Are you using Barnett lubewax on the center string serving and

ight track every 5-10 shots and on the cables when needed?

Keep the trigger mechanism and ight surace ree o

    obstruction.

Check or metal burrs on the ight track and arrow end caps.

    Limbs Weak or Losing Power

Has the crossbow been dry red? (could cause limb to crack).

Inspect the limbs or splits or cracks.

Are you using Barnett string (the proper length)?

    Care and Maintenance

    Care o String

The owners kit contains a tube o lube wax that should beapplied to the center serving and ight track every 5 10 shots.

Lube wax should also be applied anywhere the cables make

contact with the Teon tape or ight track every 20 30 shots. To

extend the lie o your cables it is important to apply ARCHERY

STRING WAX to all areas o the cables and string every 30 - 50

shots or when white uzz begins to appear. I the crossbow has

been exposed to excessive moisture you may need to apply wax

    sooner.

    Care o AVi Limbs

AVi is an Anti Vibration Isolation process that encapsulates

standard bow limbs. I scratches or minor cuts appear in the limb

caused by contact rom outside objects, the bow limb is not

afected and should not be returned or warranty. Use caution

when placing in a bow press or when around sharp objects to

avoid damage to the covering itsel. Note: It is normal or AVi

limb material to displace around the Limb/Prod Area.

PRIOR TO EVERY SHOOTING SESSION, IT IS RECOMMENDED

THAT A COMPLETE CHECK OF CABLES, WHEELS, SCREWS

    AND ARROWS BE MADE.

Always store your crossbow in a sae, dry place.

Do not expose your crossbow to extreme heat, such as closed, hot vehicles or near heat sources.

Inspect cables and strings or signs o wear. An authorized

service center or the actory should replace Cables showing

    wear immediately.

Periodically put a ew drops o quality lightweight machine oil

    in the trigger mechanism.

Periodically lubricate the eccentric wheel axels with lightweightmachine oil.

Keep the ight track and the string serving waxed, reducing

    riction.14

    15/20

Your prod can be let strung indenitely although we do not

recommend that the bow be let in the cocked position or

    periods longer than our hours.

With reasonable care o your equipment and diligent practice, yourcrossbow will remain an accurate, highly efcient hunting weapon.
