SENIOR FAREWELLS6 May 2016

B-L INE FAREWELLS

Dear B-Line Staff,During the four years I have been at B-Line, we have made tremendous progress. I know that after the seniors leave, I am leaving its continued success in very capable hands.Seniors: I love you all. You are my support system. Our four years together have been unforgettable and full of surprises. You’re my favorite group on B-Line (shhh, don’t tell). I love our editing sessions together in the Library Meeting Room and our crepe expeditions. Katherine: You have always been so productive and dependable. I LOVE the advice page, your features (yes, especially the #nomakeup piece), and all of those random articles you so nicely agreed to write. Shivani: If I ever need anything, I know I can rely on you. You are a writing genius and an Indesign master. Valerie: Thank you for being my partner in crime. You are such a good editor and your sassy comments keep me going. Sarah: Remind me never to fight you. I think you would win. You keep the entire staff laughing and on their toes. Even though sometimes I make you get rid of them, your puns and school bus photo essays make my day.Juniors: I look forward to seeing everything that you two accomplish. Eli: Keep everyone in line. You learn so quickly and put so much effort and thought into everything you do. Ellie: I am so proud of you and know that you will do great things. If you ever need anything, call me.Sophomores: Thank you for putting up with my occasional outbursts, bouncy behavior, and seemingly incessant demands. Know that I am proud of your successes. Richard: You are hilarious and an invaluable member of B-Line. Keep it up next year. Danielle: You are such a strong writer! I was particularly impressed with your Kansas City streetcar piece. You continually surprise me with your willingness to take on challenging layouts and difficult writing pieces. Francesca: Scooch! Well, we made it through this year together. Everyone just needs a daily dose of some Scooch sarcasm. You are a stellar layout artist. Bijan: I’m so glad you joined, because you are one of the most promising sports writers we have on staff. I love your willingness to learn and your easygoing attitude. Kat: You never fail to make me laugh. You have mastered the A&E page and consistently do excellent work. Luke: Your Photoshop skills are unparalleled. I know that I can trust you with any assignment and I always look forward to seeing what you come up with. Keep up the dedication and the hard work. Mr. Rubaie: I cannot thank you enough for all you do for the B-Line. I don’t know how we would have done it without you. You are an amazing mentor, advisor, and all-around person. Your dedication and positivity consistently make my day.I love you all.P.S. – I even forgive you for plastering my extremely awkward picture all over the computer desktop backgrounds.

The B-Line has been one of my most special involvements at Barstow. The opportunities, experiences and friendships that this class has brought me have greatly shaped my high school experience. I feel very lucky to have been on staff during the paper’s transformation from quarterly issues to monthly issues, and a part of the remodeling of the paper. With our creative, hard-working and diverse staff, we have changed the paper to be a modern representation of the school and student body, with loads of fun along the way.

I would like to thank the senior members on staff for all our adventures. We have survived room changes, leadership changes and the 2014-2015 staff. My time on B-Line would not have been the same without all of you wonderful, supportive and amazingly inventive ladies. I would also like to thank the two mighty junior staff members. Your passion and dedication have helped create an original and enjoyable publication. To the sophomore staff members, I would like to thank you for your positivity and willingness to learn. You all will take the paper to exciting places in the next few years. To the freshman, thanks for nothing.* Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Rubaie. Your enthusiasm and commitment to the B-Line has been pivotal in the production of each issue, and sets the positive tone of the class. Thank you for being the most supportive, understanding and delightful advisor we could ever ask for. You have been such an amazing mentor and friend, and I will fondly look back on our time working together.

I am confident that the B-Line will continue to improve in our absence. I am excited to visit and see all the progress in the years to come. I would like to encourage the student body to continue reading the B-Line and support the amazing staff and all of their hard work. I am going to miss our daily hour of laughs, food and fun.

SENIOR FAREWELLSMay 2016 7

To the B-Line Staff:Thank you for always brightening my day with pancakes and puns. Richard, Luke and Bijan: You have done a great job with your first year on the staff and I hope you continue to improve in the future. Danielle: Thank you for being willing and eager to help and always being timely with your tasks. Kat: You always bring a positive and fun attitude to B-Line and you’ve improved so much from the start of B-Line. You mastered the skills you learned so quickly and you’ll kill it next year. Francesca: The Arts and Entertainment page would not be the same without your new ideas every issue. I cannot wait to see the projects you will take on in the future. Eli: Thanks for being so awesome at writing about sports, becuase I definitely can’t. You’ll do a great job leading the class next year. Ellie: I am so happy to have gotten the opportunity to work with you over the last three years. You’re so passionate about journalism and I know you will continue to improve the B-Line while you’re editor next year. Shivani: You are so sweet and never fail to not only finish your work, but to do it well. Good luck for whatever you do in the future. Sophia: I could not have asked for a better editor. You know how to lead without being bossy and I’m always amazed by your ideas (and your maps). Valerie: We killed it on the advice page this year and the feature last year. Thanks for always creating the best pages with me. Val & Katty G forever. Sarah: Your puns in class brighten everybody’s day a little. Even though you love to procrastinate, you always finish your pages on time and create interesting layouts. Meow meow. Mr. Rubaie: You’re the best advisor the B-Line staff could ask for. I love how you respect and consider our ideas, but also share yours. You put in so much work to make the paper amazing and we all appreciate that. Thank you for two great years on the staff.

Having been a part of the B-Line staff for the past four years, I have met so many different people and have so many memories to cherish from my experience. When I joined B-Line staff freshman year, I honestly never expected to continue throughout high school and I especially did not anticipate enjoying B-Line as much as I do now. Being a part of this staff has definitely been a fun highlight of my high school experience, and I must say it is mostly due to the exposure I got to journalism and the entire staff making it so incredible.

I must thank my fellow seniors, Sophia Mauro, Katherine Grabowsky, Valerie Mombello and Sarah Xu for making the experience so memorable over the past few years. I want to thank Mr. Rubaie for being such a supportive and encouraging advisor and pushing me to take on various writing subjects. It’s allowed me to become a better writer and to express opinions on topics I could never express before. This year was my favorite year on the staff because of the great diversity of the staff. It was great having people from all sports, clubs, and music departments to cover all aspects of the student body. Each member brought something special to newspaper and I will never forget the fun times we had together.

Even though I am not continuing an education in journalism, I have learned many valuable skills. If given the opportunity, I would join the staff again in a heartbeat. Four years ago I came onto this staff not knowing what to expect. Four years later, I wonder just where time went, but leave here with some awesome experiences, memories and friends. Thank you to everyone who was a part of this journey in any way; I wouldn’t trade any of it. B-Line staff you guys were a lot of fun and easy to work with. Always remember to stay true to yourself. I’m going to miss everyone. I wish you all the best. Farewell, B-Line Staff.
