  • INTRODUCTIONBasalt is well known as the rock found in the virtually every country all around the world.Basalt Fiber is a material which is made from the extremely fine fibers of the Basalt (Basalt is a dark-colored (green or black)), in which sio2 accounts for the main part followed by Al2O3 then Fe2O3, Feo, Cao, & Mgo.This is very much similar to the Carbon Fiber and the Fiber Glass. Which is having better Physic mechanical properties than the fiber glass. The Basalt base composites can be replacing steel and known reinforced plastics. One Kg of basalt reinforces is equals to 9.6 Kg of the steel.

  • DO YOU KNOW?BASALT ROCK FIBER SCOPEFig.1 CORROSION MAP OF INDIAFig.2 HEAVILY CORRODED REINFORCEMENTS IN A TYPICAL MARINESTRUCTURE

  • There are 583,000 bridges in the United States (1998). Of this total, 200,000 bridges are steel, 235,000 are conventional reinforced concrete, 108,000 bridges are constructed using prestressed concrete, and the balance is made using other materials of construction. Approximately 15 percent of the bridges are structurally deficient, primarily due to corrosion of steel and steel reinforcement. The annual direct cost of corrosion for highway bridges is estimated to be $8.3 billion,

  • Corrosion Controlling Technologies: Protective coatings and linings. Metallic coatings and claddings. Corrosion resistant composites. Corrosion resistant alloys. Corrosion inhibitors. Cathodic & Anodic protection.

  • Basalt Reinforcement BarsThey are used in production of building components, panels barriers sidewalk, pavement and facing slabs, and many other structural components. BCRs are anisotropic materials which imply the variation of mechanical properties in longitudinal and transverse directionBASALT ROCK FIBRE PRODUCTS Hydraulic Engineering.

  • Basalt GeotextileBasalt fiber geotextile uses basalt fiber with strong alkali-resisting and acid-resisting as raw material. With its good consistency with bituminous mixture and stable physical and chemical performance, it can resist erosion and climate change. It prevents cracks on the surface. The cost is 4-5% lower than other geotextile material

  • Basalt Reinforcing MeshBasalt reinforcing mesh is designed for reinforcing road and highway overlays. Basalt reinforcing mesh makes it possible to reduce thickness of asphalt concrete pavement up to 20% It prevents cracks on the surface.

  • Basalt Reinforced High-pressure PipesThe weight of one meter of basalt reinforced high-pressure pipes is 3 to 4 times less than the one meter of steel pipe.Basalt-pipes has low thermal conductivityHigh chemical resistance to aggressive media Equipment.

  • BASALT MATERIAL AS STRENGTHENING METHODThe External Strengthening

  • Fiber MatrixesFiber matrixes are put in the concrete to increase strength in typical steel reinforced beams. The matrixes are placed in the concrete beam in such a way as to maximize the shear strength and prevent cracks

  • Comparison of Basalt, E-glass, S-glass, Aramid & Carbon Fiber

  • FIELD APPLICATIONS OF BASALT ROCK FIBRE Construction.Reinforcement of bridges,Tunnels,Repair (healing) of cracks, local damage to building, bridges, building construction,Reinforced structures,Hydraulic construction, etc.,

  • Road Construction.Reinforcement of concrete and asphalt pavements and runways,Curbstones, Pavement linings (basalt casting), Small moulds.

  • Engineering Net Work.Pipelines for heating and hot water supply,Pipelines for heat supply,Canalization,Oil and gas pipelines,Pipes for chemical products and transportation of aggressive media,Pumps for aggressive media. Etc.,

  • They offer a number of advantages over the conventional steel bars as well as FRP bars. Their light weight combined with non-corrosive nature will result in economic and sustainable reinforced concrete structures. BCR is an ideal choice for applications such as marine structures, off-shore structures, parking structures, bridge decks, highway under extreme environments, and structures highly susceptible to corrosion (paper and chemical industries) and for pervious concrete pavements. The cost of basalt is 10 times lower than that of raw materials for fiberglass. Basalt is more available than any other raw material. Also the melting temperature is lower, thus energy consumption lower. Basalt Rock fibers have no toxic reaction with air or water, are non-combustible and explosion proof. When in contact with other chemicals they produce no chemical reactions that may damage health or the environment. Basalt base composites can replace steel and known reinforced plastics (1 kg of basalt reinforces equals 9.6 kg of steel). As of its characteristics and properties, basalt fiber can be really considered as the material of our future for green and sustainable development. CONCLUSIONS
