THE ROAD TO CALVARY

Through the transfiguration, Jesus disclosed his divine glory,

confirming Peter’s words: “You are the Messiah.”

This directly followed Jesus’ revelation to Peter,James, and John that he would have to endure the suffering of the cross to enter into glory. (Why?)

Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus at the Transfiguration,

and this was reflectiveof Jesus’ own roleas bearer of the New Covenant.

Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a

voice:

“This is my Son, theBeloved; listen to him!”

Even after the Transfiguration, Jesus had to address the challenges to discipleship

with which his disciples struggled.He seeks to deepen their understanding as he prepares for His death.

The new Passover,initiated by Jesus at the Last Supper,

is our liberation from the slavery of sin.Every celebration of the Eucharistis a memorial of Christ’s Passover.
