A trademark is  a  recognizable sign, design, or expression which identifies products 

        or services of  a  particular  source  from  those  of others                  A  trademark  may  be  located  on  a package, a label, a voucher, or on the product itself.

The  trademark  owner  can  be  an individual, business  organization,  or  any legal entity.

COMPANY BACKGROUND The company, MRF ltd originally started as a small manufacturing unit of balloons, latex cast squeaking toys and industrial gloves.

The company was established in the year 1949 at Chennai. A young entrepreneur, K. M. Mammen  Mappillai, opened a small toy balloon manufacturing unit at Tiruvattiyur, Chennai. It begins the manufacturing

      of tyre’s in the year 1961. In 1961 the Madras Rubber Factory Pvt Ltd company converted to public company.

The company was given permission to export tyre’s having Mansfield trademark to all world markets except U.S.A and Canada.

Licensing: owner retains ownership and agrees to the use of the TM by other companies in exchange of royalties > licensing agreement (business expansion/diversification)

Franchising: licensing of a TM central to franchising agreement . The franchiser allows franchisee to use his way of doing business (TM, know-how, customer service, s/w, shop decoration, etc)
