INTRODUCTION

According to the book of Revelation (the last book of the Bible) the major issue that will be involved in the final conflict between good and evil, is the matter of worship. At the center of the issue will be the question of, ‘who deserves our worship.’ In this lesson, we answer the question of who we ought to worship and what is the ‘sign’ of true worship.

NOTE:

John, in vision, saw (according to Revelation 13) that worship will play a very important role in the final events of earth's history. John saw that during the time of the end, the world will be divided into two classes of people, 1) those who worship the beast and his image (which represents a religio-political power and 2) those who worshiped and maintained their allegiance to the Lamb (Jesus Christ) (see also Revelation 13:8).

God is the only One who deserves to be worshiped. Not even an angel deserves to receive the allegiance and reverence that belong only to God (see Revelation 19:10).

God has given us the Sabbath as a sign and reminder that He is Creator of heaven and earth (see also Ezekiel 20:12, 20). By keeping the Sabbath, we guard against losing sight of our dependence on and obligation to God.

The Sabbath was established during creation on the seventh-day. On each day of the six previous days of creation, God made everything in the earth that we now see and enjoy, but on the seventh day, God ended His work, rested, blessed the seventh day and made it holy.

No. The Sabbath was made for all mankind. The Jews were, in a special sense commanded to keep the Sabbath and reminded about it, because they were called to be God's special people who would keep His commandments, as opposed to most of the heathen nation who showed little or no respect for the God of heaven (see Exodus 19:4-6; Nehemiah 9; Romans 3:1, 2).

We should worship God every day, but the Sabbath is a day for God’s people to come aside and worship Him together. Jesus, while He was on earth made it a habit to attend the house of worship on Sabbath (see also Isaiah 66:22, 23).
