A Little About Spreadsheets
A spreadsheet can be many things.
Money & Finance Scheduling
Or something else requiring organization.
Nuts and Bolts
Spreadsheets are put in what is called a Workbook. You can have several spreadsheets within a notebook.
Spreadsheets are pages with divisions that are vertical and horizontal. The vertical are columns, the horizontal are rows.
Columns
Rows
Coordinates and Formulas
This area tells which cell has been selected.
This box, called the Formula Bar,Gives you the number that is in the Selected cell.
Sometimes you will need to Enter a formula, this is where it goes.
Entering the data: Use Tab to move to the right, Return to move down. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard for more
control.
Formulas
Formulas are mathematical equations to determine a value for something.
Formulas can be very basic (adding, subtracting) or complex (requiring the Formula Builder).
Basic adding.
Type in two numbers, in two cells, one on top of the other. Go downand click on a cell that is about threerows below, then click on the blue Sigmaicon at the top. Move the corners of the box that is created to highlight only thenumbers you are adding. Hit Enter andyou have created your first formula!
Borders
If you want to add a line underneath, the easiest way to add a line underneath is to use the Command + 1 shortcut. Then click on the Border tab to create the line, and the type of line you want.
Fill Color
There are two ways to add fill color to your cell. You could use the Command + 1 shortcut and go to the Fill tab, or you could use the paint bucket on the Home tab on your toolbars to get the same results. No Fill turns it back to white.
