Day 2: AC Variable Speed Drive Basics Part 1 DESCRIPTION: This presentation is the first of a two-part session on AC drives. It starts with a short review of what an electric motor is and how it functions. Next comes an explanation on what a drive is and how they are constructed. From there it goes on to how the drive actually functions to control a motor. Different types of drive configurations and their purpose are discussed as well as applications and load types. The day ends on an introduction to drive issues and problems that may arise when applying a drive.WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anybody looking for an entry-level understanding of what an AC variable speed drive is, how it functions, and when/how it’s applied. (Sales • Maintenance)REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND: None, but basic electricity and AC motor knowledge is helpful. No prerequisites, this is a basic class.
TBD: AC Variable Speed Drive Basics Part 2 DESCRIPTION: This is Part Two of the above drive presentation. This covers the installation and startup of a drive and the basic programming of the parameters required to get a drive functioning. Drive troubleshooting is also covered along with a hands-on lab in setting up a basic configuration for the drive.WHO SHOULD ATTEND: For those who want to learn how to install, program, and set up a drive in a basic configuration. Also for anyone wanting to learn basic troubleshooting knowledge of drives. (Sales • Maintenance)REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND: Basic knowledge of drives and motors, or have attended the Part One course above.
Day 1: Electric Motor Basics DESCRIPTION: This presentation is designed to cover the basics of electric motors to include the history and an overview of electricity. Motor components, types and specifications are covered as well as nameplate data. Also covered are installation/application issues and basic motor maintenance with failure methods. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Anybody looking for an entry level understanding of what an electric motor is, how it works, and how to care for it. (Sales • Maintenance • Purchasing • Machine Operators)REQUIREMENTS TO ATTEND: None, but basic knowledge of electricity is helpful.
