The Fourth Way of "rayer

Our holy father, %aint 2ominic, was also seen to ray standing erect with his hands and armsoutstretched forcefully in the form of a cross. He rayed in this way when God, through hissu lications, raised to life the boy Na oleon in the sacristy of the 1hurch of %aint %i3tus in >ome,and when he was raised from the ground at the celebration of &ass, as the good and holy %ister1ecilia, who was resent with many other eo le and saw him, narrates. He was li e $lias whostretched himself out and lay u on the widow=s son when he raised him to life.

:n a similar manner he rayed near Toulouse when he delivered the grou of $nglish ilgrims fromdanger of drowning in the river. Our -ord rayed thus while hanging on the cross, that is, with hishands and arms e3tended and 4with a loud cry and tears ... he was heard because of his reverentsubmission4 @Hebrews B(IA.

Nor did the holy man 2ominic resort to this manner of raying unless he was ins ired by God to nowthat something great and marvelous was to come about through the ower of his rayer. !lthough hedid not forbid the brethren to ray in this way, neither did he encourage them to do so. We do not nowwhat he said when he stood with his hands and arms e3tended in the form of a cross and raised theboy to life. He certainly followed the ro het=s e3terior manner in hisrayers on that occasion. This is true whether, in doing so, he wished to move God in somewonderful manner through his rayer or whether he felt through some interior ins iration that God wasto move him to see some singular grace for himself or his neighbor.
