The GPS workshop is facilitated by the Department of Labor, Veterans Administration, and M&FRC. *Prerequisite: Pre-Separation Counseling. VA STAND ALONE WORKSHOP Oct 26, Nov 30, Dec 14 • 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those exempt from the mandatory 5-day TAP GPS workshop must attend a Veterans Administration stand-alone workshop. Topics covered include critical VA programs and services ranging from general benefits information to disability compensation and GI Bill benefit. CAREER EXPLORATION AND PLANNING TRACK (CEPT ) Oct 4-5 • 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This optional track offers a unique opportunity to identify skills, increase awareness of training and credentialing programs, and develop an action plan to achieve career goals. You must have attended a TAP GPS workshop prior to registering for this class. BASIC RESUME WRITING Nov 13 • 9:30-11 a.m. Don’t spend time being frustrated over writing a resume. Learn techniques that assist you in preparing a non-federal style resume. USAJOBS NAVIGATION/FEDERAL RESUME TRAINING Oct 25, Nov 29, Dec 20 • 8:30–11 a.m. Learn how to create your federal resume using the USAJOBS Federal system. SALARY NEGOTIATION WORKSHOP Dec 7 • 10 a.m. to Noon This workshop will focus on preparation (individual market value / skill set), interviewing tactics, what to do once an offer is received, and mock negotiation scenarios. INTERVIEWING SKILLS WORKSHOP Dec 14 • 10 a.m. to noon This workshop will help participants prepare for an upcoming job interview. We’ll focus on the different types of interviews, how to research potential employers, how to dress for the interview, and more! You will also have an opportunity to practice a mock interview. NEWLY ASSIGNED COMMANDER AND FIRST SERGEANT BRIEFING Oct 2, Nov 6, Dec 4 • 8-11 a.m. Attention newly assigned Commanders and First Sergeants; this event will provide mandatory briefings, satisfy AFI requirements, and introduce you to key personnel from the following base support agencies: Equal Opportunity (EO), Family Advocacy (FAP), Mental Health (MH), Medical (HIPAA), Military & Family Readiness (M&FRC), and Sexual Assault Prevention/Response (SAPR). BOOTS TO BUSINESS Oct 30-31 • 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Small Business Administration offers a two-day entrepreneurial workshop. Topics include steps for evaluating business concepts, foundational knowledge required to develop a business plan, and information on SBA resources to access startup capital and additional technical assistance. SBA and Defense Department officials are now ex- panding the Boots to Business program beyond transitioning troops to any service member at any time in their career. Mili- tary spouses are also invited to attend. * You must pre-register for this class. SURVIVOR BENEFIT PLAN BRIEFING: The Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) briefing is required by law for all retiring service members and their spouses not later than 120 days prior to the approved retirement date. Our SBP Counselors will begin making contact 180 days prior to the approved retirement date to ensure all retiring service members are scheduled for this im- portant briefing. The online application provides a sponsor checklist, newcomer needs assess- ment, customizable letters, emails, and more! Once complete, visit the M&FRC for additional resources to help you be an effective sponsor! If your family members want to learn more about sponsorship, they can access the eSAT course through My Training Hub with an email address and password. Caregivers will be educated and provided the tools to make informed choices. Topics include health issues, accessing services, long-distance care-giving, stress management, and community/military resources. Facilitated by the Bexar County Agency on Aging.
