WORKSHOP REPORT

With a number of extra-curricular events lining up consecutively in the ILS, it was a time

someone had thought of doing something different. This was when Mr. Saurabh Siddhartha, who

is also in-charge of teaching the subject Drafting, Pleading & Conveyance thought of organizing

an out-of-the-box workshop for the Students of ILS. On top of all of this, the workshop was

made completely free of cost for all the participants. There was just one catch; the seats for

participation were limited to 80 only. The Student Conveners for the workshop, 2nd

Year

B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) students, Rudresh Srivastava & Ankush Gupta, got to the work of spreading

the word. The Registration Form was opened at 3:00 PM sharp, and within 40 minutes, the

organizers had received the 80 students they were looking for. What came as a shock to all was

that 70% of the participants of the workshop consisted of students from the 1st Year only. Such

was the enthusiasm of the students. Day 1 of the workshop stared with the opening ceremony,

where our respected Vice-Chancellor Sir & Dean Sir encouraged the students to make the most

of this event. After this Mr. Alok Kumar & Mr. Prashant Chauhan gave the students a general

idea about drafting and the key things to keep in mind while preparing a draft. What made this

workshop different from the other ones was that the students were not called up here for another

boring 3-day of lectures and everything. Instead, they were provided with all of the study

material beforehand which they had to study and come prepared. The session was made a rather

practical one. Students were divided into 8 groups of 10 each. Each group had to submit 1

document each, so the participants had to work together because one document represented all of

them. First day started off easy, with the drafts of Plaints, Written Statements & Divorce

Petitions being made. Things got hyped up on the 2nd

Day. While the first half consisted of only

drafting a Legal Notice, the organizers had something else up in their sleeves. The participants,

in the next half, were divided into employers & employees. 4 groups were made employers and

the other 4 the employees. Now, here came the real part, the participants were the team of

lawyers from either side, and they had to negotiate and come up with an employment agreement

suiting both the parties. This was the time when the best from every team came into the light.

The auditorium was transformed into areas of round table conferences, where teams were

discussing, arguing, everything possible to make their agreements the best for their clients. With

such a heated session, the participants were given their day off, and it was the time for the

Conveners, to do something even better for the final day.

On the final day, the teams were given the final shock. The Agreement, which they drafted, was

the one in dispute, and now they had come to a settlement through arbitration and draft up an

Arbitration Agreement. The place was theirs for the next 2 hours, and they had to come up with

viable solutions for the same. Now, this time, the participants were warmed up to their core, and

since their drafting and negotiating skills were already sharpened to the point where they could

be ready for anything, there was a fully fledged war going on in the auditorium. From people

peacefully negotiating to teams being vocal, everything could’ve been seen in that place. At the

end of Day 3, the teams submitted their Agreements, and were pretty much satisfied with the

same. Now came the most important part of all, the Written Assessment, where every person had

to give a test and qualify it, in order to qualify the Basic Workshop. Every Student was given a

few basic theoretical questions and 2 drafts to make at their own discord. This was then

evaluated by Mr. Saurabh Siddhartha himself and this test along with the Group Performances

were taken into consideration for the awards.

The Best Draftsman Award was bagged by Muskan Agarwal, a 1st Year Student.

Looking at the amazing drafts which were received, the Conveners decided that they will be

handing out 3 Special Mention Awards instead of 1. The ones bagging the Special Mention

Awards were G. Sisir, a 1st Year Student, Jannvi Pandey, another 1

st Year Student and Ananya

Misra, a 2nd

Year Student.

WORKSHOP REPORT

Following the great success of the first Workshop on Drafting, Pleading and Conveyance, the 2nd

Workshop was introduced in the Month of April 2018 which was a 5-Day Workshop on

Drafting, Pleading, Conveyance & ADR Methods. Receiving great critical acclaim from the first

workshop and an immensely positive response from the participants, the organizers planned on

organizing the 2nd

Edition of the Workshop, with ADR Methods being the newly introduced

topic.

The excitement level for this workshop was so high that the organizers had to put a cap for each

the year of study. The level of participation was this much that 100 registrations were reached in

merely 30 minutes of the opening of the Registration Link.

The 5 day workshop was divided into 2 parts majorly. The first 3 days were for the students who

haven’t participated in the 1st edition of the workshop. The next 2 days were for the new

participants as well as the old participants who participated in the 1st edition.

The Inaugural Session of the workshop started with the lightening of the lamp which was done

by Prof. (Dr.) Pawan K. Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor IUD, Prof. (Dr.) Muddu Vinay, Pro Vice-

Chancellor IUD, Colonel A. K. Dutta, Registrar IUD along with Mrs. Monica Kharola, In-

Charge ILS. The Vice-Chancellor welcomed all the participants and encouraged them to give

their best to the event. The Pro Vice-Chancellor congratulated the organizers for organizing such

a wonderful platform for the students to learn great lot things. Finally, Mrs. Monica Kharola

gave a token of thanks to the people present in the auditorium and the event finally proceeded.

The 5 Days of the Workshop were filled with a number of activities with drafting of various

legal documents like Plaints, Divorce Petitions, Written Statements, Legal Notices, Employment

Agreements etc. The final 2 days of the events were the big eventful ones wherein half of the

teams were given a problem of 1 side and half were given the problem of another side. Both of

them were then asked to negotiate each other and come to a common consensus and thereby draft

an agreement. After this, the faculty convener pointed out the problems in the agreements and

asked them to come up to solve this issue over Mediation. With mediation and negotiation done,

the final day consisted of Arbitration wherein every team had to send 1 speaker in order to clear

up the issue with Arbitration.

Following this, the test of the workshop was consisted. Following the test, the results were:-

IIIrd Workshop – WORKSHOP ON DRAFTING PLEADING &

CONVEYANCE

(24-25 Nov, 2018)

Number of Participants : 80

Best Draftsman : Sonali Sinha

High Commendation : Kanav Bharati Gupta, Sheersha Saxena

Special Mention : Swechcha Mishra,Pankaj Prakash Shukla

Faculty Convener : Saurabh Siddhartha

REPORT

The first day of the workshop began with a crowd of participants full of zest to learn something

new which was backed by the motivational speeches given by the faculty incharge

Mr.SaurabhSiddharth and president of the committee Mr.RudreshSrivastava. Our esteemed

faculties Mr.Rajiv, Mr.Avishek Raj and Mr.Mohit also shed some light on the matters relating to

drafting.

The students began their activity sessions after a short informal ice breaker session, the aim of

which was to introduce the kind of communication skills and patience they would need for the

two days. The formal activity sessions for the day comprised of firstly briefing the students and

then making them draft plaint, written statements and divorce petitions. Asthe workshop went

forth, the participants had the opportunity to be briefed about legal notice by Advocate Ankit

Singh of Clifford and Chance who is also a PhD from Harvard Law School.

The participants were divided into 8 teams of 10-12 students each and the groups prepared one

draft each as they were directed to. Even though team work is what mattered for the day, there

were participants like GurneetKaur, SheershaSaxena, Swechcha Mishra, KanavBharti Gupta,

AmritGhoshi and Akshat Jain who came out with flying colours amidst the crowd with their

individual contributions in the activities.

The events for the day were wrapped up on anaffirmative note from the participants on how the

workshop proved to be different from the regular workshops which turned out to be banal due to

lack of interactive activities.

Day 2

Day 2 of the workshop witnessed a crowd that was as enthusiastic as the one on the first day of

the workshop. The faculty convener, Mr.Saurabh Siddhartha addressed the participants and

pointed out the mistakes in the drafts submitted on the previous day. He also talked about how

drafting a legal document is different from an ordinary document.

The day proceeded by announcement of the results from the previous rounds and Team Togepi

being the one to ace it, was followed by Teams Pikachu, Onix, Snorlax, Charmander, Bulbasaur,

Jigglypuff and Squirtle.

The first document drafted for the day was Legal Notice followed by the employment agreement

and the second was the arbitration agreement. The participants were also given a gist of how the

process of negotiation and arbitration works by first, making them negotiate on the employment

agreement and then carry out the process of arbitration on the points of conflict arising out of the

same. The teams were asked to appoint one arbitrator from each side and the third arbitrator was

appointed by the committee. The process went on for more than an hour with exhaustive debates

on the disputes referred for arbitration.

The Committee Members for Colloquy for the year 2018-19 were:-
