Holy Week is Next Week - Included in this bulletin on p. 8 is our complete schedule for Holy Week. Life is often filled with routine and busyness. If we allow that busyness to dictate our lives we can often miss out on important moments. The same is true if we never think to change up the routine of our lives. I encourage you to look over the Holy Week schedule carefully and plan now to enter into this very special time of prayer and reflection. May it be an opportunity to receive God's grace and be drawn deeper into the Paschal Mys-tery of the Lord’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection.

Sacrament of Reconciliation - During Lent more than any other time of year we see so clearly how much Jesus loves us as we meditate on his death on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins. I invite you to avail yourself to God's mercy by making a good confession. Last week I mentioned some of the reasons people sometimes stay away from confes-sion. None of those reasons may have been surprising. However, you might be surprised to know that one of the rea-sons some have come back is because someone close to them (spouse, sibling, good friend) provided the example for them and in some cases actually invited them to accompany them when they were going to confession. Did you ever consider, in a kind, gentle, non-judgmental way, inviting someone to go to confession? Maybe the Lord could use you to bring someone closer to Him?

In addition to our regular schedule of confessions, which is listed on the front cover of the bulletin, we will have our annual Lenten Confessions this Wednesday, March 21st beginning at 7 p.m. We hope to have about 15 priests available to hear confessions in English, Polish, French, Spanish, and Italian. It is my hope that with so many priests pre-sent you will take advantage of this time and not wait to the very end of Lent. Come and experience God's mercy and the joy of getting a fresh start.

Confessions on Sunday, March 18 - A reminder that confessions will be available after the 10 a.m. Mass on Sun-day until the Noon Mass begins and after the Noon Mass until 2 p.m. Extended time for Confessions next Saturday, March 24th - Confessions will be heard next Saturday, March 24th, from 3 - 4 p.m. and 5 - 6 p.m. in both the Upper and Lower Basilicas. Confessions are also heard every Saturday morn-ing after the 7 a.m. Mass and from 9 - 10 a.m. Feast of St. Joseph - The Feast of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, is March 19th. St. Joseph is the pa-tron saint of the Universal Church, the dying, families, fathers, expectant mothers, travelers, immi-grants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. The Feast of St. Joseph is celebrated as a Solemnity even though it falls within Lent and as such you are absolved of all Lenten practices for the day.

Prayer to St. Joseph Gracious St. Joseph, protect me and my family from all evil as you did the Holy Family. Kindly keep us ever united in the love of Christ, ever fervent in imitation of the virtue of our Blessed Lady, your sinless spouse, and always faithful in devotion to you. Amen.

Bishop Mitch Wants to Hear from You - A reminder that the closest Listening Session that the Bishop is holding is this Monday, March 19th, at St. Rose in Chicopee. See page 10 for other dates, places, times, and topics. Download our New and Free Parish App - As I mentioned a couple weeks ago this weekend we are launching the availability of a new way to be in contact with the parish on your mobile devices. See the article on page 3. To down-load this free App to your device text APP to 88202 or use this link: myparishapp.com/appstore. Business size cards with this info will be handed out as you leave Mass this weekend. Volunteer(s) Needed to Take Food Donations to Soup Kitchen- As you know, each first weekend of the month we ask parishioners to bring one non-perishable food item to church which we then take to Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen in Chicopee. The parishioner who had been doing that is no longer able to do it for physical reasons. In general, this has to be done at least once a month a couple days after the first Sunday of the month, but possibly a few other times since parishioners do bring in items throughout the month and we do not want the vestibule to be cluttered. If you think that you can pack up what comes in and take the donations to Lorraine’s, please call the Parish Office at 594-6669. Easter Flower and Meal Memorials - You can still submit your Easter Memorials in time to be included in the Easter bulletin if they are received by Monday, March 19th. Those received after that date will be included in a later bulletin.

Maintenance & Repair Dollars at Work - There are two 2nd collections that happen every month, one is for our school and the other one is for Maintenance and Repairs. There is always the ordinary and routine repairs that need to happen on a campus this size with the number of buildings that we have, but there are also some larger ones that occur. During a recent building inspection by the City of Chicopee we were informed that we needed to add emergency exit signs at all five of the doors in the Upper Basilica. That work was completed a few weeks ago. Not many people even noticed that the signs had been added, which is good because it means that they are not obtrusive, but they will help you find the exits in the dark. We also converted some exterior lights to have sensors on them and added a couple extra outdoor lights where there were some dark spots around the Basilica. This combined work cost $2,980. At the school, two of the storm drains in the parking lot began to sink and one was in danger of a complete collapse. This repair work will cost $4,000 when they are completely rebuilt once spring arrives for good. In the meantime, a temporary fix was done, which is included in the cost stated above. These are just two examples of how your generosity is used for the upkeep of our properties. May the Lord bless you for your support of the M & R 2nd collections! Holy Name Society and Junior Youth Ministry Sales - Please support the Holy Name Society’s annual Food and Bake Sale and the Junior Youth Ministry Sale of buttered lambs and Easter Lilies after all Masses next weekend. The HNS will also be selling their April Calendar Raffle tickets for $10. The total amount in prizes is $1,100. Final Thoughts - As we prepare for Holy Week next week let us all the more set some extra time aside for the Lord and plan for how we will truly make the week Holy for ourselves. May you allow the Lord to bless you with His Love and Forgiveness. • March Madness, aside from the snow, is under way. There are 8 Catholic schools among the 68 in the dance, including two #1 seeds. Another champion from the ACC? • Opening Day is just 11 days away and yes, I am still waiting for the Orioles to sign another legit starting pitcher. • Have a blessed week and keep up the Lenten training! - Fr. PONTIFICAL GOOD FRIDAY COLLECTION - Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides human-itarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you became an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. Please be generous!

B I U L E T Y N Parafialny - 18 marzec 2018

5 Niedziela Wielkiego Postu rok B

DIOCESE OF SPRINGFIELD

Office of the Bishop 76 Elliot Street – P.O. Box 1730

Springfield, Massachusetts 01102-1730 Dear friends, The New Year finds us making many resolutions and improvements in our daily living. I think back to the day I was installed as your bishop here in the Diocese of Springfield. At that installation I said I wanted to listen to you and I am resolute in continuing to do so. As Bishop, I work to foster unity amongst the priests through listening to one another and I am also seeking that same unity for the people of the Diocese. To that end, I would invite you to join me in listening sessions that will allow the efforts of a Pastoral Synod to take effect. All sessions will take place from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and will consist of three (3) questions with an allotted thirty (30) minutes for each. Each person who chooses to verbally participate will be given up to one (1) minute to voice their opinion. The word synod means ‘together on a journey’ and my goal, through these sessions, is to take the time to listen and continue walking together on this journey with renewed commitment and vigor to the many needs of the Diocesan Community. I look forward to being with you and hearing from you on how we can continue to ‘serve the Lord with gladness.’ Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Rev. Mitchell T. Rozanski

The Listening Sessions in our area are scheduled for: March 19 – St. Rose de Lima Parish – Chicopee April 2 – Blessed Sacrament Parish – Holyoke

April 12 – St. Thomas Parish – West Springfield

The three questions that the participants will be able to share their thoughts on are: 1. What is the Church doing?

2. What is the Church doing but needs improvement? 3. What should the Church be doing?
