15 de Abril de 2018 Tercer Domingo de Pascua

Little Flower Basilica

Holy Hour for Vocations

Hora Santa por las Vacaciones Sunday, April 22 at 11am

Domingo 22 de Abril a las 11am

The purpose of the World Day of Prayer for Voca-tions is to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is continually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that concerns vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreciating all vocations, the Church concentrates its attention this day on vo-cations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to socie-ties of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their di-versity of services and membership, and to the mis-sionary life, in the particular sense of mission "ad gentes." World Day of Prayer will be observed on Sunday, April 22, also known as "Good Shepherd Sun-day." The purpose of this day is to publicly fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest" (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2). Please pray that young men and women hear and respond generously to the Lord's call to the priesthood, diaconate, religious life, societies of ap-ostolic life or secular institutes.

2018 marks the 55th Anniversary of the World

Day of Prayer for Vocations.

Prayer for Vocations God our Father, we thank you for calling men and women to serve in your Son’s Kingdom as priests, deacons, religious, and consecrated persons. Send your Holy Spirit to help us respond generously and courageously to your call. May our community of faith support vocations of sacrificial love in our youth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Amen.

Volunteer Positions Open Many hands make light work more fun!

Volunteer Coordinator: We need an organized leader to help parishioners get

joyfully involved in the Little Flower community. You would lead, oversee, and co-ordinate our volunteer efforts and improve processes for parish organizations and events. You would support volunteer leaders and help improve communications and recruitment to engage parishioners as volunteers.

Assistant Volunteer Coordinator: This person will assist and support the Volun-

teer Coordinator.

Spanish translators: Are you a native speaker with excellent written Spanish? As we work to improve our communica-

tions, we frequently need translations.

Special Events Committee Members: Opportunities continue to increase for the Basilica to host special events and

concerts. We can raise funds, enhance the Basilica’s public profile, support local arts and culture, and serve the commu-nity through these events. This committee will help establish event policies, develop efficient processes, evaluate oppor-tunities, and coordinate with outside organizations.

If you are interested in being included on our committees, please email Anna Migeon at [email protected].

ORDER YOUR PRINT Prints of “The Céline Painting” are for sale to support the Basilica Restoration Project.

On display in the undercroft of the Basilica is one of its most treas-ured works of art. This seven-by-ten-foot oil painting was a gift to the Discalced Carmelite friars of San Antonio from the Discalced Carmelite nuns of Lisieux, France, in 1927. The painting was given along with the nuns’ blessings for the construction of the Basilica, the first national shrine to be built in the US dedicated to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, “The Little Flower.”

The saint’s blood sister Céline Martin, also a nun in the Carmel of Lisieux, created the model for this painting and retouched the face.

Numbered limited-edition linen-stock prints (20"x26") are available in the parish administration office for $40 each. Orders can be shipped for $50 each by calling (210) 735-9126.

Faith Formation News:

Brothers and sisters in Christ, we are happy to share with you the happiness and blessings we have

been witnesses of at our past Easter Vigil. We recall that beautiful glorious night when 18 catechumens

(now known as Neophytes), received the three Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Thus they became full members in the Catholic Church. We congratulate the following:

Congratulations! You have been called by name into full membership in the Catholic Faith; guard it with

your life! We pray with you as you continue to seek Him in your life through the period of Mystagogia,

where you will be strengthened in the fullness of truth. God bless you.
