Bathurst ANZAC Service – Wednesday 25th April

On Wednesday 25th April, children from Bathurst Public School have been invited to join together to

March in the Bathurst ANZAC Day Parade. We would be delighted for the children from our school to

participate in this parade.

As this date falls at the end of the school holidays, parents will be responsible for transport to and from

the parade.

Students and teachers who wish to take part in the March are asked to meet Mrs White at the Bathurst

RSL Club, 114 Rankin St at 9:45am. The children will be assembled into lines and will lead the parade

at 10:10am to the Carillion Service. Students can then be collected at the end of the service from staff

in front of the Court House.

Students will need to wear their full winter school uniform to March in the parade.

Year 5 Opportunity class 2019

Opportunity classes cater for highly achieving academically gifted students who may

otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level.

These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other

gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing

educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined

results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The

Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 1 August 2018.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in

2019, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid

email address (not the student's email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 1 May

2018 at htt ps'//education nsw.gov au/public-schools/selectjve-high-schools-and-

opportunjty-dasses/year-5. The application Website opens on Tuesday 1 May 2018

and closes on Friday 18 May 2018. No late applications will be accepted.

There are no paper application forms. If you do not have internet access, you could

apply at a public library. If you have a disability that prevents you from using a

computer, you can contact t he Unit for assistance after 1 May 2018.

You must submit only ONE application for each student.

Clothing Pool

The clothing pool will be open each Tuesday 2.30pm until 2.50pm or by texting Rebecca on 0405 326

927.

Please send all donations of clothing to the office.

P&C News

MUM’S THE WORD!

Mums can celebrate Mother’s Day twice this year! As

well as making Mum breakfast in bed on Sunday May

13, you can also shout her a famous P&C egg &

bacon burger on Friday May 11 at our annual

Mother’s Day Breakfast BBQ.

Details and order forms will be sent home next term.

We’ll also be holding a P&C Mother’s Day Stall on the

same day. We are looking for donations of small new,

unused or handmade gifts that students can buy from

the stall for $5 or $10, with all profits going back to the

school.

So if you’re cleaning out cupboards over the school holidays and find something you’d like to ‘re-

gift’, put it aside for the stall. We’d also love extra volunteers for both the BBQ and stall so if you

can spare any time to lend a hand, we’ll let you know how to get involved next term.

NEW CANTEEN MENU

We’ve updated our canteen menu for the colder months – see following page.

Next term students can order hot chocolate or noodles at recess and we’ve added butter

chicken with rice for lunch. There have also been a few other changes so make sure you throw

out your old menu and replace it with the new one so your order and money is correct.

We desperately need more volunteers for the school

canteen. The canteen is a not-for-profit service run by the

P&C and is a valuable asset to the school. Volunteers play

a vital role as this helps us keep prices low and allows us to

open the canteen for as many days as possible.

If you can lend a hand, please call 6331 3275 or simply

pop into the canteen any time after 9am on canteen days (closed Tuesday).

SCHOOL HOLIDAY ROAD SAFETY REMINDER

FOR FAMILIES

With the school holidays approaching, daily routines will soon

change. Different play locations and holiday destinations means

different traffic environments.

So to help keep our children safe, families are reminded about

these key road safety points:

Stop, look, listen, think every time you cross the road.

If your child is aged 8 years or younger hold their hand when walking near or across roads. If your child is 9-10 years old always actively supervise them.

It’s the law that everyone wears a helmet when riding a bike in a public place.

It makes sense to wear a helmet when riding scooters and skateboards too!

Click clack front ‘n back every person for every trip. Everyone in the car must be securely buckled up in the right seatbelt or child restraint.

Talk to your child about being a safe road user. Reinforce safe road behaviours by being a good role model! Children learn safe road

behaviours from the adults who care for them. Talk about what you are doing to be safe when near roads, in the car and when riding.

Point out road safety differences and dangers in new environments. This is especially important when on holidays in different surroundings. Roads, footpaths, parks,

carparks, bike tracks and bike lanes may look different in holiday areas.

The best way to keep your child safe is to actively supervise them.

Talk and teach your child about road safety every time you are out an about.

Remind other adults who care for your children to do this too.
