Drama Class

Term 1 Drama classes were off to a stimulating start with robust discussions

of racist issues in Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice” and their

contemporary parallels, culminating in performances with panache at the end

of the term.

In Term 2 we will tackle Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’, shocking and

controversial in its time in 1879, but amazingly prescient of today’s “Me Too”

movement. This class will be a challenge but we will all have great fun

overcoming it!

Any queries, please contact Petah Burns on 0417 671 556

Archery

Come along and enjoy “Archery Come and Try’ for new beginners.

Classes will also continue for an advanced class for continuing archers. Continuing

Archers will need to be or become members of Archery Australia and Bathurst Arch-

ers.

Classes will commence on 27th (beginners) or 28th May.(Advanced)

Any queries, please contact Lyn Vidler on 0422 829 921

Vale Marea Terry Many in U3A will remember Marea Terry from the many years she ably led the

weekly Current Affairs discussion group.

Marea was always well prepared with her collection of newspaper cuttings.

She was much respected for her wide reading and knowledge of the community.

Marea could strongly disagree with someone over some issue yet once the debate

was over she maintained their friendship. She could argue over an issue of policy

but never personally.

An important part of Marea’s identity was her passion for the Labor movement.

She was proud of her father, Dr Lloyd Ross, who was the tireless NSW Secretary of

the Australian Railways Union. Marea had held a senior position as a librarian

before moving to Bathurst in the 1990’s.

Vale Margaret Linton Margaret was a foundation member of Bathurst U3A. She passed away suddenly

on 2nd February this year. She was much admired for her dedication, generosity

and amazing knowledge of Literature. She gave her first Literature course on the

works of Charles Dickens in 1991. Margaret invented “Read and Share” in 2000

instituting one of U3A’s most popular courses. Very quickly extra R&S courses

were needed and ever since there have been two classes per annum.

As well as giving U3A courses for almost 25 years, her great love of art gave her

the energy to be a Gallery Guide. She also volunteered her time leading reading

groups at Ilumba Retirement Village and being the generous person she was, she

always cooked a special afternoon tea for the Ilumba readers.

Margaret is much missed by the U3A family. We extend our gratitude to her

husband Bill who drove and partnered her everywhere.

Come along to enjoy a Cuppa and a Catch Up

We respectfully

remember past

members and

acknowledge

their wonderful

contribution to

Bathurst U3A.
