Dear Parents/Carers
Russ the Bus Stage 2 had a visit from Russ the Story Bus today as part of the
Sydney Writers Festival. This is a tremendous initiative to help
instill a love of reading and illustrating in our kids. Bathurst
West and O’Connell were the only two schools in the Bathurst
region lucky enough to have this opportunity, made even more
exciting by the presence of well-known illustrator and story
teller, Tony Flowers, who had the kids enthralled with his
amazing skills. To top off the experience, every student who
visited Russ was able to take home a quality book of their
choice.
Future Leaders
I was incredibly proud of every one of our 2017 school leader
nominees today as they addressed the school and explained why
they would make a good leader. The amount of effort was
obvious, and they were poised, dignified and respectful (except
when they picked on my jokes)! It is lovely to see courageous
kids who have pride in themselves and their school, and I have
no doubt that each and every one of them would make an
excellent leader. The school community has cast their votes, but
we say well done, no matter the result. Year 6 next year will
once again be a great example to the rest of our students with
these fine leaders in their ranks.
Lots happening
With the end of year fast approaching, the calendar is full with
events and celebrations, including a real highlight in
Presentation Day next Tuesday. Keep a close eye on newsletters,
or better still, get yourself the school’s app by downloading
School Stream and searching for Bathurst West. With regular
reminders and events, you won’t miss a thing!
Successful mini-fete
Well done to all involved in making the mini-fete a fun and
highly successful community event. Year 6 raised over $3500 on
the day, a spectacular effort, which they have decided to put
toward improving Stage 3’s eating and outdoor learning spaces.
Riddle of the week
This week’s riddle is:
I have 24 arms, 10 legs, 1 hand and 4 feet. What am I? (This is a
bit of a trick one!)
Last week’s riddle - The more you give, the smaller I go. The
more you take away from me, the bigger I grow. What am I? – A
hole.
Have a great week,
Darren Denmead
