Class TVAs well as being broadcast on BBC Two, programmes for primary schools are available via the CBBC digital channel.

During term-time, Class TV is on air every weekday between 9am and 1pm, offering teachers and pupils another chance to watch the latest schools programmes from the BBC or to catch an old favourite.

Programmes are shown in two-hour blocks from 9am to 11am,and repeated from 11am to 1pm.

RazzledazzleThis TV series supports children’s language skills, with a particular emphasis on listening and speaking.It’s designed for 3-5 year olds, but it can be used for slightly older children who need literacy reinforcement.

The programmes encourage children to join in with rhymes, songs, movement and simple stories, oftenlinking language with physical movement. Nursery rhymes – both traditional and new – feature regularly.

The oral tradition, with its rhythmic, repetitive and patterned language, is a highlight of the series. Key skillsthat will be developed and supported include: aural attention span, auditory memory and articulation,such as voice and vocabulary development, to help children express and communicate their thoughts,ideas and feelings.

The Big Slam Based on the award winning format of Writing Academy these four programmes explore reading and writing poetry in all its diversity.Aimed at Years 5 and 6, each programme follows a group of children as they discover different forms and genres of poetry on differentthemes, and at the same time, giving them the inspiration to write and perform their own poetry. They receive tips from the bestcontemporary poets who talk about their own approach to writing poetry and they get introduced to a variety of poetic forms ranging from haiku to humour, rap to classic, narrative to nonsense. The programmes will take the audience on an adventure that not only leads to an appreciation of poetry but inspires all children to have a go at writing their own.

Something SpecialWhat makes Something Special so special is that it has beencarefully designed for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 pupils with learning and communication difficulties.

Using a sign language called Makaton, the programmes help thisspecial audience learn how to communicate, as well as developlanguage in a fun and exciting way.

Presenter Justin Fletcher (Tweenies and Tikkabilla) leads children in songs and rhymes, all centred around themes that are familiar to them, including the farm, the seaside, clothes and toys.

But what makes this series extra special is that it is totally inclusiveand invites all children – and their teachers, parents and carers – to learn how to sign and join in the fun.

Justin and Mr Tumble are back with 25 new programmes, introducing children to words and simple 3 word phrases using the signing system Makaton.The programmes introduce themes that are relevant to children with special needs and the curriculum. Five of the programmes are aimed at 5-7 year olds with 3 topic based programmes and 2 specifically designed to help develop language.5 new programmes on nursery rhymes aim to give children access to traditional rhymes and songs with Justin teaching 3 or 4 words round the theme, ‘sing a song’ to reinforce the theme.
