Building has been a big interest this month. The children have been
busy building with blocks inside and outside. They have built a large
boat; many trucks, tractors and ramps and they even built a “whole
world”.
Lately we have been dressing up a lot. In the dress-ups are some pirate
hats. One afternoon the children placed a pirate hat on Melissa’s
head; this started a great pirate adventure! The children all drew pirate
maps and then joined them all together to make one great big one.
They then began their journey, which included many important roles.
They were mermaids, monsters, crewmembers, spies and most
importantly treasure finders!
Mud has been something else the children have been really enjoying in
the hot weather. Mud gloves have been something they have enjoyed
exploring and many mud pies have been beautifully decorated.
Sadly, this is the last bulletin report I will be writing as I have made the
difficult decision to finish up at the end of the year. I will be running my
family day care business from home full time next year. I have
thoroughly enjoyed working in Balmoral for the past four and a half
years. It has been a real pleasure to work in such a friendly and
welcoming community. I could never have wished for more beautiful
families, children and educators to work with. I would like to sincerely
thank every one of these people for making me feel so welcome and
being so supportive. I will take so many treasured memories with me. I
wish you all a very happy Christmas and hope that you’re new year will
be filled with many wonderful things.

Childcare Team Leader
This month at the
Balmoral Early
Learning Centre
As we celebrate our 90th year of
service to the community, on behalf of
the Board and staff of the Bush Nursing
Centre I would like to wish everyone a
very Merry Christmas and all the best
for the holiday period. I thank our
amazing volunteers (and this includes
Board Members and staff) that give so
generously to the Centre. Without your
support our service would simply not
exist.
On reflection, we would love you to
take a moment to “tell us what you
think”. You can do this in person, via
our feedback forms in the waiting
room by phone or by email. All
feedback is useful in assessing the
service so please let us know; good or
bad, happy or sad we want to know. Please make note of our closure days
within this bulletin and we encourage
you to ensure you have your scripts
filled and medication and dressing
supplies stocked up. If you require
community services respite, or
transport over the holiday period, its
helpful if you can organize as early as
possible so we can assist you.

Can you remember the last time you jumped into a swimming pool? For many, swimming
is mainly a bystander sport watching the children from the pool deck!! Now that we have
a wonderful refurnished pool kiosk and change rooms why not come along and utilise this
wonderful facility!! Our aquatic program will commence on:
Tuesday 5th January 2016 and will run for 8 weeks, Tuesday and Friday mornings
from 10 – 11am both days. Cost will be $3.00.
Here are 8 reasons why you should add aquatic exercise to your weekly
schedule:
1. Increase Longevity
2. Become more Physically Fit Sports experts have continually shown that swimming
improves flexibility, muscle tone, muscular balance, endurance and the body’s
circulation.
3. Joint Friendly Aerobic Activity. In waist deep water, the body handles only 50 percent
of its weight. At chest height, the number is reduced to approximately 25-35 percent. Only
10 percent of one’s weight is being used when a person is submerged to their neck.
Aquatic exercises can be performed for a longer period of time since there is less stress on
joints and muscles.
4. Rehabbing from Injury and Illness. The buoyancy factors and the warmth of a thera-
peutic pool provide a great environment for an exercise program geared toward people
recovering from an injury or illness.
5. Decrease risk of illness. Exercising aerobically for 2 ½ hours or more a week has been
proven to lower the risk of chronic medical issues such as diabetes and heart disease.
6. Prevents Overheating. Water disperses heat more efficiently than air. The pool water
continuously cools the body. Exercise in the water is cooler and more comfortable than
being on land.
7. Fun Individual or Group Sport. A person can do a solo workout or join a class. Classes
are an excellent way to socialize and meet new people. Exercising in a pool is a delightful
diversion from a routine exercise program.
8. Improves Psychological Wellbeing. Invigorating aquatic workouts release endorphins
that naturally make a person feel better.
If you are recovering from an injury or trying to get in
better shape, the advantages of an aquatic routine
should not be dismissed. Some may argue that
swimming is more time consuming than other
activities. This is a meaningless excuse. No one wears
their daytime clothes to exercise and then doesn’t
shower afterwards. Take the plunge. Have a great
time enjoying your aquatic exercises.

To celebrate Melbourne Cup we
had numerous sweeps, lots of
winners and everyone enjoyed
having horses to follow. The
collection of tea cups for our high
tea created a lot of interest with
every cup holding its own story
(when, why and how).
To get into the Christmas spirit we
headed to Mt Gambier to Sir
Robert Helpman Theatre. We were
entertained by the South Australia
Police Band. We enjoyed an
extensive repertoire of classic
carols and sing-a-longs, It was a
perfect way to kick off the festive
season.
Balmoral Community Christmas
project, decorating Christmas
boxes for the Christmas tree, have
kept us all very busy over two
Monday afternoons. We are
looking forward to the Christmas
tree arriving in Seymour Park and
showing off all the boxes.
Open Garden and morning tea at
Louise and Robert Guthrie’s on
Tuesday 10th hosted by Brit Brit Red
Cross. A large crowd attended to
see the great work Louise has put
into her garden over last 15 years.
We drove to Portland to see the
Melbourne-based tall ship
Enterprize an exact replica of the
historic ship that brought the first
European settlers to Melbourne in
1835. A history tour of Portland was
also organized for the
afternoon. To end the month we
headed to Hamilton for Party with
the Ponies at the Hamilton Race
Club.
Men’s Shed Refurbished, Opening
was on Thursday 26th November.
The Balmoral Men’s Shed provides
an outlet for people, mostly men
but not exclusively, in the
community to socialise while
working on various projects to
create, build, repair and renovate
articles including furniture and
children’s toys. The Shed benefits
members, community groups and
individuals through the service
they provide, in addition to the
social and mental health benefits
provided to participants through a
sense of belonging and
opportunity to “give back” to the
community.
