8 Points of attention for the specifier

Hydrostop WSM31

- Hydrostop WSM is a hydrophilic, gun-grade sealant;- the hydrophilic properties of Hydrostop WSM display good consistency in swell rate during repeated wet/drycycling;

- expansion of the product on contact with water creates a positive pressure against the faces of the concretejoint, thus preventing the passage of water.

Hydrobar PVC32

- Hydrobar PVC represents a range of high performance water-stops extruded from PVC material designed toprevent the passage of water at both construction and expansion joints in watertight structures;

- the range covers sizes, pre-formed junction pieces and sections depending upon the exact situation.

Kiwa N.V., Technical Assessment Body, represented by Kiwa Ltd. has determined that the manufacturer ofPremcrete Maxiprufe Plus, visited on 2016-05-17 and the manufacturer of Premcrete Maxiprufe 2000, visitedon 2016-05-17) have an effective quality control system in operation cov-ering all aspects required by the BDA Agrément® and the BDA Guideline - BDA Agrément®1. FPC, document control and product testing wereacceptable with sufficient evidence provided in support of the BDA Agrément® Guideline requirements24.

The Quality Systems of the manufacturers cover all clauses required by the BDA Agrément®. Both manufacturersare committed to improving their FPC Quality System and related procedures. Document control and production line procedures were satisfactory with sufficient evidence provided in supportof BDA requirements.All processes inspected in the factories were well organised and there is sufficient space for conducting allprocesses including storage of raw materials and packaging of final products. All area managers and employeesare well trained and confident in executing their respective tasks.

In order to demonstrate that the FPC is in conformity with the requirements of the technical specification described in this Agrément the continuous surveillance, assessment and approval of the FPC will be done in a frequency of not less than once per year by Kiwa Ltd.

1 Waterproofing design- waterproofing systems should be designed by a waterproofing design specialist, such as designers whohave successfully completed the Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) qualificationavailable from the Property Care Association (PCA);

- the System is designed for below-ground vertical and horizontal structural foundation surfaces;- the design of the waterproofing of the earth retaining structure shall be in accordance with BS 81023; - typical applications include backfilled concrete walls, structural slabs, covered rafts, foundations, void-former installations and property line construction; property line construction applications include secant and contiguous piling, skin wall, metal sheet piling, shotcrete and stabilized earth retention walls;

- the System is satisfactory for use as Type A waterproofing and damp proofing protection of below-ground structures Grades 1, 2 and 3 as defined in BS 81023 and the NHBC Standards2;

- the construction shall conform with current Building Regulations, British Standards and relevant Codes ofPractice;

- new concrete should be designed by a Structural Engineer to BS EN 199235,36 to be structurally capablefor the intended use as an earth retaining structure, resisting loading from earth as well as water pressureas recommended within BS 81023;

- the waterproofing of all elements, including walls, floors and foundations, forming below ground structures shall be suitable for their intended use; issues to be taken into account include:a) grade of waterproofing protectionb) waterproofing systems, materials and componentsc) interface with the above ground structured) joints, abutments and service penetrations

- the System and its components shall not remain permanently exposed.

8 Points of attention for the specifier

(continued)

3 Acceptable substrates for Premcrete Maxiprufe PlusWithin the framework of this Agrément the following substrate types are allowed to be waterproofed withPremcrete Maxiprufe Plus (see also the figures in section 9), with due respect to article 8.1 and the NHBCStandards2, reference R3(a), (iv):- concrete blinding- clay Heave Boards- compacted Type 1 Hardcore- removable formwork- sufficiently stable ground such as clay or chalk, free of chemical contamination- rigid insulation - adjacent substructures as permanent formwork- piled cut off walls- property-line construction, where temporary works are used to form the basement excavation (secant piling, contiguous piling, steel sheet piling, diaphragm walling, etc.)

The fitness for purpose of the substrates shall be established according section 10, article 5 of this Agrément.

4 Water tightness- an important property of the Premcrete Maxiprufe Structural Waterproofing System concerns the watertightness;

- the System will resist the passage of water and any other form of moisture or vapour infiltration from theground;

- below-ground structures, waterproofed with the System, when installed in accordance with section 10 ofthis Agrément will lead to a Grade 3 waterproofing and comply with the relevant requirements of the national Building Regulations of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. See also section 11.

5 Chemical resistance- the gelling of sodium bentonite is adversely affected by the presence of electrolytes (particularly trivalentions) and may also be affected by the presence of soluble cations such as those found in chalk or limesoils; in such cases advice shall be sought from the Agrément holder;

- the System is not affected by organic contaminants;- in chemically-contaminated areas the Premcrete Maxiprufe 2000 layer is hydrated by deliberate soakingwith mains water and leaving for two to three hours before pouring the concrete;

- the substrates for Premcrete Maxiprufe Plus shall comply with section 8, article 3 of this Agrément.

6 Resistance to damage- the Premcrete Maxiprufe 2000 barrier is resistant to damage, due to the swelling capacity giving the ability of self-healing if damaged by puncturing or another form of indentation up to isolated damaged areas in the order of 100 mm2;

- the System is resistant to normal site activities; however, to prevent damage from ongoing work, full protection should be temporarily provided to the installed system and removed prior to the installation ofreinforcement.

7 Resistance to loading- the System as installed beneath a below-ground concrete slab will transmit dead and imposed loads tothe ground safely without excessive deformation, provided that it is adequately confined, properly hydrated and not subjected to point loading; for more details see section 10.5;

- in situations where point loading is anticipated, the Agrément holder’s advice shall be sought.

8 Adhesion to concrete- after the casting of the concrete against the System the free ends of the needle-punched fibres of thePremcrete Maxiprufe 2000 layer and of the locking fleece of the Premcrete Maxiprufe Plus layer becomeembedded in the concrete, which gives a permanent bond between the concrete and the System.

9 Behaviour in relation to fire- the System does not prejudice the fire-resistance properties of the building, the waterproofed earth retaining structure being fully covered with earth; therefore, the components of the System will not contribute to the development stages of a fire or present a smoke or toxic hazard;

- when properly installed, the System will not add significantly to any existing fire hazard; the continuity offire resistance must be maintained, as described in the relevant Building Regulations, see section 11 ofthis Agrément.

10 DurabilityUnder normal service conditions the fully protected Premcrete Maxiprufe Structural Waterproofing Systemwill provide a durable waterproof covering for the life of the building in which it is installed.
