Workshop Summary: Beavers and beaver dam analogues (BDAs) are quickly becoming acceptable, cost-effective restoration tools that offer extensive ecosystem benefits. Permitting pathways are evolving to allow for the adaptive management that these dynamic restoration techniques require. This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for those seeking the theoretical understanding and on-the-ground experience to effectively implement BDAs. Join the movement to get beavers and their benefits back on the landscape. When: June 19 th – 22 rd , 2017 June 19 th , 11:00am-5:00pm –Theory of floodplain restoration, ecological and hydro-geomorphic impacts, permitting discussion, and fish passage considerations June 20 th , 9:00am – 4:00pm – Site tour of established BDAs and beaver sites within the Scott River watershed June 21 st , 9:00am – 4:00pm – BDA construction, monitoring parameters, evening social June 22 nd , 9:00am – 3:00pm – BDA construction Where: Historically known as Beaver Valley (aka: Scott Valley, Etna, California) Cost: $495 – Will include workshop fee, lunches & a dinner/drinks (Wednesday evening) Instructors/Faculty: Dr. Michael Pollock, NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center; Dr. Brian Clure, Geomorphologist, NOAA Science and Technology Program; Rocco Fiori, Fiori GeoScience, Engineering Geologist; Jonathan Warmerdam, Permitting Specialist, North Coast Water Quality Control Board; and the team at the Scott River Watershed Council, Betsy Stapleton, Charnna Gilmore, Peter Thamer, and Erich Yokel.
