FOOD FOR THOUGHT
OCTOBER IS RIGHT TO LIFE MONTH

Familiar terminology can lead to diminishing
impact of the true meaning of the actual term. The
same is true of phrases such as “Right to Life”. Many
folks today think only of abortion when they read or
hear “Right to Life”. This is very unfortunate as it
results in the serious issues of suicide prevention,
euthanasia, health care, homelessness and all quality
of life matters being overlooked and left out of the
public consideration.
Abortion itself is the logical starting point for
discussion or consideration of social justice issues for
the obvious reason that without “life” there can be
no justice in this world…all justice issues begin with
life.
One final thought in closing…the term
“abortion” has become so familiar, it has lost much
of the impact it deserves. It has commonly come to
mean; a political, ideological or even legal argument
rather than the termination of a life, the intentional
elimination of a human being created by God, in His
image…which is what it should mean to every
thinking, loving person, most especially Catholics.
THE 27TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parish Family,
A great time was had by those who attended the parish "Welcome Back" parish picnic. I am grateful to
our committee for all their hard work and dedication, especially my Administrative Assistant, Janice Becht, who
chaired the event and as always is so organized and detail oriented! Thank you Janice! Thanks to our youth
volunteers also who helped served food and assisted with the fun and games for the younger children.
October is respect life month and as you can see and as I often preach the dignity of human life is to be
respected at all stages, from conception until natural death. You will see a series of articles helping us to focus
on the value and dignity of EVERY human life! There will also be some literature available from time to time.
Toward that end, Fr. Jim Worth (a good friend and the funny priest who filled in for me when I had Covid)
will be here on Wednesday, October 20 for a reflection and music from 7:30-8:30 pm. Since this is the year of St.
Joseph, Fr. Jim will focus on Joseph as the protector of the Holy Family while incorporating the theme of the
importance of the inherent human dignity of each person. Fr. Jim will play the piano and sing (his voice is far
better than mine), as well as offer some reflection on the dignity and respect for all human life. So, mark your
calendars, bring your friends, this is free, it's a part of our Re-opening, welcome back, our Vine and Branches.
We will also be inviting our deanery parishes, Lodi, Fair Lawn, Garfield, and Saddle Brook. Do make an
effort to attend as I think Fr. Jim will offer some good insight and reflections for us to ponder.
Peace and Blessings,
Fr. Rich
