e AHFMR Polaris Award will support a comprehensive
theoretical and empirical research eort proposed by
Dr. McNaughton in the eld of brain dynamics, information
coding, computation, and memory that will complement
ongoing research at the University of Lethbridge’s Canadian
Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience. e Award will
support Dr. McNaughton’s relocation from the University
of Arizona to the University of Lethbridge to join the
renowned behavioural neuroscience team headed by
Dr. Bryan Kolb and Dr. Rob Sutherland. As well, the Award
will also support the recruitment of a research team of
junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students,
and the establishment of an advanced facility for neural
ensemble recording and cellular-level functional brain
imaging. In this way the AHFMR Polaris Award will
catalyze provincial, national, and international research
collaborations in the field of behavioral, systems, and
computational neuroscience, that will yield knowledge
and innovation for the benefit of Albertans and people
around the world, and train the next generation of
scientists in this field.
Potential graduate students and post-doctoral trainees
with interest and established skills in systems or cellular
neurophysiology, or computational, molecular, or imaging
approaches to studying integrative functions of the brain,
should send their CVs and letters of interest to
Dr. McNaughton at [email protected]
The Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR) Polaris Award was created to
recruit world leaders in health science research to Alberta. This ten-year, $10 million award has
been matched through a partnership with the University of Lethbridge and the Informatics
Circle of Research Excellence (iCORE) for a total of $20 million.
Congratulations to Dr. Bruce McNaughton,
the inaugural winner of Alberta’s AHFMR Polaris Award
