We want to thank all of our parents and students that attended our parent conferences in October. You should have received your students 1st quarter progress report during the conferences. If you were unable to attend, the progress report was sent home with your student. Practice for our winter sports has begun. Our wrestlers and girls and boys basketball teams are hard at work to prepare for the upcoming season. We are excited to be hosting some of our community Veterans for Veteran's Day on November 14th. We are excited to honor these guests! As a reminder, students will not be in school November 21st - 23rd. School will resume on November 26th. Have a great month! Go Bears! Winter Weather The Independence School District has procedures in place in the event of inclement weather. If the District cancels school, notification will be provided through the use of School Messenger automated phone/email system from the superintendent to the first contact listed in PowerSchool. In addition to the automated call and email, you can visit www.isdschools.org, Independence School District Facebook, Twitter, and/or listen to watch area news media. Tutoring buses will be running on Tuesday and Thursday after school. Your student must have a tutoring bus pass in order to ride our buses. Please visit/call our office to set your student up with a tutoring bus pass.

Bingham At hlet ics Inform at ion

Our winter sports pract ices started on October 29th. Winter athlet ics include wrest ling and gir ls/boys basketball. As a reminder, all students part icipat ing in sports need to have a current physical on f ile and uploaded to PRIVIT. If you have quest ions about PRIVIT or our fall sports program, please feel free to contact our athlet ic director, Mr. Bieser at 816-521-5490.

Bingham PTSA

Support our students and teachers by joining PTSA. PTSA memberships are only $6.oo per person. PTSA meet ings will be on the 4th Thursday of each month.

We want to thank all our students, parents, and staff that helped sell chocolate bars for our fundraiser. If your student has not turned in their money for the chocolate bars, they need to do that as soon as possible. As a reminder, open boxes cannot be returned, and students/parents are responsible for selling the box.

Thank you to all those students that at tended our October PTSA mixer. This was a great event with a huge turnout .

Middle School Credit s Rem inder

As a reminder, students must earn at least 4.5 out of 6 credits dur ing the 2018-2019 school year. Students not earning the minimum credits may be required to at tend summer school or lose an elect ive class the following year to take credit recovery classes.

8th grade students that do not earn 4.5 out of 6 credits will not be allowed to take summer classes at the high school for credit purposes. Students will be required to at tend the summer school at the middle level in order to earn back his/her credit .

Bingham Bears Team New sTeam 7-1 News

In Science, students are explor ing galaxies, stars, and constellat ions. Science students will also t ie in myths when discussing galaxies. In ELA, students have begun the second unit which is Literary Analysis and Informat ional wr it ing, as well as, "A Christmas Carol". Students are looking forward to the f ield t r ip on Wednesday, December 5th. Math classes are f inishing simplifying equat ions. Students are doing a fantast ic job as mathemat icians. Social Studies classes will be complet ing the history of Ancient Greece next week. Social Studies classes will be studying Ancient Rome, including the beginnings of Christ ianity. Please check your student 's supplies. They need a writ ing utensil and agenda on a daily basis. We enjoy having the kids! They are really a great ...

Team 7-2 News

Thank you Corporate Copy Print for the Student of the Month signs!

In Social Studies, students will be moving out of Ancient Greece and into Ancient Rome. We will be studying Roman daily life, gladiators, and more.

In ELA, we are current ly working on our Literature Analysis Unit with our emphasis r ight now on "A Christmas Carol".

Math students will begin solving equat ions using skills learning in Chapter 3 (combining like terms & dist r ibut ive property). A major emphasis will be placed on showing work correct ly. Students need to have a basic calculator and colored pencils in class the month of December. Check with your student for basic school supplies as well, many are without needed supplies (pencils, pen, spiral, notebook paper).

Team 7/8-3 News

Mrs. Ewald (7th ELA) 7th grade students are in the middle of reading "A Christmas Carol". While the pr imary focus of this unit is analysis, students have been reviewing literary elements and talking about how the history of Victor ian England affected the story as Charles Dickens wrote it .

Mrs. Groesbeck (8th ELA) 8th graders will be writ ing or iginal themat ic statements over a var iety of texts and using

textual evidence as support in short literary essays. Inter im test ing and STAR test ing will begin in very ear ly December.

Mr. Johnson (Math) 8th graders are working on exponent rules and scient if ic notat ion. 7th graders are working on combining like terms and simplifying expressions. We will test before Thanksgiving break.

Mrs. Asm ussen (Science) 8th grade is studying how body systems work together and will be present ing their body systems project m id-November. 7th grade is studying scale and the universe.

Mr . Passanisi (Social Studies) 8th grade is current ly working on the Causes and Effects of the American Revolut ion. 7th

grade is f inishing the civilizat ion of Ancient Greece and moving into the Roman Republic.

Mrs. Wescot t /Ms. Mitchem- ELA: In ELA, we have begun our Macabre unit . We have learned about Edgar Allan Poe and have read The Tell Tale Heart. We will cont inue reading Poe's works along with others in the Macabre genre. Our literary focuses will be on mood, tone, and theme. We cont inue to have vocabulary weekly (except dur ing short weeks), and a grammar skill focus every other week.

Mr. Chaney-Science: In Science, students will cont inue learning about the human body and will be present ing on their body system topics.

Ms. Dieker- Social Studies: Students are f inishing up their unit on American Revolut ion. We will then start our unit on the format ion of the US Government .

Mrs. Kratzer-Math: Students will f inish out the semester working with exponents, square and cube roots, and scient if ic notat ion. This will provide students with an understanding of how very large or very small quant it ies can be expressed in a simple form.

In Social St udies we are in t he m idst of our Revolut ionary War unit .St udent s are learning t o look at m ult iple sources of a hist or ical eventt o decide what really happened. Af t er Thanksgiving, we w il l begin our Const it ut ion unit .

St udent s w rapped up Unit 1, Invest igat ive Journalism and a shor t unit on poet ry in ELA. We have m oved int o Unit 2, Lit erary Analysis, which involves a focus on analyzing Craf t & Them e. Ask your st udent s t o show you som e of t heir w r it ings on Google Classroom .

8t h Grade Mat h: we have already dove headf irst int o exponent s and w il l be st ar t ing Scient if ic Not at ion. Algebra: we are in t he m iddle of our last unit , Syst em s of Equat ions & Inequalit ies.

In Science, we have been work ing hard on t he var ious syst em s in our bodies. St udent s were asked t o creat e and present a project based on one of t he syst em s - ask your st udent t o show you t heir project !

Updat ed St udent Handbook

The Independence School Dist r ict has revised the middle level handbooks into a single handbook to represent and reflect each of our four m iddle school campuses. The revised version can now be located on the dist r ict website for your convenience.
