MASS INTENTIONS FOR THE WEEK

ST. JOSEPH’S MEN’S ANNUAL RETREAT!!! SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 1-2 PRIESTFIELD RETREAT CENTER MIDDLEWAY, WEST VIRGINIA

St. Joseph Men’s Society Annual Retreat--Time is drawing short to make reservations for the annual Men’s Society Retreat, which is sponsored by the St. Joseph Men’s Society. The retreat is open to all men of the parish. This year we are honored to have as our Retreat Leader, Fr. Bernard Tickerhoof, T.O.R. The theme of the retreat will be “Living a Catholic Life in the 21st Century.” For more details, call Bob Grillo at 703-471-5689. The retreat center is 10 MILES OUTSIDE OF Charlestown, West Virginia. GOD BLESS.

Peace and good! As the Church continues to celebrate the canonization of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, I thought it would be a good opportunity to reflect upon some of the favorites quotes of the saint.

When you know how much God is in love with you then you can only live your life radiating that love. (A Simple Path, 1995)

Let us not use bombs and guns to overcome the world. Let us use love and compassion. (In the Heart of the World, 1997)

Yesterday is gone and tomorrow has not yet come; we must live each day as if it were our last so that when God calls us we are already, and prepared, to die with a clean heart. (A Simple Path, 1995)

I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.

Be kind to each other in your homes. Be kind to those who surround you. I prefer that you make mistakes in kindness rather than that you work miracles in unkindness. Often just for one word, one look, one quick action, and darkness fills the heart of the one we love. (Love, a Fruit Always in Season)

Seeking the face of God in everything, everyone, all the time, and his hand in every happening; this is what it means to be contemplative in the heart of the world. Seeing and adoring the presence of Jesus, especially in the lowly appearance of bread, and in the distressing disguise of the poor. (In the Heart of the World)

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. (Essay, Santa Clara University, 2012, August)

Holiness is not the luxury of the few; it is simply a duty. (Address to National Prayer Breakfast, 1994, February) The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. (A Simple Path)

Saint Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us! In the peace of Francis of Assisi,
