GROVES The scene ofdestruction in Bridge City left fromHurricane Ike is something that itsresidents have to see day in and
day out as they move toward
recovery and restoration.First Baptist Church in Groves is
hoping to ultimately improve theirscenery a bit by helping withcleanup efforts.
On Oct. 5, the church wants to
send out teams of volunteers from
all across Mid-County to aid theBridge City residents in an effortthat is being called Mid-CountyKindness.
At a press conference Thursday,First Baptist Church pastor Joe
Worley brought together city lead-
ers from Nederland, Port Neches,Groves and Bridge City for what hecalled a consolidated effort.

Hurricane Ike was on the mindsof Beaumont school districttrustees as they approved fundingfor emergency repairs and employ-ee back pay.
However, trustees did notaddress what the hurricane couldmean for students in the long run.

Norma Rubin of High Island hasntgiven up hope that her son, HermanPeeWee Thomas Moseley, will be
found.She last heard from him Sept. 12.
He was still at his Gilchrist home asthe storm surge from Hurricane Ike
was rising.Only a few homes remain intact in
Gilchrist.
Were still not giving up, saidRubin, 66, whose home in HighIsland also was destroyed by Ike.
