FROM THE PRESIDENT Welcome to the July Newsletter. With half the year gone and only 21 weeks to Christmas (I don’t mean to shock you) it’s time to start thinking about Santa.

Speaking about Santa, our Christmas in July at Branxton was a great day out. We had 41 to start off with, but due to illness, 37 boarded the coach (our first coach trip) for a fun filled day. I must say a big thank you to Yolanda and Barry for allowing us to park in the paddock for the day and there was no parking fee! All our future coach trips will leave from their property.

Our first cheese and wine gathering was well-attended by 27 wine buffs. Thank you to Lesley and Norrie for hosting the first evening at their home and selecting a super Restaurant for dinner.

We have had two members interested in starting a Tennis Group (look for the information in the Newsletter). The Convenor for this group will be Lyn Armstrong and Bev Potter. The other Interest Group is “Decadent Day Trippers” on a P.E.T. (Pensioner Excursion Ticket) for $2.50. The Convenors are Allan Collins and Stephen Thomas. A presentation and outline for this group will be made at the August meeting.

I hope by the August meeting that you have all read the “Draft Standing Resolution” and have your questions ready for the meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, could you please forward your proxy to me – [email protected].

At the last Committee meeting, membership was approved for 10 new members, this will bring us to 110 members which is close to our capacity of 120, not bad for a new club.

Hope to see you at the August meeting on the 2nd August.

Keep safe and stay healthy.

Kerry

My thought for the month

No one ever damages their

eyesight looking on the

Brighter side of Life Anonymous

I BELIEVE That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.

That no matter how good a friend is, they’re going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

That just because someone doesn’t love you the way you want them to, doesn’t mean they don’t love you with all they have.

That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

That sometimes when I’m angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn’t give me the right to be cruel.

That it isn’t always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.

That no matter how bad your heart is broken, the world doesn’t stop for your grief.

That the people you care about most in life are taken from you much too soon.

That life is more precious than money will ever be able to be.

Anytime you see more negative than positive check your own heart!

ATTENDANCE AT MEETINGS

In view of the fact that we are fast approaching our target of 120 Club Members, the Management Committee feel it incumbent upon them to remind all members of a relevant clause in our Constitution.

Clause 3 (i) reads as follows:

“ Membership  of  this  club  shall  be  contingent

upon attendance at  regular meetings of not  less

than  fifty  per  cent  in  any  club  year,  subject  to

leave  of  absence  in  cases  of  sickness  or  on  any

  other reasonable grounds.”

Whilst  not  wishing  to  apply  undue  pressure,  it  is

important  that we  do  not  preclude  any  person  from

joining  our  club  whilst  continuing membership  when

somebody may have decided that it is “not for them”.

Your understanding is appreciated.

THANK YOU

All members in attendance at the last meeting joined Yolanda when she moved a Vote of Thanks to Miep Pronk who has so efficiently set up and provided Morning Tea for our meetings each month.

Thank you so very much Miep.

OUTINGS CONVENOR REPORT

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

The day started early when we all meet at Yolanda and Barry's who we must thank for the car park—all 37 of us had a fun trip up to Branxton where we enjoyed a good meal, party hats and Val on the dance floor Whooping it up. You go girl friend.

The trip up provided lots of

laughter and chatting while coming home, all a bit sleepy after a few wines!!!

I would like to thank Kerry and Joy for all their hard work making the day the success it was, we all enjoyed our Christmas treats. I have very big shoes to fill so I hope I can.

Alex our driver got us all home safe and sound. Hopkinsons Bus Company gave a lucky seat number a refund of the price to go to Branxton so thank you to them.

I look forward to seeing many of you for our next adventure to Glossodia to the Guide Dogs Centre on Wednesday 14th August. As we are now car pooling we need to meet at 62 Guntawong Road, Rouse Hill at Yolanda and Barry's home at 9.15 am to depart 9.30 sharp.

Another thank you to Lesley and Norris for holding our first of many Wine and Cheese nights and on to a lovely Thai dinner even if some took the scenic route and arrived a little late!! Good food, lots of fun and friendship enjoyed by everyone.

Oh! I will be away off to Hamilton Island all in the name of research!!

ART GROUP OUTING

The Art Group Outing in July was a bit of a disappointment, as no-one joined me. I viewed the Sydney Moderns exhibition on my own, but had some delightful chats with other viewers. The exhibition was excellent and so much more than I expected. There were about twelve painters represented and quite a few paintings were outside the period described, some as late as 1953. The works were varied and beautiful, including landscapes, still-life, the City, Cubism. abstracts and an intriguing display of connections between colour and music by Roland Wakelin and Roy de Maistre. All I can say is "you should have been there!" There will be no Art Group Outing in August as Barry and I will take a short trip to Canberra, where we will take in the Turner from the Tate Exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia. Please contact me with suggestions of what you'd like to do or see as part of the Art Group. If you like we can just meet at the Town Centre for coffee and a social chat. Cheers, Yolanda Seach

LUCKY DOOR PRIZE JUNE MEETING

The incredibly lucky recipient of our Lucky Door Prize at the June Meeting was Margaret Collins who received her prize from Elva Evans who we are sorry to learn is not very well as I write this article.

All the best Elva as we need you “up and running” in time for our August Meeting as we can’t survive without our barrel girl in attendance.

PROPOSED MOVIE MORNING

There will be a form at our next meeting where those who have an interest in joining in a Movie Morning at Reading Cinemas, Rouse Hill on the last Thursday of each month (or bi-monthly) starting 29th August.

Should you have an interest in this group please add your name and contact number to this list.

Many thanks Veronica Filtness.

ITCHY PARTS!

A female dwarf goes to a doctor complaining of an embarrassing itch in the groin area.

The doctor looks her up and down, picks her up and stands her on his desk. He lifts up her skirt and puts his head under. A little perplexed, she hears snip, snip, snip, snip.

The doctor emerges from under her skirt. "How's that?" he asks? "Well, it's a lot better actually" she says: "but it's still there."

Undaunted, he dives back under her skirt. Snip, snip, snip, snip. Out he comes. "How's that?" he asks again more confident. "That's wonderful! What did you do?" she asked.

"I trimmed the top of your Ugg boots."

AUGUST BIRTHDAYS

Following the month of July, when we had eleven birthdays, August is also a very popular month, as we have another eleven members who will celebrate this month.

JUSTICE OF THE PEACE

We all know how difficult it can be to find a Justice of the Peace when we need one. Then we have to co-ordinate mutually convenient timing and it often proves to be a matter of great frustration.

Well! Our member and friend, Rob Milligan, has offered this service to our members who make like to take advantage of his kind offer to sign documents at our monthly meetings.

Thank you Rob for this kind gesture.

AUGUST GUEST SPEAKER

The Guest Speaker at our August Meeting will be Mr Ian Hay, a member of Glenhaven Probus Club, who has set up a company known as Anzac Battlefield Heritage Tours to specifically promote tours of the Historic Battlefields of Gal-lipoli, Belgium and France where the legend of the Aussie and Kiwi soldiers was created during World War I.

Ian will share his knowledge and interest with us all.

NEW INTEREST GROUP

CHEESE & WINE EVENING

Last Thursday evening a group of just under 30 members met at our home at Kellyville where we all enjoyed cheese, wine and the company of friends for a couple of hours before adjourning to a nearby restaurant where we partook of a Thai meal which, I am confident, was enjoyed by all.

This was the first of what we hope and trust will become a monthly event to be hosted by volunteer members who are willing to open their home for a very “low key” evening of friendship, enabling members to gather in an informal setting.

Oh Dear! Where was Barry when we needed him?

Thank you to all for their attendance and to those who sent e-mails after the event we thank you too.

THE NEXT ONE

Will be held at the home of:

Joy and Kerry Fink 74 New North Rocks Road NORTH ROCKS

‘Phone: 9871 8062

The date: 20th August 2013

A sheet will be provided on the Outings Table at the next meeting for you to indicate your interest by adding your name to the list, so rush in early as we anticipate this event will be very popular.

JULY GUEST SPEAKER

Our Guest Speaker at the July Meeting was Ron Miller, a well known member of our Club who gave a very interesting presentation about the Pyramids of Egypt.

I am sure that we are all a lot w i s e r r e g a r d i n g t h e construction of these amazing monoliths of the ancient world.

R o b M i l l i g a n thanked Ron for his well informed address.

A LESSON IN LIFE

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realise how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discov-ered the bird under the pile of cow dung and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story: Not everyone who s......s on you is your enemy. Not everyone who get you out of s..... is your friend. And when you’re in deep s....., it’s best to keep your mouth shut!

Page 9: BEAUMONT HILLS PROBUS CLUB€¦ · OUTINGS CONVENOR REPORT CHRISTMAS IN JULY The day started early when we all meet at Yolanda and Barry's who we must thank for the car park—all

It’s here, it’s on, to Springfield House we all go No more talk just put on the show We arrive and park then into the house The girls the boys and some with a spouse Champagne and soft drinks and perhaps an hors-d’oeuvre A chat and small talk or a gesture with verve

The tables are ready we go in and sit down The “centre piece” Kerry made obviously the crown Meeting new Probus people this night will allow You’ve seen them before but you’ll know them better from now The excellent duo started with music so light This music will get louder as we go through the night

The main course is served either chicken or beef All nice and tender to sink in your teeth Oh, oh the sweets are fattening apple pie or a mousse Most just said stuff it’ll let it hang loose Kerry and Joy had purchased or cadged some prizes Eighteen selections in all big and small sizes It’s hard getting money Kerry said try as we might Val Berry our Treasurer is really quite tight

The dancing started we could see Lyn and John Jiving and raving just getting it on Anne and Ray jumped on the dance floor and showed a new trick Ray’s dancing miracle he chucked out his stick If you’re in trouble and not feeling fit Our Ron has a portable medical kit

Of all the world’s barrel ladies Elva’s the best She whips out those tickets with power and zest

Barry takes photos with love and with care His artistic brilliance in which we can share

Norrie danced with anyone except with his wife But danced with her later this saved his life Bert won the hairdressing prize and that was just fine Did he want a perm or a style “nah! Just give me a shine”

Whoops! The nutbush came on and caused a big roar As dozens of sexy chicks invaded the floor Karate kicks and side steps took over control Movements to maim someone the obvious goal

The YMCA invited the men up to perform They got up and proceeded to rave up a storm Kerry was smooth and Theo was fast Norrie and John were creative Bert was outclassed The time moving on it was getting quite late Most of us oldies are in dreamland round about eight

Yolanda our first president said in a speech From small numbers our Probus is near out of reach Marie won tim-tams in the old weight a pound I’ll miss out Bob. Marie cried as she handed them round Bob Hayhow back from holiday held onto the table and trims He said the plane journey had given him wobbly limbs

Thanks to Joy and Kerry for an exceptional show For the hard work and effort we should let them know Did we all have a good time did we all have some fun Meeting new people this night you all must have won If you answer these questions with a “yes” that is fine So goodnight and best wishes we’ll see you next time.

SPRINGFIELD HOUSE Bert Berry’s poetic memory of our Anniversary Dinner

In view of the fact that we have great people with great ideas who are willing to organize Interest Groups for our club I can no longer fit the names and contact numbers for the leaders on the same page as the Manage-ment Committee and other Key Contacts, so from this month on they will have their own page for you to peruse and hopefully decide that at least one of these Groups is “FOR YOU”!
