Beauvais Lake Landforms By Teigen
Land forms
A landform is a feature on the Earth's surface that is part of the terrain, such as mountains, hills, and plains.
Beauvais Lake
Beauvais Lake
Beauvais lake is 2.5km long and is 4.6km wide, making an area of 11.5km squared. Its has a volume of 3.8 million meters cubed and a depth of 10.7m. The park was created in 1940, but didn’t include the lake, which became part of the park in 1959.
Ridges
Ridge
The ridges in Beauvais lake were formed by plate tectonics, which are when huge bits of the Earths crust (called tectonic plates) move and crash into each other. This sometimes forms mountains but it also forms volcanoes, earthquakes, and islands.
Outcrop
Outcrop
The outcrops in Beauvais Lake were originally sandstone, which is a type of rock that is made of sand that a long time ago was crushed into solid rock by the weight of the earth. Then giant pieces of moving ice called glaciers moved through the area and took some of the rock with them. Eventually, this resulted in the outcrops you see today.
Gully
Gullies
Gullies can look like valleys or canyons, but are only about 10 meters wide or deep. They are caused by erosion, which is when natural things like water or wind remove soil, rock, or other dissolved material.
Land Forms
Thinking about landforms might seem a scientific endeavour but not a bad thing to ponder for a few moments. The land forms we have at Beauvais are what give us what we enjoy so much in this small lake with the multiple converging ecosystems and the immense diversity of accompanying life forms.
Enjoy the land forms.
