Issue 2
New East West CorridorProposal
Almost since its inception, BeCA hasbeen ghting to have improved access tothe estate. As was common practice ofthe former Caloundra Council, new devel-opments were regularly built with justthe one entry/exit road. Just ask the resi-dents of Ridgewood Rd who still to this
day have only one entry/exit. Other local
residential estates suered the sameshortfall in their planning.
To further complicate the situation inBellvista/Bells Reach, Council approvalwas given to build a 1400 student schoolon the estate despite there being butone entry/exit roadway. One shudders tothink what the situation could be like inan emergency!
So roadways and access to the estatehave been hot topics for BeCA. Now
Stockland is at last building a second en-try access to our estates. That they areunable to sell one block of land in Caloun-dra South until this access road is built(to allow for Caloundra South construc-tion vehicles) This is a strong incentivefor Stockland to complete this road assoon as possible.
Eventually the Bells Creek ArterialRoad will travel all the way from the Cor-bould Park roundabout to the new RoysRoad interchange on the Bruce Highway,
regretfully this extension is not due forcompletion until around 2025 or later andis staged according to land sales triggerpoints.
This is all part of an agreement ham-mered out between Stockland and the
March Volume 2016
State Government. Being a ‘state’ road, the Sunshine Council had minimal inputinto this section of the agreement.
That this road could have been complet-ed earlier would have meant some traccould have been removed o the busyBruce Highway sooner rather than laterand allowed many residents to shortentheir daily commute by car between theSunshine Coast and Brisbane.
As Caloundra Rd reaches saturationpoint, any move to upgrade that roadsends the dollar cost signs spinning!
A connecting road between PelicanWaters Blvd and Bellvista Blvd is alsomooted to be eventually built by the stateGovernment in approximately 12 years.
Then Pelican Waters/Golden Beachtravellers could drive along the proposedroad, connect into the Bellvista Blvd andconnect with the rst stage of the BellsCreek arterial road, or eventually turn left
and follow the still to be built Bells CreekArterial Road and enter the Bruce Highwayat the Roys Rd Interchange.
Only then (in 12 years time) would therebe a second east west corridor road con-necting the southern end of the SunshineCoast with the Bruce Highway.
If the connecting road between PelicanWaters Blvd and Bellvista Blvd Extensionwere built now, an interim solution to re-moving trac from Caloundra Road soon-er rather than later would allow PelicanWaters/Golden Beach trac to travel theproposed road, then Bellvista Blvd Exten-sion and link into the soon to be complet-ed Stage 1 of the Bells Creek Arterial andemerge onto Caloundra Rd at the Cor-bould Park roundabout in the short term.
This would be an advantage to Bellvista,Bells Reach and Arbour residents and pro-vide an alternative to Caloundra Roadeither heading east or west.
Earlier this week there was an informalmeeting involving representatives or BeCA,Jason Hunt, The Golden Beach ProgressAssociation and the Sunshine Coast Rate-payers Association (Southern) to discussthe merits of a new road between Bellvista
Blvd Extension and Pelican Waters Blvd.
If the project was welcomed by the threegroups then they would consider whatpressure could be brought to bear on bothmajor political parties and have the con-struction of a Pelican Waters Blvd/BellvistaBlvd Extension brought forward.
As an outcome of this informal meeting itwas proposed that a meeting be requestedwith Regional representatives and plannersfrom the Department of Main Roads todetermine what kind of impact such a pro-
posal would have on Pelican Waters Blvdtrac movements.
The creation of yet another roundabouton that road was not seen as desirable. Ifthe three local community groups believedthis new road was a worthwhile issue, theycould join forces to bring the issue to theattention of both sides of State Govern-ment and seek a commitment.
Jason Hunt has previously arrangedmeetings with State Government repre-sentatives and BeCA to have discussions
both locally and in Brisbane relating totrac issues on Bellvista Blvd and Caloun-dra Road.
Cr Baberowski is a supporter of bringingthis project forward, however this is a StateGovernment responsibility.

More Trac Discussions Representatives from BeCA met with
local MP Mark McArdle and others onTuesday March 9th to discuss several pro-posals designed to improve the movementof trac on Caloundra Rd and into Caloun-dra itself. These roads below focus on the
township itself and is only a section of thelarger maps available on our website.Projections have been estimated regard-
ing future trac growth along CaloundraRoad.

The major trac problem is trac travel-ling along Caloundra Rd into the townshipof Caloundra itself, particularly after leav-ing the Nicklin Way/Caloundra Rd rounda-bout. It seems quite obvious there is aneed for alternative entry roadways intothe Caloundra Township.
The map (right) has some suggestionson how this can be achieved.
BeCA’s First Public Meetingof the New Year
Around 40 residents & guests were inattendance at the Bellvista Meeting Placefor the rst BeCA Public Meeting of 2016.Sunshine Coast Council’s Mel Fergusongave a presentation on the Sunshine

would go.The State Government has a road re-
serve in place but any construction is notexpected to begin before 2028.
BeCA is hoping to join with SunshineCoast Ratepayers and Golden Beach Pro-gress Association to provide a combinedcommunity voice on this issue.

ence into the future and he is an advocateof Technology Based Industries, whilstworking with the Sunshine Coast Universi-ty to develop new commercial opportuni-ties for Queensland.

Some Clarications The photo (right) provides a further
update on the progress of construction of
the bridge across the Lamerough Creek.
Eventually it will connect with the new
Bells Creek Arterial road currently under
construction beginning at the Caloundra
Rd roundabout near the Corbould Race-course. The dirt road in the foreground is
the “Haul Road”.
The arrangements for lot sales in
Caloundra South and the completion of
the Stage 1 of the Bells Creek Arterial have
been claried for BeCA.
BeCA understands that sales for blocksjust south of Bellvista, Bells Reach andArbour will be available shortly for thosewishing to buy ‘o the plan’.The extension of Bellvista Boulevard
south into Aura will be required to becompleted prior to the rst stages beingregistered.
Builders will be able to commence con-struction as blocks register, which is fore-cast towards the end of the year.
The internal connection road to BellsCreek Arterial is not required to be com-pleted for rst stages to be registered andconstruction of homes to commence.
Builders’ trac will utilise Bellvista
Boulevard once this road is completed.
No builders trac will be able to utilise
the haul road from Caloundra Industrial
Estate due to HSE risks.
Completion of the Bells Creek Arterial
Road is required to be completed by June
2017 however is forecast to be completed
by the end of 2016, prior to any new home
being occupied in Caloundra South.
At this stage sometime around Octoberis the earliest road construction could becompleted according to early estimates.
Weather will play a major role in theeventual completion date of Stage 1 of
the Bells Creek Arterial.

Over the next 12 months or so, Stockland
will stage its move from the current Sales
Oce site at Bells Reach, to Aura.
Sunshine Coast Council has taken over the process of maintaining some parks,
gardens and pathways etc) in Bells Reach
with the continued assistance and input
from Stockland.
BeCA thanks Councillor Rick
The BeCA President Les Thomas thanked
Cr Rick Baberowski for his eorts while
Councillor over the past three years.
Cr Baberowski’s eorts in assisting with the
removal of the vast majority of repetitive
circuits by helicopters from above our
homes, the Bellvista meeting Place facility,
his contributions to the planning of Caloun-
dra South and the eventual construction of
a second/entry exit for the estates as his
major achievements for this community.
Smaller issues such as missing pathways,
bus stops, shade over play equipment &
new pathways were also acknowledged.
Then there were the occasions when he
had assisted residents with individualissues and these eorts had been greatlyappreciated.
Cr Baberowski who was re-elected atthe Council elections on March 19th, pro-vided a quick update on issues fromCouncil and made a presentation to thosein attendance on his achievements todate.
He predicted that the new Bells Creek
Arterial road (or an alternative) would bebuilt through to the Bruce Highway soon-er rather than later.
He believes that as Caloundra Southgrows, new residents wishing to travel toBrisbane will not accept driving north toCaloundra Rd, along that road to theBruce Highway, and then turning south.
When this has a detrimental eect onhouse lot sales, Stockland will be encour-aged to build a new connection throughto the Bruce Highway.
We also wish to acknowledge that Mark
McArdle has kindly agreed for us to print
our regular Newsletter ‘The Connector’ in
his Caloundra oce.

The red coloured road is the Bells CreekArterial, Stage 1 currently under construc-tion and expected to be completed late
2016.The orange coloured road will be the
interim connection road between the end
of Bellvista Blvd and Bells Creek ArterialStage 1 until the larger Bells Creek Arterial
No new homes in Aura (CaloundraSouth) can be occupied until the red and
orange sections have been completed andconnected to the southern end of the
turquoise coloured Bellvista Blvd.
BeCA is currently lobbying for a con-necting road from where the orange and
turquoise roads meet, across to PelicanWaters Blvd.
This road is in state government plansbut it is not expected to be built for an-other 12 years or so.
BeCA believes bringing forward the con-struction of this road would provide somerelief to trac congestion along BellvistaBlvd and Caloundra Rd.
The yellow spot DC just near the orangeoval sign “Internal Connection Road” indi-cates where a shopping centre (or District
Centre) approximately the size of the cur-rent Currimundi Shopping Centre will bebuilt.
The green spot marked NS (and nearthe DC spot) are the sites for two newstate schools, one is expected to be pri-mary, the other secondary. 2018 is moot-ed as a possible opening date for a P -6school.
