** Whenever bed rails are used as part of any hospital or homecare bed system, the potential for bed rail entrapment exists. To reduce this risk, a patient must always be assessed regarding their risk of entrapment before any product is used. Routine patient monitoring is also required once a product is in use. To learn more about the risk of bed rail entrapment please visit the US FDA’s website at http://www.fda.gov and search for “Bed Rail Entrapment.”

Pinch Point Mitigation Bed deck redesigned to mitigate risk of pinching by such means as moving susceptible parts in 8" from edge of bed

Improved Patient Entrapment Mitigation

Gap from head board to rail must be less than 60 mmGap from foot board to rail must be less than 60 mm or greater than 318 mmGap between split rails must be greater than 318 mm Top of rails must be at least 8.7" (220 mm) above mattress

Patient Control Pendant Increased button size to improve patients’ ease of use Symbols were redesigned to more user-friendly designs

Enhanced Stability Test 4 locking casters to aid in bed stability

Labeling Mattress, rail, patient weight and safe working load

* When used as part of any homecare bed system, the international standard is put in place to ensure patient safety and durability of all medical beds. Key elements include differentiation by application environment, changes in the gaps and clearances of side rails to minimize entrapment (calculated using the 5th percentile of an adult female head, neck and chest dimensions), increased durability of side rails, enhanced safety instructions and warning labels.
