LEGEND Granitoid dyke: pink to grey, fine grained to coarse grained and locally pegmatitic; homogeneous, massive, 0-20% muscovite, 0-3% biotite, 0-3% tourmaline, 0-2% garnet; straight sided, 0.5 cm to 3 m in width; non magnetic.
Gabbro: dark green to black, fine to medium grained, foliated to massive, CI 50 (clinopyroxene-hornblende-biotite-plagioclase-magnetite-garnet); variably magnetic. Thickness of unit is greater than 2 m. Gabbro dyke: Thickness less than or equal to 2 m. Norite: light brown locally dark green, fine to medium grained, foliated to massive, CI 35-50 (orthopyroxene-clinopyroxene- hornblende-biotite-plagioclase-magnetite); variably magnetic. Thickness of unit is greater than 2 m. Norite dyke: Thickness less than or equal to 2 m. Pyroxenite: dark green to black, fine to coarse grained, poorly foliated to massive; (clinopyroxene-garnet-hornblende-biotite-magnetite) variably magnetic; locally very high. Thickness of unit is greater than 2 m. Pyroxenite dyke: Thickness less than or equal to 2 m. Garnet-bearing anatectic granite: white to pale pink, medium to coarse grained and locally fine grained, foliated and layered particularly where remnants of Psg remain (mainly in the form of restite comprising variably retrogressed altered garnet, biotite and local sillimanite), CI 5-15 (predominately garnet with minor biotite); garnet retrogressed to biotite. Psammopelitic gneiss: white to light grey or pale pink and grey-brown to rusty, fine to coarse grained, well layered to gneissic and rarely migmatitic due to presence of melt ± injected leucosome, CI 10-30 (garnet-biotite-quartz-K-feldspar ± sillimanite ± plagioclase ± graphite); grades into unit GAn; locally weakly magnetic. Psammite layers up to 30 cm thickness present with CI 5-10 (garnet and biotite). Granite: black to grey and white to light pink, medium to coarse grained, well foliated, weakly lineated, CI 10-20 (pyroxene, biotite, hornblende); non magnetic. Mixed tonalite to gabbro: dark green to black and white to grey, heterogenous grain size from fine to coarse grained, well foliated to strongly lineated, gradational compositional variations between end members, CI 15-55 (clinopyroxene-hornblende-biotite ± clinopyroxene); variably magnetic. Quartz diorite to monzodiorite: white to dark grey and dark green to black, medium to coarse grained and locally very coarse grained, moderately to strongly foliated/lineated, CI 10-35 (clinopyroxene, hornblende, biotite, magnetite); generally highly magnetic.
Bedrock Geology of the Sovereign Lake Area, North Central Dodge Domain, Snowbird Project (Part of NTS 74P13) at 1:20 000 scale Preliminary Geological Map (2012) by B. Knox, C. R. Plews, and D. Lubiniecki
The area was mapped by Bernadette Knox (project leader), Clarke Plews (senior geologist), and Drew Lubiniecki with the assistance of Melissa Scansen and Jonathan Berthiume during the summer of 2012. This map was printed from the geologist’s digital file. Geological data were processed using Microsoft Access, and ESRI ArcMap 10 software. Base maps were compiled from CanVec 1:50 000 scale digital cartographic maps produced by Natural Resources Canada. Grid Coordinates are NAD83 CSRS98 UTM zone 13. The map was processed overall using ESRI ArcMap 10 software. The map is issued in a package with the Summary of Investigations 2012 Volume 2, Saskatchewan Geological Survey, and is available separately from http://www.er.gov.sk.ca/soi. This map accompanies the following publication: Knox. B., and Plews C. R. (2012): Bedrock geology of the Dodge, Sovereign, and Opescal lakes area, Dodge Domain (Parts of NTS 74P13, 14, and 15) and of the Selwyn Lake area, Mudjatik Domain (Parts of NTS 74P15 and 16); in Summary of Investigations 2012, Volume 2, Saskatchewan Geological Survey, Sask. Ministry of the Economy, Misc. Rep. 2011-4.2. This map may be referenced as: Knox, B., Plews, C. R., and Lubiniecki, D. C.
