Volunteers’ Morning Tea This Wednesday, 28 November 2018 between 11:00a.m. – 12:00p.m., our Beecroft Public School staff invite all of our very generous volunteers for their support and contribution throughout 2018 to a very special morning tea. The invitation is open to every single volunteer, whether you have baked a cake for an event, organised an event or stall, taught SRE or SEE, participated in a P&C committee, helped in the canteen, uniform shop or with reading groups, weeded a garden or built a pergola, we want you to feel appreciated and valued. Please join us for this special event. This year we will be entertained by our talented pianists. Farewell to these Outstanding Volunteers

Our school is also fortunate to have community members who have led and served our school in many ways over many years and are now moving on to the next chapter, as their children grow up and move on too. Gavan Harrison, Obeid Hamid, Winnie Wong and Fiona Burton have been instrumental contributors within the Band and Strings program and I thank them for their passion and commitment to supporting music at our school. Fiona Burton has also coordinated the stalls and operations for the last three Mulitcultural Fairs. Fiona is a consummate professional whose detailed planning, organisation, communication and precision have underpinned the success of each event, ensuring that each MCF has showcased the very best of Beecroft community spirit and connection. Chris Parrish has served as BOOSH President for many years and I thank him for his significant contribution as well. There are a number of parents who have supported the school community as class parents, MCF stall leaders or editors of the Year 6 Book who also leave us this year. Thank you to Sandra Campbell, Anne Farquharson, Kim Connor and Jennifer Lees for your service to students at our school. P&C Annual General Meeting

At the P&C AGM, I took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank the P&C leadership team of 2018 for their incredible support of our school and students. At this meeting Melissa White and Leon Wu both stepped down after leading the P&C for the past 2 years, as President and Treasurer, respectively. I would like to acknowledge their dedication, passion and hard work, and sincerely thank them for all they have done in supporting students at our school. I would like to thank those volunteers who have put their hand up and have been elected to lead the 2019 P&C. Please read on to the P&C President’s report for the outcome. At this meeting, two significant and long-term members of the P&C

were also acknowledged. Thank you to Fiona Burton and Mrs Kate Cousins for your outstanding contributions to the Beecroft PS P&C. The contribution of the P&C can be seen and felt across our school. The P&C has continued to generously support a diverse range of educational resourcing: including ICT and interactive whiteboards, the MultiLit Program, the hall PA and lighting system, the K-2 sound system, playground improvements including timber seating and a new grassed area and pergola and an outdoor learning and play space along the walkway. Our P&C has welcomed new and existing families into the school for events from orientations, movie nights and discos. Our P&C has worked tirelessly in making our school environment green and a space that children can enjoy. Our P&C committees provide a rich array of extra-curricula opportunities for our students to enjoy and a range of services that are offered conveniently here on site. For all that our P&C provides we say THANK YOU!

Sports Report

What a year for sport at BPS! We have had many wonderful experiences in the sporting arena on many levels. Congratulations to everyone who has participated in or represented our school at any event. We are very proud of the way you conduct yourselves and how hard you work to perform at your best. Planning amazing sport experiences for all students at BPS in 2019 is well underway. Interschool PSSA competitions will continue for Years 4 and 6, as well as skill based sport lessons throughout the week for all students K-6. In preparation for all sport competitions, gala days and dance groups in the future, a selection and participation policy has been written and is attached to this newsletter, and can also be found on the school website. Please take the time to have a read of this document as it outlines the selection process undertaken for all teams and groups and how the code of conduct is implemented in this area. We are very excited for what 2019 may hold for sport at BPS! Mrs Joanne Justic Sport Coordinator

The wind was blowing a gale but that did not stop the mighty knights from getting into the garden. Lots of food to harvest including our first purple tomatoes, as well as the usual beans, rhubarb, lettuce, kale and spinach. All were snapped up by savvy produce buyers at Friday pick up. We also had our first phone order.

But the highlight of the week (maybe even year) is the knights harvested and sold a cauliflower. Yes, the greening group has

successfully grown a full cauliflower head, and all things going well we may have another next week. They also have corn, which may just be ready in time for Christmas dinner.

Message from the President Last Wednesday saw the Beecroft Primary School P&C Meeting for November and Annual General Meeting take place. Prior to the

meetings there were thank you drinks and nibbles for the various P&C subcommittees for all their work over the last year. There was also a big thank you and presentation to Fiona Burton, for all the work she has done for our school over the last decade but particularly her outstanding work as MCF logistics co-ordinator extraordinaire. Fiona was also conferred life membership to the P&C during the main meeting.

The November meeting did not see any new items raised and the various co-ordinators updated us on the year’s activities. Overall

2018 has been not only a fabulous MCF year, but has also seen many things accomplished within the school as a whole and in the various sub-committees. Well done all.

The AGM saw Melissa White step down as P&C President after two successful years. We would like to thank Melissa for her time,

commitment, and dedication, which has ensured that over the last two years the P&C has made our great Beecroft Public School a better place, and leaves the P&C in a strong position to continue that work. We also farewelled Leon Wu, who stepped down as treasurer, but will continue to help with finances. Becky Wu and Sarah Piper also stepped down from the executive. We as a parent body thank them for the contribution they have made to our school.

As with all things, continuity and renewal are the key ingredients into building lasting culture. It is with great excitement that this

continues to occur within the P&C. We have some familiar faces staying around with Gary Tyzack who takes up the treasurer role again continuing his fabulous job keeping on top of the P&C finances; Melannie Hogan, who continues within the secretary role, keeping us all up to date and aware of what is going on, and what should be going on; Lisa Yen who remains as VP, just dropping the class parent role to train up our new one; Caroline Choong who continues her social committee co-ordination, and Louise de Vos and Nathan Breen who stay in the exec giving guidance. But most importantly we have 3 new faces joining the P&C in Adam Fusca (VP), Edwina Ogilvie and Donna Dubsky. Welcome aboard.

The Beecroft Public School P&C Executive for 2019 is: President - Ben McSweeney; Vice President (Class Parents) - Adam Fusca; Vice President - Lisa Yen; Treasurer - Gary Tyzack; Secretary - Mel Hogan; Executive Members - Nathan Breen, Caroline Choong, Louise DeVos, Edwina Ogilvie and Donna Dubsky. First P&C General Meeting is on Wednesday 20 February 2019. Ben McSweeney P & C President

The 2018 MCF was a wonderful day, showcasing our amazing school community spirit. We are pleased to announce a $52k result,

which will be used to improve the facilities and resources at our school for the benefit of our children. Thank you to the ‘many many hands’ who contributed to this day. We look forward to engaging these available ‘hands’ again on Saturday 31 October in 2020. Lisa Yen Vice-President

BOOSH

Hello Booshies!!! We are exploring the wonders of Harry Potter this week, a topic that many of our Booshies are keen to get involved in. Play some quidditch, make your own polly juice potion, and see if you can enchant a wand to bring your spell to life! CONGRATULATIONS STEPH Congratulations to Steph who was married last Friday 23 November. The bride looked stunning, of course, and the groom and bridal party also looked amazing. When Steph returns from her honeymoon, she will hopefully have a photo or two to share! VACATION CARE Vacation Care is filling up fast. Current Boosh families have until the end of this week for priority bookings. From Monday we will be contacting new families who have applied for Vacation Care to invite them to enrol to book any spots that are still available. VACATION CARE FOR YEAR 6 2018 and KINDY 2019 Year 6 Boosh children who finish school in December 2018 are welcome to attend any day in December/January Vacation Care. Kindy 2019 children are eligible to join us in Vacation Care from the start of January. We cannot accept enrolments in December, this is due to children being cared for under a different learning framework in the year before they start school – which Boosh is not currently set up to provide. Any Kindy 2019 child who is booked in to December Vacation Care, must be removed and parents will be notified that this has occurred. CHANGES TO SIGN IN/SIGN OUT AT BOOSH Regulation changes that come into effect in January 2019 have meant a change to the way families sign their children in and out of Boosh. In the coming weeks information will be provided to families on the new electronic system that will be in place by the end of term. We ask for patience and understanding as all staff and families adjust to this new system. SPECIAL AFTERNOON TEA Vegetarian Fried Rice on Monday afternoon! This Week Photos The children are loving building and creating! Our weekly Lego competitions are very popular. The children also had a great time creating newspaper wedding dresses to help celebrate Steph’s Wedding. .
