to students and for students giving feedback to each other. Feedback is given against shared criteria for success. Feedback is an important feature of ‘assessment for learning’ – assessment that moves learning forward. Two stars and a wish is a strategy that many classes use that allows teachers and students to provide constructive feedback. There are countless strategies available and teachers are investigating the research of Dylan Wiliam and Lyn Sharratt as they progress this important work. Assessment of Learning – Reporting to Parents "Assessment of learning" is a summative style of evaluation where teachers collect data to appraise the level of understanding and achievement students have gained during a period of time or after the teaching of a specific concept. As professionals, teachers are highly skilled at using formative and summative assessment and I am impressed with the depth of understanding in "Assessment for and of" learning each teacher holds. This term, teachers will be using their highly advanced skills in assessment as they prepare Semester One student reports. We look forward to sharing your children's achievements and giving you feedback about your child’s progress in reports later this term. Tanya Rose Principal

Sports Report Tennis Saturday night saw many of our students participate in the ETDTA tennis competition. Well done to everyone who competed, I will let the results below speak for themselves. What a close result! Thank you to Mrs Marshall from Cherrybrook Public School for penning the report. Beecroft had 19 students playing tennis on Saturday night at Pennant Hills Park. It was wonderful weather - so a good night for tennis. Beecroft was one of the winning finalists - but lost on a countback of games to Eastwood. Congratulations to these divisional winners: Benny and Cameron; Andrew and Liam; Riley and Rhys. Also, there were some second places: Angus and Ellena; Mukhilan; and Vignesh and Mikhail. The rest of the players had a great night of tennis: Kieran and Joshua; Anna and Edward; Lucas and Nicholas; Keurik and Thomas; and Clayton who played with a student from Cherrybrook. The next Challenge will be in August!

Zone Cross Country Good luck to all students who are competing at the Zone Cross Country Carnival this Wednesday at Fagan Park Galston. Students will meet Mr Blair under the Beecroft shade tent at 9:50a.m. to collect their running singlet and to cheer all our runners on throughout the day.

Elizabeth Farm Excursion At Elizabeth Farm there was a cellar to keep things cold. The people used chamber pots as a toilet. If the person needed something they used bells to call the servants. - Jasmine At Elizabeth Farm there were ladies’ bonnets. Ladies bonnets can cover you from the sun and the rain. There were horse and carriages instead of cars. They also had candles because back then they didn't have electricity and the rooms were dark. - Abigail At Elizabeth Farm they have dirt roads. We now have roads made out of cement. Dirt roads are bumpier and slower. Cement roads are faster and softer. They also had wooden toys. We now have plastic toys. Plastic toys are harder to break and wooden toys are easier to break. - James At Elizabeth Farm the toys were wooden. Now we have plastic toys and some toys use electricity. At Elizabeth Farm they had candles instead of lights. In the olden days they didn’t have electricity. - Erica Kay O’Brien Assistant Principal

Peer Support 2019

Week 5 A huge congratulations to everyone who participated in our first Peer Support lesson last week. It was wonderful to see our groups getting to know each other and working so well together. Our Year 6 leaders were outstanding. They were extremely well organised, confident and caring. We’re very proud of them all. Our focus for Peer Support this week is showing how we care for others. This session enables children to recognise how they care for themselves and others. During the week, ask your child how they care for themselves, their friends and family. Ellen Randall Assistant Principal

Woolworths Earn & Learn

Woolworths Earn & Learn is back! Between 1 May and 25 June, the Woolworths Earn & Learn program gives schools the chance to earn amazing school equipment. It only runs for a limited time, so spread the word and get everyone helping you to collect stickers: kids, parents, grandparents, neighbours and friends. It’s easy; collect as many stickers as you can, stick them on sticker sheets and drop them into the collection box either at the Front Office or outside the Staffroom.

Eco Corner Report Diligent Knights keep the gardens watered Although the rain has not fallen recently, the garden continues to grow aided by diligent watering knights. Spinach, beans, rhubarb and lettuce were harvested and more rainbow silverbeet, lettuce, beans and snow peas were planted in both the main garden and heritage garden. Whenever planting or other work is going on in the heritage garden, the kindy children crowd around watching and asking questions. Last Friday was no exception as the knights were swamped with over 20 keen kindy children watching on. Ben the Green Garden Guru In knowledge we grow
