Rumbleseat Review April 2014 Thi s emblem is ready for your t ee shirt Beehive A’s - The Model A Ford Club of Northern Utah Gents: Start Your Engines! We have a report through the Southern command --Kaysville to Bountiful NSA division--that there is talk flittering about of a TTT "Time Trial Tour" to be held out at the Miller Speedway Race Course. The origin of this chatter is still being pinned down to someone who might know and is out of town. Phone calls are not being returned, nor emails answered. As best as we can determine that person answers to "What the Hell Mel!" (you might remember him from Tooele as that guy The Bachman “Bomb” at the Christmas party). He has some connection to the brothers at the Miller Group of Companies--Glen. (not the music man). Word is that Denny Sprecher thinks his "One Offy" is capable of 235 mph. on a straight level shot down the speedway. That and you throw in the "in line" double-Buick-engined 480's race car of Logan's Del Friedlie and the "the Bomb" race car and speedsters of the Bachman's--Mike and Vic. and gents, we've got us a day at the races! The details are still being worked out. It seems there is some elbow room that the Millers can fit us in on Saturday April 26, 2-4 in the afternoon. After the speed events have taken place, we can all take to the raceway and mosey the course at our leisure, picnic, gawk, or blow our head gaskets if tempted to race. According to the Beehive A web site and last month’s newsletter Prez Cliff Betten has plans this April for a "Poker Run" (to be announced) tour. Does he have this Miller Speedway event on his mind as a “Slow Poke/Poker Run?” As of press time, Cliff could not be reached for comment. Do however take some bucks along for betting. Be at the April meeting to see what Cliff has planned.

The March “dust off” HAFB tour A respectable turn out of members and theirspouses met at the Layton City Golden Corralfor breakfast to begin this the year 2014touring season. A dozen “A” sedans, coupes, and trucks assembled in the parking lot alongwith a Shay reproduction “A” and a modernconvertible. A room was reserved for uswhere we ate and socialized prior to leavingfor the air base. A sitely string of A’s drew thehonks of admirers as we ventured up the oldMain Street of Layton, Clearfield, and Roy. Norm Leishman in his police “A” sedan wasflattered with a thumbs up from a Roy City The Hill Aerospace Museum Utahpolice officer. Better than a ticket for impersonating an officer. For an early spring tour theday was cool but acceptable. Again we lined the cars up at the Hill Air Force Base parkingfor a “selfie” show. The next couple of hours was spent viewing the fighter aircraft thatdefended our country and reading of their histories.

Out and About: Steve Sessions brought neighbor friend Eldon Flinders to the March meeting. Eldonhas a newly acquired 30 coupe that he is working on. Jim Brown has modified the BeehiveA web site with a password member log in to protect personal information. The widow ofArvil Parcell, 4656 Cherry St. SLC. 84123, is about to sell the machines, tools and Model Aparts and stuff of his estate. Contact Rosie, his wife, for sales information at 801-262-7141 or801-979-7141. Prez Cliff Betten will present us with more information about tee shirts withthe club’s emblem on it. Randy Christiansen and Mike Bachman are donating a generatorand a beehive to the raffle at MAFCA National Convention in Puyallup. New club member

President’s Message: Come on Summer! Our March meeting was a hoot. We had a great showing of membersand some prospective new ones. Ray talked clutches and went to a lot of work to includevisual aids. We had a great introduction to new members Chuck and Sally Carles. Wewrapped up details on a couple of tours, got the ball rolling faster toward our club shirts beinga reality and to end it all we had some great food complete with Saint Patty's Day decor. March's tour to Golden Corral and the Air Force Museum in Roy went perfectly. We had

  • 4a great turnout including a lot of beautiful "A"s. Bachmaninsisted I lead the pack through town on the way to the museum. I have done this a great many times on motorcycles but that wasmy first turn as wagon master. I was dang proud. Then I stoppedat a light and a beautiful colored lady asked, "Where you allgoing?". Now any man in his right mind knows that the correctresponse to a question like that coming from a source like thatneeds to be something like, "wherever you want!" I've excludedmyself from the "right mind" category just by being president inthe first place, second the whole club was behind me so the best Icould come up with was a squeaked, "To the Air ForceMuseum." Heck I didn't even add "Wanna go?" In the Prez Betten on taskwords of the great Cheech Marin, "Responsibility is a heavy responsibility man." The museum itself was amazing. We drew a lot of attention (mostly positive). I thoughteveryone disappeared pretty fast but as it turned out the three generations of Betten missed awhole building. My defense is lingering shock from the traffic stop. The other two are ontheir own. Thanks to Richard Kotter for the lavish accommodations throughout and strategicplanning. I'm looking forward to our April meeting. Ray is going to educate us about transmissions, and Mike Nicholls will give us a detailed introduction to himself. Think about a couplethings. Do we want to escape the library for the summer months? Do we have any ideas foran April tour? Surely we can go smash some bugs at least? Okay see you at the library. Keep 'em rolling and stay safe! Model T club organized During these past few months there has been quite an effort to assemble “T” owners intoa club. The leg work has now been done. A new “Model T Ford Club of Utah” has beenorganized with our own president-elect Doug Jenkins as the “T” president. It is associatedwith the national MTFCA. The club is starting out with sixty-four state wide members. Theymeet monthly at the Larry H. Miller dealershipin SLC. on 13th South. Don Niederhauser is theV.P., Doug’s wife Holly is the sec./treasurer,and Andrew Deckman the newsletter editor. Area or regional directors have been appointedwith plans for activities, meets, and a breakoutbreakfast. Congratulations go out to ourbrother club what with a few more wrinklesand dents in their rusty colored skin than our“A’s.” As to a sibling rivalry–I don’ think so. We’ll look up to them. They seem to be a bitwiser. Doug’s “Celebrity” movie star T
