Rip - Rap
• North of the village the access road is protected by these large granite boulders.
Sea Wall & Rip - Rap
• In front of the village the rip rap is backed up by a curved seawall.
Sea Wall & Rip – Rap 2
The Seawall extends along the entire length of the sea front of the village.
Rip – Rap / Rock Armour
• At the Southern end of the village the sea wall ends & these last cottages are protected by just Rip – Rap.
Engineering Works
• All these defences were constructed in 1993.
Flood Proofed Buildings
• In emergencies, wooden flood boards can be inserted into these slots.
• Along with sand bags protect the sea front houses.
Torcross
• North of Beesands is the village of Torcross.
• The coast road meets the coast at this village.
Defences
Sea Wall
• A curved sea wall has been constructed along the sea front to protect the road.
Promenade
• This is the old coast road, which has now been diverted behind the village, for further protection.
