Expressions of Interest are now called for NSW Interschools Snowsports 2019

What is Interschools Skiing & Boarding? Interschools skiing & boarding is a series of competitions in Alpine Giant Slalom, Cross Country, Skier Cross, Moguls, Snowboard Giant Slalom and Boarder Cross.

It is organised by the Interschools Snowsports Committee. Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders run on modified giant slalom courses. The Cross Country relay is a 3-person relay team event. The Cross Country Classic race features skiing in the classical style - this event is not a relay and the start is massed. The Moguls is a “bumps/jumps” course. Boarder Cross and Skier Cross are timed events on a slopes-style course.

All courses are set to a suitably challenging level for school skiers and boarders. Competitors from all ability levels are encouraged to enter, with an emphasis on fun and participation in the initial regional series of championships.

As the competitions move into the State and then the National event, the level of competition and the degree of difficulty increases.

When is the Interschools skiing & boarding? The Interschools Competition will be held on Wednesday, 24th, Thursday, 25th July and Friday 26th July at Perisher.

What age division? Division 1: Years 11 & 12. Division 2: Years 9 & 10. Division 3: Years 7 & 8. Division 4: Years 5 & 6. Division 5: Year 4 and below.

Successful teams from the Regional Competitions may qualify for the NSW State Championships and, from there, may qualify for the Subaru Australian Championships. Up to the top 5 teams and the top 5 individuals from each event progress through. More info can be obtained at www.nswinterschools.com.au

NOTE: Helmets are compulsory for all Alpine, Moguls, S/X, B/X, and Snowboarding racers.

Where will we stay? ‘The Station Resort’ in Jindabyne. Dinner and breakfast is included and the cost (still to be determined and dependent on numbers) will be approximately $250 per student for 3 nights (4-6 share room).

Race Cost? Annual Registration $30 (one off fee) + Race Entry $47 per event.

Students will need to have own gear or can hire gear at extra cost.

Students will also need to pay for lift tickets on the mountain or use their own season pass.

How do we get there? Teachers and parents supply the transport in private vehicles. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Who did I see about the Interschools? See Ms Gibbons in the Mathematics Faculty by the end of this week, to sign up and register your interest. Permission notes will then be sent home in the coming weeks.
