PowerPoint is a powerful tool to organize and enhance any visual presentation. It can help make your job simpler and more professional in appearance. You can easily add photos, tables, graphs, animations, videos, sound and more to interest your audience.

• Informational talks before a group• Homework projects• Slide shows• Kiosks • Other tasks…Use your imagination!

Getting Started

Open PPT program(Start Menu>All programs>Microsoft Office>MS Office

PowerPoint)

Then start a “New Presentation”(Click “File” then “New” or use the “New” icon at upper left.)

One of the best ways to learn is by experimenting!

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.

Keyboard shortcuts are time-savers!

Control C = CopyControl V = Paste Control S = SaveControl X = CutControl Z = Redo (My favorite)

Adding Images and Animations

Choose file type you want to add from the “Insert” command in the menu line. Navigate to the file wanted and click “open”. Right click image to format your pictures.

It’s the same for animations and other formats… Choose file type you want to add from the “Insert” command in the menu line. Navigate to the file wanted and click “open”. Right click image to format your pictures.

Click “Insert” on top menu and choose “Object” from drop-down list. Check box to “Create new” or “Create from file” and navigate to locate that file.

In this case, I browsed to a “PowerPoint Show” in a .pps format.

Transitions between slides

Choose “Slide Transition” on the task pane for action between slides.

• Other options include speed, sound, and manual or automatic advance.

• Apply to all slides if desired.• The options are staggering, but it’s best to

show restraint!

Little Tips &Time Savers

• SAVE OFTEN!

• Save all files for one show in one folder

• Before editing a slide, make a duplicate

• Right-clicks provide lots of options

• Learn “sweet spots” for commands and right-click menus

• EXPERIMENT!

not overwhelm, your show’s content.
