2 Samuel 718-29

Perhaps the greatest

key to spiritual growth

is spending time alone

with the Lord This

means taking the time

to speak with God

about whatever is on

your heartmdashand even

more importantly al-

lowing Him to speak

to you

God called King David

ldquoa man after My

heartrdquo (Acts 1322)

To win that kind of

reputation David first

needed to know the

mind and heart of God

so that he might be and

do what the Lord de-

sired of him David

sought to know God

He frequently

ldquoinquiredrdquo of the Lord

He spent time in the

Lordrsquos presence sing-

ing to the Lord from

the depths of his heart

In 2 Samuel 718 we

read ldquo Then David the

king went in and sat

before the LORD and

he said bdquoWho am I O

Lord GOD and what

is my house that You

have brought me this

far‟rdquo

What did it mean for

David to sit before the

Lord in prayer It

means that he spent

time alone in the pres-

ence of God commu-

nicating with the Lord

from the depths of his

heart asking Him

questions and listen-

ing quietly for His an-

swers

Jesus frequently

sought time with His

heavenly Father Time

with the Father pro-

vided the Savior with a

never-ending source of

comfort and strength

Jesus also sought time

alone with His disci-

ples so that He might

teach them and they

might find spiritual

refreshment (Luke

917-24)

We are wise if we

choose to spend time

alone with God in

prayermdashin a place

without distractions or

interruptions for a

period sufficient for us

to relax completely

and focus our attention

fully upon the Father

and His Word We

must be willing to wait

in the Lordrsquos presence

until we receive Godrsquos

directives of His words

of comfort

Why donrsquot many of us

desire to spend time

alone with God The

foremost reason is that

we donrsquot feel sure of

our relationship with

the Lord and there-

fore we feel afraid of

Him

But those who are

born again spiritually

have a Father-child

relationship with the

Lord Our heavenly

Father loves us uncon-

ditionally and deals

with us tenderly and

patiently The more we

learn what Hersquos really

likemdashthe more we see

Him as He truly ismdash

the more we will long

to spend time alone

with Him and the

more we will know the

fullness of His grace

it is evident that God

desires to communion

with us on an intimate

level He want to be

our hiding place fill-

ing us with his streams

of joy and showing us

how He protects us

from the enemy by

destroying their weap-

ons In order to re-

ceive Godrsquos glory we

must be still and listen

and not caught up in

circumstances

Silence is a place of

faith When we are

anxious and our mind

is running our

thoughts through the

flesh filter of past

hurts and feelings we

cannot focus on God

In Habakkuk 220 the

world is in chaos ldquoBut

the Lord is in his holy

temple let all the

earth be silent before

himrdquo

Those who believe can

rest in the silence

knowing who God is

and that he reigns over

every situation

Recently Bishop

Smith preached about

Peter walking on the

water to Jesus (Matt

1422-31) Jesus bids

Peter to come and in-

structs him to ldquoTake

Courage It is I Don‟t

be afraidrdquo or activate

his faith because Peter

has a relationship with

Jesus When Peter

was distracted by the

wind and begins to

sink his faith focus

was shifted off of Je-

sus on to the wind

When he was operat-

ing in faith he did not

need to say anything it

was not until he got

distracted that he had

to cry out for Jesus to

help him Then Jesus

chastises him with

love saying rdquoye of

little faith hellipwhy did

you doubtrdquo Jesus

knew that saying ldquoIt is

Irdquo was enough to keep

Peter walking toward

him even with the

wind if he just had

faith It is amazing

Jesus gave Peter in-

structions to ldquoTake

Couragerdquo and gives us

instructions to be of

good courage or be of

good faith and believe

that He is able and all

powerful over our

situation It is through

faith we learn to live in

the spirit by the word

of God Faith comes

by hearing Romans

1017 What are listen-

ing to Jesus says to

ldquoCome Take Courage

It is I and do not be

afraidrdquo

God has been teaching

us throughout Psalm

46 who He is in order

for us to understand

that knowing God is

enough to keep us

when the world is in

turmoil effected by

natural disasters or

Ingredients

Extra virgin olive oil 1 cup 3 oz 85g sliced almonds a small handful cilantro about 12 cup 1 medium clove garlic peeled 12 jalapeno pepper seeded and de-veined 14+ teaspoon fine grain sea salt 13 cup 80 ml extra virgin olive oil 1 bunch 8 oz 225 g baby carrots scrubbed and sliced in half lengthwise

1 bunch 16 oz 450 g pencil-thin asparagus stalks trimmed cut into 2-inch segments squeeze of lemon optional

Directions

Bring a large pot of water to a boil In the meantime toast

the almonds in a large skillet over medium heat in a splash

of olive oil along with a big pinch of salt Let them get deeply

golden remove from heat and set aside

Make the dressing by combining the cilantro garlic jala-

peno and salt in a food processor - or alternately in a

blender or with a hand blender Drizzle the olive oil iin while

pulsing continuing until the dressing is a creamy vibrant

green Taste and adjust to your liking with more salt garlic

jalapeno etc

Salt the boiling water generously then add the carrots wait

15 seconds and add the asparagus Depending on the ac-

tual thickness of your carrotsasparagus cook for about 30 -

60 more seconds you want the vegetables to retain some

structure and bite Drain and immediately run under cold

water to stop the cooking Spin dry in a salad spinner

In a large bowl toss the vegetables with a generous splash

of the dressing Toss well add 23 of the toasted almonds

and gently toss again Taste and adjust for seasoning You

might want to add a quick squeeze of lemon juice at this

point but its optional Serve family-style topped with the

remaining almonds

Serves 4-6 as a side

Prep time 25 min- Cook time 5 min

heart for His people

done and undoable

so that He can do

number twelve has

significant spiritual
