SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS PROGRAM AT COLES Bell Prep- 10 State School is participating in the Sports for Schools Program which started 7 February and continues until 11 May. If you, family members or community members shop at Coles, please support us by collecting the vouchers and placing the vouchers in the collection bin at the school office or in the box at Coles in Dalby. We have participated in this program before and we were able to redeem our vouchers for a variety of different sporting resources which were used by many students. Thank you for supporting our school. Carmen Llewellyn

WORLD OF MATHS

Last Friday, Bell State School students put their maths knowledge to the test by working in groups to solve some real world problems. To solve these problems students had to reach deep into their bags of tricks as each problem required skillsets from geometry, probability, units of measure, algebra and logical reasoning.

The most favourite activity by far was “The Postman” which kept the students on their toes. Placing shapes to make a parallelogram proved to be the most challenging activity with some out of the box thinking required. It was rumoured that even a maths teacher (not mentioning any names) at the school was owned on that one much to the delight of some of the high school students who solved it within minutes. Overall everyone agreed it was a well worth activity that took our students’ ability to problem solve for a really good test drive. Year 8 PC teacher, Mark McNaughton

Student Comments: “It was better than doing actual school.” Aaron Gleeson - Yr 9

“I thought it was good because there was lots of fun and interactive games to choose from.” Jackson Woodward – Yr 4 “I thought it was really good and my favourite one was ‘The Snakes’ because you had to build different boxes and they had to be all different.” Finnian Burns – Yr 4

“I think it was good because we did different activities and learnt new things.” Taryn Schneekloth – Yr 4 “Some of the questions were very challenging though overall it was still lots of fun.” Sarah Morrow – Yr 10 “I enjoyed World of Maths because we did lots of new activities and had fun.” Braiden Schneekloth – Yr 3

“I thought World of Maths was dull and tedious.” Bryce Billington – Yr 10

“My favourite activity was the ‘Ski Race’. You had to flick the light on and three skiers had to race down to see who was the winner.” Ruby Heathwood – Yr 3

SWIMMING CARNIVAL - WONGA RULES THE POOL FOR 2018 The Swimming Carnival was held on Friday 2nd Feb and due to unfavourable weather was finished on Wednesday 7th. Despite the weather there was high participation from students swimming in events to support their houses. There were great races to watch with some very exciting finishes! Congratulations to Wonga house for being the winners of the 2018 Swimming Carnival.

Congratulations to the students below for receiving Age Champion.

ECO SCHOOLS STUDENTS BUSY WITH VEGETABLE GARDEN PREPARATION

The Year 7 and Year 8 students have been busy preparing the School Vegetable Garden. Late last year, we used all of the collected newspapers as a weed mat and many bags of donated horse manure as well as a trailer load of feedlot manure to cover it for the holidays. It worked a treat as we came back to very few weeds, We have been lucky to have on loan a rotary hoe to do all the hard digging. Last week it was completed and we have 12 beds ready to plant once the weather is a little kinder. Many thanks to Mr Terry Coleman for the loan of the machine. This week we are planting seed into containers to grow our own seedlings.
