• The Silk Road was a long distance trade route from China to Rome
• Silk and spices traveled from China westward
• Roman ideas were carried east, to their provinces

• Indian and Arabic traders act as middlemen and grow wealthy
• Cultural diffusion: including the spread of Buddhism from India to China

How did the Silk Road facilitate the spread of ideas?
ANS: As traders from Rome traveled to China, they met with other traders. They discussed their ideas, religions, cultures, etc. As the traders returned home, they took the things that they had learned and spread them to other people.
Fun Fact:
• The Silk Road was the name of a dark web site that was created as a market place for illegal drugs
• The FBI took down the site in 2013 and again in 2014 when The Silk Road 2.0 came online
• The name of the site is a reference the trade route
