One day while the girls were outside for recess, two visitors snuck

into Mrs. Paul-Fetterman’s room. It was Bellalocks and Rosielocks.

nce upon a time there were three little girls in second

grade at Whittier Elementary School. They loved going to

Mrs. Paul-Fetterman’s room for reading.

Bellalocks and Rosielocks were so excited to visit the reading room.

Immediately they saw the books on the table that the girls had

been reading.

They opened up the first one. It was called Puppies for Rosie. Rosielocks

was reminded of the puddles Jack and Daisy made. She said,

“This book is too disgusting!” and set it back down on the table. 5

Then Bellalocks looked at the second book called, Bella is a Bad Dog.

This book reminded her of being stuck in a crate. She said,

“This book is too depressing!” and set it back down on the table.

Finally, Bellalocks and Rosielocks looked at the last book on the

table. It was called Bella and Rosie Trick-or-Treat. This book reminded

them of how they got to play dress up and get into Mom’s chocolate.

“This book is just right,” they both said. They took the book. 7

All that reading made them hungry. Bellalocks looked around the

room and spotted some treat jars sitting on the shelf. First, they tried

the fruit chews. “These are too chewy,” said Bellalocks.

Next, they tried some crackers. “These are too crunchy,”

said Rosielocks. 9

Last, they tried some chocolate. “I love chocolate,” said Bellalocks.

“Me, too,” said Rosielocks. “These are just right,” they both shouted.

They each grabbed a pawful.

Bellalocks and Rosielocks were getting tired. They looked for a good

place to rest. First, they saw a blue pillow. “This pillow is too hard

and too blue,” said Bellalocks. 11

Next, they found a yellow pillow. “This pillow is too soft and

too yellow,” said Rosielocks.

Last, they found two pillows together. One was pink and one was

purple. They were not too hard and not too soft. “These are just right”

shouted Bellalocks. “And the right colors, too,” said Rosielocks.

Bellalocks and Rosielocks were so comfortable that they fell asleep. 13

When recess was over, the three second-grade girls returned to Mrs.

Paul-Fetterman’s room. Vianney sat down and said, “Someone’s been

reading my book.”

Madison opened her book and said, “Someone’s been reading

my book, too.” 15

Mari looked all around and said, “Someone’s been reading my book

too, and it’s missing!”

The girls were hungry after running around from recess, so they

decided to have a snack while trying to figure out who had been

reading their books. “Someone’s been eating our fruit chews,”

shouted Vianney. 17

“Someone’s been eating our crackers,” shouted Madison.

Mari looked at the last jar. It was empty. “Someone’s been eating our

chocolate and they ate it all up,” shouted Mari. 19

The girls needed to sit down and think about this. They went over to

the pillows. “Someone’s been resting on my blue pillow,”

said Vianney.

“Someone’s been resting on my yellow pillow,” said Madison.21

“Someone’s been resting on my pink and purple pillows and here

they are,” shouted Mari.

The three second-grade girls were so excited to finally meet

Bellalocks and Rosielocks that they started jumping up and down

and screaming. 23

This noise woke up

Bellalocks and Rosielocks,

but instead of running

away, they all sat down

and shared some treats

and stories. “We are so

glad you came to our

school” said the three

second graders. “We are,

too!” said Bellalocks and

Rosielocks.
