Bellevue Transportation Department

Drivers are positive role models for the students. They are the

first to greet them in the morning, and last to wish them a

good day.

• On time for trips, picking up and dropping off of students at the bus stop, they are on schedule and consistent.

• Good communication with the parents, on discipline issues and positive feedback.

• Parents are called at the beginning of the year by each driver to introduce themselves as well as for A.M. and P.M. pick up and drop off times.

• Family atmosphere within Transportation Department. They are a very caring team of drivers that look out for the student’s safety.

• They don’t let students off the bus unless a parent is seen, for 3rd graders and younger.

• Because we are a smaller district, the Transportation Department has better communication and cooperation with parents.

• The bus fleet has several newer buses, which are well maintained with safety checks done consistently.

Early Childhood and Preschool

• Daycare:

• Our enrollment is going up, we have added a least 1 new family a month.

• We have the lowest fees in the area.

• We will be offering great activities for all children this summer.

• We accept children on a drop-in basis.

• We serve children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.

• GSRP:• This is a fully funded program for 4

year olds who are district residents.

• We have a new teacher and assistant teacher this year.

• They have gone on several field trips this year and they are looking forward to ending the year with a big family picnic.

• Head Start:

• This is a new program for Bellevue• This preschool accepts both 3 and 4 year

olds. • It is a part time preschool with two teachers• The children are here for 3.5 hours a day, 4

days a week. • They have breakfast and lunch at school. • This is a great new program to help our

district prepare more of our young children entering our schools.

Points of Pride for the Elementary School

• Headsprout computer learning is being used for the lower grades for Title I students

• PLATO is being used at each grade level for students who are advanced in their learning in math and/or reading

• The Physical Education Department was awarded a grant to purchase pedometers for each student in grades 4-6.

• Beginning Band offered to 5th and 6th grade students

• The Music Department performs two school-wide music concerts each year.

• Mr. Adam Ries is teaching Spanish to the 4th graders through distance learning

• Consumer’s Energy provided an assembly for students in grades 4-6. Each child received a package of energy saving devices.

• The entire school collected and donated canned foods and mittens/gloves/hats for the Good Samaritans at Christmas time

• Cooking classes are offered seasonally for 1st through 3rd graders

• Students participated in the High School’s blood drive by encouraging their parents and family members to donate

• Community Health Fair is provided each year in the spring.

• Sixth grade students participate in a week long camp each spring and attend Star Base every fall.

• Students raised over $200 for Haiti just from pocket donations

POINTS OF PRIDE FROM BELLEVUE HIGH SCHOOL

• We are proud to share the accomplishments of our staff and students as they continue to provide the best education in the entire area. Please, read through this list and you will soon see why Bellevue is the school of choice!

• Mrs. Haddock and the Art Department – Through a grant awarded to Naomi Haralson

and Mrs. Haddock, work towards a “Beautify Bellevue” program is in progress. The CACC has cut and welded ten life-sized sand hill cranes that will be decorated by area artists. The cranes will be installed around Bellevue in mid August and will be on display through mid October. This will coincide with the crane festival. The art club is also working on glass for sun catchers and batik banners. All of this will be used to decorate our village in August.

Mrs. Miller and the Music Department• The high school band attended a very successful Michigan

Wind and Percussion Festival.• The Jr./Sr. bands and choir performed a successful St.

Patrick’s Day concert for the community.• Jr./Sr. high bands will be attending a Detroit Symphony

Orchestra performance, “Mighty Melodies,” on May 7th thanks to our approved grant. Only a select number of monetary awards were given and our music instructor, Mrs. Miller, received one of them.

• Jr./ Sr. high bands and choir will be performing the Annual Spring Finale Concert on May 19th at 6:30 PM.

• Bands and choir will also attend the Trills and Thrills Festival in Sandusky, Ohio on the 28th of May.

• The high school band will be performing at the Memorial Day parade on the 31st of May and at graduation on the 6th of June.

Ms. Redmer and the N.H.S.

• On April 30th the NHS and the Village of Bellevue will be holding the second annual Pride Day. This is a day that allows our students to give back to the community that does so much for them. Hopes are that this will soon become a school-wide event.

• For the first time ever, Bellevue will be hosting the Special Olympics. This will happen on May 7th starting at 9:00 AM. Due to the tremendous support the student body has always shown for this event, through peer trainers and spectators, we are thrilled at the opportunity to provide this for our Olympians. Thank you to the extra effort from our Athletic Director Mr. May, the NHS, Mrs. Bloch and many other people.

Mr. Smith and the Social Studies Department• Students are approaching the subject of

politics and campaigns by researching multiple topics in those areas. They are then required to debate the issues with their classmates and try to decide which, if any method, reigns superior over another. This emphasizes the importance of speech, writing and research techniques which are necessary in any career.

• Students are also involved in reviewing and researching the “American Landmark Cases”. These are considered to be the fifteen greatest and most influential court cases ever handled by the Supreme Court.

• Mr. Fitton and the Math Department• If you want to see technology in its greatest form,

watch the classes of Mr. Fitton. He uses the ENO boards to show graphing and will be doing so with a range finder loaned to him from the science department. Students are continually engaged in higher level thinking strategies as they incorporate the newest of technology learning in their classrooms.

• Mr. Fitton is working with Mrs. Hendershot on writing strategies as they exist in math. This allows our students to appreciate that writing knows no boundaries and has been proven to improve skills in ALL content areas. This type of cross-curricular teaching is becoming a very common and successful practice at Bellevue Jr./Sr. High School.

Mrs. Dingman, Mrs. Brophy and the Science Department • An Ecology club is planned to evolve this year. We are hoping

to see it become an active club for the 2010-2011 school year. • Bedding plants are being grown in the current greenhouse and

it is hoped that the sale of these items will help create start-up money for this new club.

• The honey bees will also be incorporated into the new program along with recycling and composting.

• Current classes are testing soil types and carrying out experiments that show how to improve even the worst types of soils.

• The new “Issues in Science” class is researching and debating the use of creatine by athletes.

• Students are also involved in creating learning journals. They illustrate and write/record what they learn each week.

Mrs. Hendershot and the ELA Department• The Bronco Pride is going strong and has just

completed its sixth issue of the year. Writing portfolios are the emphasis and final projects for the Creative Writing classes which boast maximum class sizes.

• The board will hear a presentation on the upcoming year (2010-2011) that finds Bellevue High School a demonstration school. This includes high school writing in the content areas and different forms of implementation. Other schools will be visiting our facility to observe and learn the techniques being incorporated into all academic areas.

• 3:00 to 4:00 PM each day for athletes

• Students can seek tutoring, participate in study sessions, access weight rooms, work with a dual sport coach and/or work with an out of season sport coach

• Practices for in-season sports do not begin until 4:00 PM
