Vintage Fair feedback

So far we have been able to thank some key individuals in last weeks newsletter and at last weeks assembly. This week we have a full list of our sponsors and supporters in this newsletter. If we have missed anyone, please let us know as we plan to repeat this posting again and place this list on our website as well. Please follow this link below to provide us with some valuable feedback. The survey should take no more than 3 mins of your time and will help us further improve this event in the years to come. www.surveymonkey.com/r/MXPNBZP

Again our sincere thanks to our key sponsor Kerrs Hire who provided all of our power and staging which due to the initial poor weather, we were unable to fully utilise.

Mixed grade Fun Day Ever heard of doing something just for the fun of it? Well that’s exactly what Belmont Primary did last week mixing up all students into 15

separate groups to take part in some fun and hands on activities with classmates from every grade level.

Page 3: BELMONT PRIMARY SCHOOL Mt Pleasant Road, Belmont … · with a gold coin donation on Friday 30th November to raise money to support a family this Christmas. The crazier the better.

As you can see from these few snaps it was a great day all round with plenty of smiles. Our thanks to Yvonne Mc Donald and her Well Being team who got this idea up and running. Playground heights Belmont PS has two playground equipment areas. They are designed differently and for different age groups. The key difference is the size and heights of the equipment within them.

The Junior playground - we allow students from Grade Prep to Year 2. Sometimes Prep buddies are permitted to play carefully in this area. The Senior playground is for students Grades 3-6. No students from younger grades are permitted to play on this equipment during school time. Some may choose to after school under the supervision of parents. This would not be the schools recommendation however as this equipment is larger and fall heights higher. Evidence of a record breaking Paper challenge.

Our two football finalists for the Vintage Fair handball competition. Just two points separated 1st Harry E and 2nd Blair G.

Junior Aths Day What a great morning was had this week with the weather holding just long enough for our Juniors to enjoy a range of athletic themed activities. Our thanks to our School and House Captains who kept our Juniors organised and helped maximise their involvement in all activities offered and Mrs Ryan who made all the arrangements and provided strong guidance to supervising staff and students. Well done to all participants and our final winners. We’ll be sure to have a girls component to our final awards next time. Didn’t see this result coming.

Lucky our eggs were hard boiled (wooden) More photos next week. School Magazine The school has committed to a further instalment of the ‘ever popular’ School Magazine. The school will arrange for both hard copies and a free digital copy for families. This year the full cost of the magazine, less any sponsorship monies, will need to be met by those parents who order a hard copy or multiple hard copies. Would you like to sponsor the magazine this year. We have Bronze Silver and Gold levels starting at $100 / $250 / $500. Sponsors are featured prominently on the back cover of the magazine and in our newsletters for a period of time at no extra charge. Please contact the office if you are interested. The free digital copy will be available by years end however we expect the hard copy will not be available until the end of January or early February 2019 for pick up if necessary from the front office. Our generous sponsors so far but more welcome.

Can you help? The school is seeking a new sponsor or two to help set up our central area of the BER building for our future learning. One of the likely directions for the school over the next 4 years will be an increasing focus around the subjects of science and technology. Do you have a contact for a mid to large size business or corporation that might be interested in forming a partnership with our school? Please let us know. We plan to write to local businesses and corporations soon seeking strong sponsorship and community partnership. Tongue twisters are a fun and effective way to promote a child’s language development and will be a small feature of our newsletters this term replacing jokes of the week. Tongue Twister of the week I scream, you scream…. ……….we all scream for ice cream.

Regards David Houghton (Principal)

BPS SPELLING FOCUS

Weekly Sound air as in chair Word Study: Adverbs An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or other adverb. To put it another way, an adverb describes actions, and it describes other descriptive words. An adverb tells how, how often, when and where. For example, HOW adverbs: easily, loudly, happily HOW OFTEN adverbs: Always, never, once WHEN adverbs: after, already, before WHERE adjectives: inside, away, outside Home Activity: Think of some ‘ly’ adverbs to describe how you do different things in your life. For example: At athletics I run quickly. In class, I work quietly at my table.

CRAZY HAIR DAY

On Friday the 30th of November Junior School Council have organised a Crazy Hair Day to raise funds for the adopt-a-family appeal run by the Geelong Advertiser. On the day students can bring a cold coin donation and come to school with “Crazy Hair”. This might include a wig, hair spray or anything else you can think of.

PARENTS CLUB

Vintage Fair Gratitude Another successful Fair and another massive effort from a small army of volunteers! On behalf of the Parents Club, thank you to everyone who helped make the Fair happen. From parent volunteers to the teachers who helped prepare food and set up and run each classes activity, thank you. Thank you also to all the families who contributed to the scavenger hunt, silent auction and cake stall. I know every little bit helps but there are two people I would like to especially mention. Firstly, David who was not only the lead in all elements of the Fair but was madly cooking and preparing the food on the Wednesday and Thursday nights prior with the parent and teacher volunteers. Although I am sure he had many other things to do he was there till the end each night (past 11:30pm) helping in any way he could. I know we are a lucky school to have such a dedicated Principal. To Fiona Martin, you’re a star! All your time, work and culinary brilliance amounted to a spectacular effort. You achieved so much and your tireless dedication to getting it all done is so very much appreciated. Thank you!

Election Day Saturday November 24th Our school is a Polling Station for the State Election and we have in the past held a sausage sizzle and cake stall. This year we will be also selling the popular Mexican beef dish too. Thank you to those who have already responded to the call for volunteers through the Facebook group, but we still need helpers at the following times: 11:30 to 12:30 12:30 to 1:30 Please message me direct on 0412 203 356 if you can help. As with the Fair, cake packs were sent home with each eldest child. If you are able to bake something for the stall that would be greatly appreciated. The bonus of holding the stall on Election Day is that so many people outside the immediate school community are able to make a contribution to our great school. Parents Lawn Bowls Night December 1st 6:00pm Tickets for the night will be on sale from the staff room after assembly tomorrow. After this you can message me direct to purchase a ticket. Thank you Skye Knight

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB

Welcome to the last Book Club for 2018! Thank you so much for your support throughout the year. With the points earned through the year from parent orders, we’ve been able to add so many awesome books to the Library’s collection as well as new learning resources to classrooms. Lots of happy readers! Issue 8 orders are due Thursday 29th November at 9am please. If any orders are GIFT orders, please be sure to write GIFT clearly on your paper order, or select the GIFT option if ordering online through Scholastic’s website. Gift orders will be held at the office for you to collect. Finally, I’m looking for someone (or two!) to take over Book Club next year… a great opportunity to get involved in the school and support literacy. I’m sure there’s someone out there who would love to take Scholastic Book Club to the next level! If this sounds like something you’d like to do, please message me on 0408060954. Happy reading! Jo.
