We had many guests who visited with our residents and enjoyed the luncheon buffet prepared by our chefs. Can you believe it’s already December? We have lots of events coming up this month. Our veterans will be presented with their portraits at the Veterans Tribute Ceremony and Portrait Gallery on Monday, December 7. The Kyle Turco Jazz Trio will be playing that day. Later that week, we’ll have the opportunity to do some early holiday shopping at our Annual Jingle Mingle Shopping Extravaganza on Saturday, December 12, from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Invite your families to enjoy this day of fun! Some of our residents are sharing their favorite holiday cookie recipes and our management staff will be baking the cookies for the Holiday Reception on Friday, December 18. Many of you hosted Christmas Open Houses in your homes and we want to give you a chance to share those cookie recipes! See Laurie Evans if you have one to share. Christmas Light Tours are favorite trips for us every year. Abu will be taking the bus for scenic drives throughout lighted neighborhoods in Nashville on Saturday, (December 19) and Sunday, (December 20) at 6:30pm. You can sign up with the concierge if you would like to go. If you have a birthday in December, Bill Sleeter will be providing entertainment during our December Birthday Luncheon on Saturday, the 19th from 11:15am-12:45pm in Josephine’s Kitchen. On Christmas Day, Laurie Evans will be leading holiday music from 11:30am - 12:30pm. This month brings us snowy days and colder weather, but let’s keep it warm inside with laughter and fun! Santa Facts to MakeYou Smile

He sees you when you’resleeping and knows when you’reawake. What else do you knowabout Santa Claus? Enjoy theseho-ho-holiday facts about thejolly old elf:

• Santa’s existence can betraced back to St. Nicholas, who was born around A.D.270. While serving as abishop in present-dayTurkey, he was known for hisgenerosity toward childrenand the poor, earning areputation for givinganonymous gifts.

• “Santa Claus” is a variationof the Dutch name for St.Nick, Sinterklaas.

• Much of the imagery weassociate with Santa—such ashis magical sleigh led byeight tiny reindeer—waspopularized from ClementClarke Moore’s 1822 poem“A Visit From St. Nicholas,”better known as “’Twas theNight Before Christmas.”

• In 1881, cartoonist ThomasNast created the first likenessof Santa as we know himtoday. Influenced by Moore’spoem, Nast drew Santa in abright red suit holding alarge sack filled with toys.

• The year 1890 saw the firstdepartment store Santa at adry goods store in Brockton,Mass.

• Soft drink companyCoca-Cola is credited withpopularizing the modern-dayimage of Santa, thanks to a1931 advertising campaignusing illustrations by artistHaddon Sundblom.

• Every Christmas Eve, theNorth American AerospaceDefense Command—anagency that defendsCanadian and Americanairspace—tracks Santa’ssleigh across the globe.

• Due to the different timezones, Santa Claus actuallyhas 31 hours to deliverpresents to childrenworldwide.

A Little Bit HelpsYou might be surprised by how

little effort it can take to improveyour health. If you don’t exerciseat all, try fitting in two 20-minuteexercise classes or workouts in ourfitness center each week. OurPaxxon and Belmont Village staffoffer various fitness opportunitiesdaily. Recent research found thatworkers who did that minimalamount of exercise had fewer sickdays than those who didn’texercise at all.

Put Dry Skin to RestThe dry air from indoor heating

systems can cause itchy skin andchapped lips. Tend to both bykeeping a bottle of body lotionand a tube of lip balm on yournightstand and apply them beforebedtime. Your skin and lips willsoak up the moisture whileyou sleep.
