Junior Black Belt Curriculum
World Hankimuye Federation
Standard time from one belt to the other is 3 to 6 months. It depends on the age of the students and training frequency. With a training frequency of once or twice a week the time will be closer to six months. Older students (those who start at the age of eleven or later) could probably skip the striped belts and test only for the single color belts.
White/yellow belt Just as important as learning the techniques is getting acquainted to the rules of the gym and the structure of class. Students should learn how to put on their uniform properly, tie their belt and know how to bow.
Basics Natural stance Feet are shoulder width apart. The students assumes this stance before class. Also teach the student how to sit correctly and how to bow/greet correctly at the beginning and end of class. This stance, with hands on the back, is assumed when the instructors stands in front of the class and is teaching to the class. When the instructor explains and demonstrates something in the middle of the group the students drop to one knee.
Defensive stance The stance is called defensive stance because our guard is up. Feet are in one line, arms forward. The index finger of the rear hand touched the elbow of the front arm. From this position we execute most of our kicks and punches.
Jeonhwanbeop Hankido’s basic circle steps.
Falling Back fall Teach the back fall from a sitting and squatting position. You can already introduce some of the other falling techniques (side fall, front fall and front roll) to the students as well. Important: your head does not touch the floor when doing falling techniques, ever.
